Abstract

During the continuous melting, heterogeneous solid or viscous residues are first heated to a preheating temperature (T1) in a preheating and fractionation stage (4), volatile components being expelled and being fed as a waste gas (8) for further treatment, then heated (T2) at least to the flow temperature in a melting stage (10) and thereafter brought to an inert solid final state by cooling. A small melt volume and a short residence time (t2) in the melting stage (10) are thus achieved. This ensures better conversion of the residues into an inert state and optimally controllable fractionation of all material components. <IMAGE>
