Abstract

This headrest is essentially characterised in that the electrical motors for controlling the height 17 and inclination 30, and the position transmission trains 22 to 25, 32 and 33 associated with these respectively, are housed in a box 2 which in turn is mounted inside the headrest 1. The electrical connections to these motors lead to a connector 28 for plugging into a connection socket 10 attached permanently to the top portion of the seat backrest 3. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to an electric headrest, in particular for vehicle seats, comprising removable fixing means, of the type with sliding pins of standard spacing, allowing its mounting to the upper part of the back of a seat, and associated with at least a first electric motor connected on the one hand mechanically to a transmission chain for positioning in height of a cushion-carrying case and on the other hand, by an electrical connection, to control members connected to a source of power supply and associated with said seat, within reach of its occupant, said first electric motor and the height positioning transmission chain associated therewith being housed inside said housing.

Such a headrest may have only one electric motor, for example for controlling its height position; it may however also include a second motor, for controlling its inclination, by pivoting about a horizontal axis. By "motor" is also meant, in principle, a motor potentiometer assembly, the axis of which is coupled to the motor shaft so that the voltage available on its cursor provides a memory of the positioning in height or in inclination.

L'option "véhicules avec ou sans appuie-tête électrique" se transforme en effet en option "véhicules avec ou sans dossier de siège équipé spécialement" (pour une commande électrique du positionnement de l'appuie-tête).Head rests of this type are already known (DE-A-3 805 957), the engine and associated members of which (mechanical transmission and the like) are housed in the seat backrest, the head restraint itself consisting only of a cushion, provided with its two pins for fitting on the backrest. The latter is therefore heavily equipped, which systematically increases the price of vehicles and makes it more difficult to establish a system of options. The option "vehicles with or without electric headrest" becomes indeed option "vehicles with or without seat back specially equipped "(for electrical control of the positioning of the head restraint).

Document DE-A-3,519,351 discloses an electric headrest containing a motor capable of driving it to modify its height. However, the shaft of this motor extends horizontally in the headrest, which greatly increases its overall width inside the latter and requires the adoption of a bevel gear in the kinematic chain which allows the adjustment of the headrest in height.

The object of the present invention is to remedy this type of drawbacks and for this purpose, a headrest of the general type defined at the start will, in accordance with the present invention, be essentially characterized in that said positioning transmission chain comprises a screw-nut system, said first electric motor being supported by a support base slidingly mounted on two guide rods integral with said pins, the shaft of said first motor extending vertically, and in that said electric connection ends in a connector suitable for being connected to a connection base permanently fixed to said upper part of the file, the latter containing only the part of said electrical connection which extends between said base and said control members.

Thus, contrary to what is encountered in the prior art mentioned above, it is now the headrest which comprises the maximum of organs, namely the essential organs, and the seat backrest the minimum, namely only the essential electrical connections between the connection base and the control elements. This produces a virtually autonomous, integrated headrest, which alone constitutes an optional module. It is even possible, thanks to the invention, to envisage mounting on all vehicles seats the back of which is pre-equipped with these connection bases and electrical connections, their price then being only slightly increased compared to that of ordinary seats. Such files will also allow, at the customer's choice, to mount there either a conventional headrest, with manual adjustments, or a headrest according to the invention, with electrical adjustments.

This headrest may also include, beneath and integrally with said support base, a housing for a second electric motor, of horizontal axis, mechanically connected to said guide rods, which are respectively articulated on said pins along a virtual horizontal axis. , for controlling the inclination of these rods relative to said pins.

Advantageously also, the positioning transmission chain between said second electric motor and said rods is of the gear type, and is arranged to pivot said housing and its contents, with respect to said pins.

Other details and advantages of a headrest according to the invention will appear on reading the description which will be given below by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the single figure of the drawing below. -Annexed, which is an overview of this headrest, in front section through the axis of the guide rods and pins.

In this figure, the cushions of the headrest have been referenced 1 and the box which supports them at 2. This headrest can be fitted on the upper part of a seat back 3, for example of a motor vehicle, using two conventional pins 4, of standard spacing, constituting at the same time, for the headrest, a rigid support structure and a reference for its positioning in height and in inclination. These pins 4 are engaged in fixed sockets of the backrest, referenced at 5 and into which are snapped smaller sockets 6, molded with a finishing plate 7, which encloses the covering fabric of the seat 3 between it and the sides of a profiled plate 11, constituting a housing. This plate 7 comprises a closing hatch 8 movable around an axis 9 and allowing access to a connection base 10 contained in said housing 11.

