Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a wristwatch intended to receive radio messages.
  • a timepiece comprising an antenna capable of picking up an electromagnetic field carrying radio messages has already been described in document EP-A-0 339 482 (US-A-4 884 252) by the same applicant.
  • the antenna entirely confined in the space delimited by the case, is constituted by a coil comprising at least one turn, the axis of this coil being arranged parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bracelet .
  • This document also indicates a practical construction to implement the general concept stated, construction which proved to be too simplified during the development work undertaken on the watch in question, so that it was necessary to 'improve said construction.
  • Figure 1 is a summary view of the wristwatch according to the invention. It includes means for analog time display with an hour hand 1 and a minute hand 2, these hands rotating on a dial 3.
  • the middle part 4 of the watch as well as the strands 5 and 6 of a bracelet attached to it.
  • a window 7 pierced in the dial 3 appears a display cell 8 of the broadcast messages which is in digital form and which can consist, for example, of a telephone number to call back.
  • the watch is completed by a crown 9 for setting the time of the time display, by a first button 10 enabling the radio part of the watch to be switched on or off and by a second button 11 to prevent the activation of the buzzer installed in the watch.
  • Figure 1 shows the receiving antenna of the watch which is in the form of four wires 23 constituting the coil of the antenna whose axis is arranged parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bracelet. This direction is preferred to others, because it is it which supplies the terminals with the highest amplitude signal to the coil, as mentioned above in connection with document EP-A-0 339 482.
  • FIGS 2 to 5 are sections made in the watch of Figure 1 which explain its organization in detail.
  • the watch of the invention comprises three important basic elements, namely a movement 12, a middle part 4 and a back 44.
  • FIGS 2 and 3 show details of the movement of the watch.
  • the movement 12 has a plate 13 which serves as a support for various elements which will be reviewed now.
  • the plate 13 is first subject to means for displaying the time which consist, in the figure taken as an example, of a mechanism 14 driving the hour hands 1 and minutes 2.
  • This mechanism can be driven itself and in a known manner by a stepping motor (not shown).
  • the invention is not limited to an analog time display, this display can also be digital.
  • the time display means are controlled by a first energy source 15 consisting of a battery placed in a housing of the plate 13.
  • FIG. 2 shows that the plate also carries a display cell 16 intended to make appear broadcast messages.
  • the time display hands pivot above a dial 3, itself provided with a window 7 revealing the indications displayed by the cell 16.
  • the dial 3 rests on the plate 13.
  • the time display hands 1 and 2 as well as the display cell 16 are covered by a first glass 21 which rests on the periphery of the dial 3.
  • This glass carries transverse grooves 22 intended to receive the wires 23 of the antenna as we will see below.
  • the movement 12 also includes electronic circuits for controlling the displays mentioned above.
  • these electronic circuits comprise two distinct modules, that is to say a first module 17 and a second module 18.
  • the first module 17, called radio frequency (RF) module receives the signal received by the antenna which will be described below, amplifies this signal and demodulates it.
  • the second module 18, called the digital module receives the signal from the first module to control the display cell 16 via a zebra connector 60, for example.
  • a zebra connector 60 for example.
  • the digital module 18 still carries the electronic elements necessary to excite the stepping motor driving the mechanism 14, in particular a quartz, a frequency divider and a driver. These various elements are symbolized by rectangles bearing the references 19 and 20.
  • FIG. 2 finally shows a cover 24 secured under the plate 13 and this according to a construction which appears in Figure 3.
  • This cover pursues a double purpose, that of first serving as housing 27 for a second source of energy or battery 25 ( Figure 5) and finally to serve as a guide for the wires 23 of the antenna.
  • FIG. 2 shows that the underside of the cover 24 is also provided with grooves 26 in which the wires 23 of the antenna rest.
  • the battery 15 intended to supply the time display mechanism is electrically connected to the digital module 18 by connections 28 and 29.
  • the battery 25, intended to supply the RF and digital modules is connected to the RF module by connections 30 and 31.
  • FIG. 3 is a section through movement 12 of the wristwatch, the cutting planes being chosen so that the manner of fixing the various elements presented in FIG. 2 is made apparent.
  • FIG. 3 shows the plate 13, the digital module 18, the RF module 17 and the cover 24.
  • the digital module 18 is fixed to the plate 13 by means of screws 32, only one of which is shown in the drawing.
  • the RF module 17 is mounted on the digital module by means of a threaded rod 33 driven into the plate 13 and a nut 34, a spacer 35 being disposed between the two modules to maintain a determined spacing.
  • the cover 24 is then placed, which is fixed to the plate 13, on the one hand by the rod 33 and a nut 36 and on the other hand by two other rod 37 each receiving a nut 38, a spacer 39 being disposed between the modules 17 and 18, only one of the rods 37 being shown in the drawing.
  • We have finished mounting the movement 12 by placing on its upper part, the dial 3, the hands 1 and 2 and the first crystal 21.
  • the spacers 35 and 39 can serve as electrical conductors between the two modules if these spacers are metallic.
  • the compact movement 12 also carries a buzzer which will be described in connection with FIG. 5.
  • the first energy source or battery 15 which has been shown in FIG. 2 is assembled. This battery only feeds the part displaying the time and therefore has a long service life (2 to 3 years). To replace it, it will however be necessary to remove the movement 12 from the middle part and from the base in which it is mounted.
  • FIG. 4 shows that the movement 12, of which only a few essential elements have been reproduced here, is subject to a middle part 4 surmounted by a second crystal 41.
  • the movement is fixed to the middle part by means of two screws. attachment 42 of which only one is shown in the drawing.
  • the crystal 41 rests on a peripheral groove 43 formed in the middle part where it can be secured by ultrasound, which ensures a tight connection between the two elements in question.
  • FIG. 5 shows the watch completely assembled.
  • the base 44 is fixed to the middle part 4 by means of six screws 45, only one of which has been shown in the drawing. Each screw is screwed into a threaded insert 46 and forced into the middle part.
  • FIG. 5 also shows that an opening 47 is made laterally in the bottom 44, opening giving access to the second energy source or battery 25 to allow its replacement.
  • the battery 25 can be easily replaced by the wearer of the shows, because the lifespan of such a battery supplying all radiofrequency and digital circuits, which consumes a lot of energy, is relatively short, that is to say three to four months, given the relatively modest dimensions of this battery 25.
  • This battery does not can not be exchanged by a hatch located under the bottom because of the turns 23 forming the antenna, the only possibility of access is that of a lateral opening situated perpendicular to an axis parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bracelet.
  • FIG. 5 shows that this stack is housed in a drawer 48 sliding in the cover 24, the sealing of the drawer being ensured by a seal 49 housed in a groove 50 and bearing against the bottom 44.
  • the drawer can be attached by its outer portion 51 to one of the two strands that the bracelet comprises, which facilitates the extraction of the battery 25.
  • fixing means for example by retractable pins (not shown), are used to secure the drawer 47 with the bottom 44.
  • FIG. 5 shows that the watch is made watertight by a seal 52 disposed between the middle part 4 and the base 44 and housed in a groove 53 formed in the bottom.
  • the section plane of the right part of FIG. 5 has been chosen to allow the representation of an audible frequency transducer which consists of a membrane 54 on which a piezoelectric transducer 55 is stuck.
  • channels are referenced 56 and 57 respectively in the plate and in the middle.
  • the transducer 55 (buzzer) alerts the wearer of the watch that a message has arrived.
