- An object of the present invention is to provide a power supply device for the heating device of a heated display according to the type mentioned at the outset, which significantly reduces the power loss at low cost and small size.
- the heating current reduced by a factor of 8 for a clocked 24 V DC voltage results in a capacitor of only approx. 0.18 MF instead of 1.5 MF for a ballast or a power loss of only approx. 2 for the ohmic resistor , 5 W instead of approx. 20 W.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a power supply device for the heating device of a heated display, in particular a fluorescent display, according to the preamble of claim 1.
The directly heated cathodes of fluorescent displays or fluorescent displays require a typical heating voltage of approx. 3 volts with a current of 70 to 120 mA depending on the number of filaments. In a power supply device known from US-A-41 58 794 of the type mentioned at the outset, the heating voltage is generated by clocking a further voltage source with a higher voltage, but the cathode is heated at times when there is no display voltage. In addition to the If two separate voltage sources are required, continuous cathode heating is not possible.
Furthermore, from US-A-42 09 729 a power supply device is known in which a primary voltage is multiplied by a trippler to a display voltage and is used as a heating voltage by clocking, which, however, is in turn switched on as an alternative to the display voltage. In addition to the complexity in terms of circuitry, continuous heating and cathode ray display are also not possible here.
In a display power supply device that the applicant has used in time switches sold under the article name EL 162, this current is made available directly from the 220 V network, with ohmic resistors being connected in series as ballast elements for current limitation.
A disadvantage of such a heating current source, in addition to the size and price of these ballasts, is the heating thereof and the power loss generated as a result. Capacitors of 1.5 MF or 20 W resistors are usually used for this. Another possibility known from US-A-4488089 is to provide a separate power supply for the low heating voltage, which in turn has disadvantages in terms of size and cost.
An object of the present invention is to provide a power supply device for the heating device of a heated display according to the type mentioned at the outset, which significantly reduces the power loss at low cost and small size.
This object is achieved by the features of claim 1.
- 1. Leistung N bei 3-Volt-Beheizung: N = Uh²/R.
- 2. Leistung bei getakteter Heizung: N = T . Ub²/R
- 1. Power N with 3-volt heating: N = Uh² / R.
- 2. Power with clocked heating: N = T. Ub² / R
The heating current reduced by a factor of 8 for a clocked 24 V DC voltage results in a capacitor of only approx. 0.18 MF instead of 1.5 MF for a ballast or a power loss of only approx. 2 for the ohmic resistor , 5 W instead of approx. 20 W.
The measures listed in the subclaims are advantageous further developments and improvements the power supply device specified in claim 1 possible.
The clock device expediently has a clock frequency generator, the output signals of which have a pulse duty factor corresponding to the required heating power with regard to the voltage of the display control pulses. This enables simple adaptation to the required heating current when the display voltage is available.
The heating device can be acted upon directly by the output signals of the clock frequency generator if its output power is sufficient; on the other hand, the control input of a semiconductor switch can also be acted upon by the output signals of the clock generator, the switching path of the semiconductor switch being connected in series to the heating device and to the DC voltage source supplying the voltage for the display control pulses is switched. A clock generator with a very low output power can also be used here.
In the simplest case, the clock frequency generator can be an astable multivibrator, which can be designed as a separate component or can be contained in an electronic control unit for the display. This electronic control unit can of course also be a other type of clock frequency generator included.
The display control pulses of the control unit for the display, which are present anyway, can also be used to control the semiconductor switch and are preferably applied to the control input of the semiconductor switch via a differentiating element. In this case, a separate output of the control unit for the heating can be omitted, and the heating control pulses are derived from the display control pulses which are present anyway, the required heating output being able to be set via the differentiating element. A microprocessor which contains the clock frequency generator also proves to be particularly advantageous. The required clock frequency and the required duty cycle are generated under program control.
The control unit containing the clock frequency generator can of course also be designed as a customer-specific, integrated circuit. Here, the power of the clock frequency generator contained can be designed so high that the heating device can be acted upon directly by a corresponding output.

- Fig. 1
- 1 shows a first exemplary embodiment with a separate clock frequency generator which controls a semiconductor switch located in series with the heating device,
- Fig. 2
- a second, similar embodiment in which the control pulses for the semiconductor switch are derived from display control pulses for the display,
- Fig. 3
- a third, similar embodiment in which the control pulses for the semiconductor switch are generated in a microprocessor, and
- Fig. 4
- a fourth embodiment in which direct control pulses for the heating device are generated in a customer-specific, integrated circuit.
In the first exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, display control pulses for a display 10 (D) are generated in a microprocessor 11 (»P) and fed to the
The DC voltage present at the
The
Since the
The second exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 2 has a similar structure. The same or equivalent components are provided with the same reference numerals and are not described again. In contrast to the first exemplary embodiment, the display control pulses of the
The third exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 3 again corresponds in part to the previous exemplary embodiments, so that the same or equivalent components are again provided with the same reference numerals and are not described again. In this exemplary embodiment, the clocked control voltage is generated internally in the
In the fourth exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the
It is of course also possible to vary the individual elements of the four exemplary embodiments with one another. For example, the