Thus, to make a headrest according to the invention operational, it suffices to open the hatch 8, to connect to said connection base 10 a connector 28 connected by internal wiring 29 to the electrical members located inside the headrest, close this hatch and then normally mount the headrest at the top of the backrest, thanks to its pins 4, which are snapped onto the plate 7 (see height preset notches 14).

The seat back itself will only have to contain wiring (not shown) to establish the electrical connection between the connection base 10 and the tilt and height control members of the headrest, which will of course be placed within easy reach of the seat occupant (for example on one side of the seat). It should be noted that this interior wiring of the backrest passes through an opening 12 of the plate 11, while the wiring 29 leaving from the aforementioned connector 28 to go to the internal motors will pass through an opening 13 formed at the end of the hatch 8 .

On the pins 4 are respectively articulated guide rods 15, this around pivots referenced at 16.

The first electric motor, referenced 17, and used for raising and lowering the headrest, is, as well as the associated potentiometer 18, mounted on a support base 19 secured to the housing 2 and able to slide thanks to sleeves 20 on the aforementioned guide rods 15. These rods are connected at their upper part by a spacer caliper 21 in which is centrally wedged a nut 22 receiving an operating screw 23. At the lower end of this screw, which is wedged axially with respect to the support base 19, is wedged in rotation a pinion 24 engaged on the one hand with a pinion 25 wedged on the output shaft of the motor 17 and on the other hand with a pinion 26 wedged on the axis of the potentiometer 18.

Thus it is understood that when the rotation of the motor 17 is controlled, in one direction or the other, from the aforementioned control members, the rotation of the screw 23 in the fixed nut 22 causes the support base 19 and the housing 2 which it is integral with. When the desired position is reached, the cursor of potentiometer 18 is at a voltage representative of this position and which can be stored; this will allow a given seat occupant to immediately find the position that best suits them if the setting has been changed by another person in the meantime.

It is understood that the motor 17 and the potentiometer 18 go up and down at the same time as their support base 19. When the base approaches its highest position, the motor and the potentiometer pass between the arms of the stirrup fixed 21, sufficiently spaced from each other for this purpose.

To rotate the guide rods 15, and therefore the headrest, relative to the pins 4, a second electric motor 30 is used, with a horizontal axis, disposed in a housing 31 located below the base of support 19; the motor body is fixed in rotation relative to this housing 31 and therefore relative to the base 19 and to the housing 2 of the headrest. On the output shaft of this second motor is fixed a planetary pinion 32 engaged with a fixed pinion 33, wedged on the corresponding fixed pivot 16.

Thus, when the rotation of this second motor 30 is controlled, in one direction or the other from the control members mentioned above (comprising on-off switches, reversers of the direction of rotation of the motors, etc.), the motor and its housing 31 pivot in the corresponding direction, around the axis of the pivots 16, which makes it possible to give the headrest the desired inclination. This second motor 30 is also associated with a potentiometer, referenced 34, which has the same storage role as the previous one.

Il est à noter enfin que des rondelles de friction telles que 35 sont montées sur les pivots 16, entre les flasques correspondants, pour permettre une légère rotation de l'appuie-tête en cas de choc et éviter une détérioration des pignons en prise 32 et 33.Finally, it should be noted that friction washers such as 35 are mounted on the pivots 16, between the corresponding flanges, to allow a slight rotation of the headrest in the event of an impact and to avoid deterioration of the pinions in engagement 32 and 33.

A headrest according to the invention has the advantage of being completely interchangeable with conventional, non-motorized headrests, this thanks to the standard spacing of its pins 4 and to its particularly small footprint, quite comparable to that of conventional headrests. It incorporates all of the active components necessary for its operation, the seat only having to receive wiring and the control components. This considerably facilitates the interchangeability of the headrest.

Dans ce cas, le mécanisme de réglage de l'inclinaison resterait totalement masqué par le carter du logement 31, en lieu et place du moteur 30 et de son potentiomètre 34.Although the embodiment of a headrest according to the invention has been described with a double electric control, it is understood that the invention would still retain its interest in the case where only the height control would be motorized, the manual tilt control remaining. In this case, the tilt adjustment mechanism would remain completely hidden by the housing of the housing 31, in place of the motor 30 and its potentiometer 34.
