Abstract

A method for the cleaning of textiles, especially of outer garments, with a prewashing bath, a main washing bath and a rinsing bath in a drum rotating in a drum housing and having liquid passages in the drum casing, the drum having alternately running times and standstill intervals, is characterised in that the standstill intervals amount to 20 to 80 seconds and between the standstill intervals the drum executes respectively 2 to 5 revolutions, in that the rotational speed of the drum generates a centrifugal force of 0.8 to 0.9 G and in that the drum used has an inside diameter of 60 to 120 cm.

Description

Certain textiles, such as outerwear in particular, are usually subjected to dry cleaning with the help of perchlorethylene. However, since the use of perchlorethylene has been suspected to be carcinogenic, the regulations have recently been tightened considerably. In addition, it is difficult to remove completely from the fiber during the post-treatment of the clothes in the cleaning.

From EP-PS 0 241 567 a method for washing or cleaning laundry items made of wool is known, in which the laundry items are washed in a washing drum and then rinsed, the washing sequence with a single forward rotation through an angle of 90 to 320 ° and a subsequent single reverse rotation by the same angle. However, it has been found that this process does not provide a sufficient cleaning effect when cleaning outer garments and also produces undesirable shrinking effects.

The object underlying the invention was therefore to find an alternative for dry cleaning with perchlorethylene, according to which, in particular, outer clothing can be cleaned without any significant shrinkage.

The method according to the invention for cleaning textiles, in particular outer garments, with a prewash bath, a main wash bath and a rinsing bath in a drum rotating in a drum housing with liquid passages in the drum jacket, the drum alternatingly having run times and stand pauses, is characterized in that the stand breaks 20 to 80 seconds and the drum makes two to five revolutions between the breaks, that the rotational speeds of the drum generate a centrifugal force of 0.8 to 0.9 G and a drum is used whose inner diameter is 60 to 120 cm.

The process according to the invention works with aqueous washing liquors and completely avoids the use of organic solvents, such as perchlorethylene. Surprisingly, if the process conditions described are observed, it is also possible to clean outer garments with such an aqueous washing liquor without the same shrinking. So far it has been unusual to clean outer garments with aqueous washing liquors, so that the process according to the invention overcomes an existing technical prejudice.

If the stand breaks are shorter than 20 seconds, the laundry is deformed and the tendency to matting is too great. With less intensity of mechanical action, i. H. with a smaller drum diameter and lower centrifugal acceleration, the washing effect is not sufficient.

The rhythm of breaks and revolutions described causes the textiles in the rotating drum to be taken up and from there to fall to the bottom of the drum. A certain drop height and thus a certain drum diameter is required for this. The inside diameter of the drum is preferably 70 to 100 cm, particularly 80 to 90 cm. Furthermore, it is preferred that the rotational speed of the drum have the centrifugal force of 0.8 to 0.9 G each, i.e.. H. generated within each sequence of pauses and revolutions, within the first revolution.

A preferred further development of the method also consists in the fact that the liquid level is essentially outside the drum in the drum housing and that the bath liquid is pumped from the bottom of the drum to its upper region and is applied there to the drum content. Pumping the bath liquid creates a kind of sprinkling of the textiles to be treated in the drum. Maintaining the liquid level essentially outside the drum in the drum housing is known in some washing machines as a so-called "no dip". This measure is advantageous in conjunction with the other procedural measures mentioned, since when the textiles to be treated are immersed in the wash liquor, less washing action and higher matting are achieved. The aforementioned drum diameter means that the distance from the surface of the drum sump to the location of the bath liquid application is kept in the range from 60 to 120 cm.

The treatment times (running times + stand breaks) in the prewash bath, main wash bath and rinsing bath are each 5 to 15 minutes. With shorter treatment times, the washing effect is reduced, longer treatment times have no additional positive effect. It is particularly expedient if the treatment time in the prewash and rinse baths is 5 to 7 min and in the main wash bath 8 to 12 min. The duration of the stand breaks is expediently 30 to 60 seconds. The number of revolutions between the stand breaks is expediently 2 to 3.

It is advisable to work at a temperature of 30 ° C to 35 ° C in the washing baths. Lower temperatures impair the cleaning effect. Higher temperatures create the risk of increased matting or shrinkage.

If necessary, the pumped bath liquid is introduced before being introduced into the drum and thus before being placed on the drum stop through a lint filter to continuously remove the lint accumulating in the sump of the drum.

It is not advisable to use too little bath liquid in the washing liquors, as this would impair the washing effect. Conveniently, however, only so much bath liquid is used for each bath in the process according to the invention that it soaks the textiles contained in the drum and, moreover, if it is pumped around, a coherent, i.e. H. results in free pumping current in the pumping line from air bubble interruptions. For each kilogram of textiles to be treated in the drum, 2.5 to 5 liters of bath liquid are advantageously used per bath. The loading of the drum is advantageously such that 5 to 25, preferably 7 to 14 kg of textiles (as a dry weight) are introduced per batch.

The process according to the invention shows a strongly superior washing action with comparable to less felt shrinkage than other processes which work with aqueous washing liquors and works completely without organic solvents, such as perchlorethylene. Compared to other washing processes with aqueous washing liquors, it can lead to a significant saving in water consumption.
