Description
The invention relates to a cartridge with a metal ignition tube filled with ignition agent and protruding from the bottom of the cartridge sleeve following the primer to the middle third of the length of the combustion chamber into the cartridge sleeve.
In conventional cartridges without an ignition tube, the propellant gradually burns through the percussion cap from the bottom of the cartridge case to the projectile, which has the disadvantage that the combustion gases initially formed compress the propellant charge layers above them and thus make their combustion more difficult, so that they are more difficult to burn off compressed propellant charge ejected with the projectile and therefore the full effectiveness of the propellant charge is not exploited.
In order to remedy this problem, z. B. according to US Pat. No. 4,572,078, the ignition tube filled with ignition agent and protruding into the cartridge case, but the jacket of the metal ignition tube has holes arranged one behind the other, so that the propellant charge surrounding the ignition tube only comes back from the base of the case to the floor and is not ignited suddenly, which results in an improvement in the conditions, but not a satisfactory solution.
From the same US Pat. No. 4,572,078, it is also known to dispense with the ignition tube and the cartridge case with a thin layer of ignition compound reaching from the primer to be lined, which not only creates manufacturing difficulties, but also does not allow a really sudden ignition of the entire propellant charge.
Finally, it is known (DE-AS 1 296 998) to provide a combustible tubular jacket with a powdered primer charge instead of the metallic ignition tube and to arrange a coaxial pyrophoric element in this jacket. However, since the tubular jacket only extends into the middle third of the cartridge case, the propellant charge continues to burn from the case bottom to the projectile.
The object of the invention is therefore to remedy this deficiency and to create a cartridge of the type described at the outset, in which the largest possible burning or burning of the propellant charge is ensured with comparatively simple means.
The invention solves the problem in that in the propellant charge of the cartridge case in the extension of the non-perforated ignition tube a channel reaching up to close to the projectile is recessed and the ignition agent filling of the ignition tube ends at a distance from the ignition tube outlet.
Due to the recessed channel in the propellant charge, the ignition means in the ignition tube can form a flash of flame, which can reach the projectile unhindered from the latter and practically simultaneously ignites the entire propellant surrounding the channel. Since the ignition tube is not perforated, the propellant immediately surrounding the ignition tube is not ignited immediately, but on the one hand this prevents a compressing gas pressure on the propellant layers above it and on the other hand does not accept any disadvantage because this propellant burns inside the cartridge case and not with it Projectile ejected from the sleeve becomes. The distance between the end of the priming agent filling and the ignition tube outlet ensures the complete formation of the pilot or pilot flame in the channel.
It is particularly expedient if, according to the invention, the channel is formed by a tube, preferably made of combustible material, which is plugged onto the ignition tube and closed on the projectile side. This results in simple manufacture of the cartridge, since the powder forming the propellant charge only needs to be filled into the cartridge case when the tube is attached and the front tube closure prevents the propellant powder from getting into the tube. In addition, the channel formed is stabilized by the tube.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the parts of a cartridge essential to the invention in partial section.
Das Zündmittel 5 im Zündrohr 6 endet mit Abstand vom Zündrohrausgang 10.The cartridge consists of a
To simplify production, a
