Description

The present invention relates to containers for containing or storing a liquid gas.

By liquid gas is meant any body having in its storage conditions (in particular pressure, temperature) two phases, namely liquid and gas, normally separated by an interface. It may be a liquefied gas, that is to say a body for which the liquid phase is in equilibrium with its vapor phase, the gas pressure inside the container then being equal to the pressure vapor from said body; in the first rank of liquefied gases are liquefied petroleum gases (or LPG), for example butane, by reference to which the present invention will be explained. It may also be a dissolved gas, that is to say a body whose gaseous phase is in equilibrium with a phase dissolved in an appropriate solvent, the latter constituting the liquid phase which has been discussed. previously. By body, it is necessary to understand in a general way, as well a pure body as a mixture of pure bodies; thus the so-called commercial butane appears to be a mixture of butane and other hydrocarbons, for example butene.

With regard to the storage conditions, the liquid gas contained in the container may or may not be under pressure, the internal pressure within the container being less, greater than or equal to the ambient or external pressure, for example atmospheric. Likewise, the temperature of the liquid gas may or may not be lower than or equal to the ambient temperature; the containers according to the invention can be cryogenic storage, that is to say intended to store liquefied gases at very low temperature, for example liquid nitrogen.

  • 1) ils peuvent être fixes ou mobiles, portables ou non, de petit ou grand volume ;
  • 2) s'agissant des récipients portables, ils peuvent être rechargeables, et donc réutilisables, ou jetables, et donc à usage unique ;
  • 3) s'agissant des récipients jetables, l'invention concerne aussi bien des récipients perforables, que la pratique désigne sous le nom de "cartouches", que des récipients présentant un dispositif de prélèvement particulier en phase gazeuse, par exemple un robinet, une valve ou un clapet ;
  • 4) s'agissant des récipients jetables avec valve, l'invention, concerne en particulier les générateurs d'aérosol, pour lesquels le gaz liquide sert d'agent propulseur d'un autre corps divisé, solide ou liquide, contenu ou non dans le même récipient ;
The containers envisaged by the present invention can take different forms, in particular depending on their use:
  • 1) they can be fixed or mobile, portable or not, small or large volume;
  • 2) with regard to portable containers, they can be refillable, and therefore reusable, or disposable, and therefore for single use;
  • 3) with regard to disposable containers, the invention relates both to perforable containers, which practice designates by the name of "cartridges", as containers having a particular sampling device in the gas phase, for example a tap, a valve or valve;
  • 4) with regard to disposable containers with valve, the invention relates in particular to aerosol dispensers, for which the liquid gas serves as a propellant for another divided body, solid or liquid, whether or not contained in the same container;
  • 5) finally, the containers envisaged by the invention may or may not be integrated or incorporated in the apparatus for use, consuming in one way or another the liquid gas in gaseous form; thus, for a device with a burner supplied with the gaseous phase of a liquefied petroleum gas, a container according to the invention can be a tank integrated in the device, refillable with commercial butane for example, taken from a cartridge.

The present invention relates more particularly to containers as defined above, capable of delivering in the gas phase, and only in this form, the liquid gas which they contain.

In accordance with patent EP-A-0 202 172, a container of the aforementioned type has been described comprising:
  • a metal body, for example made of spun aluminum, extending along at least one dimension called height, and comprising a monobloc bottom; this body is closed by an upper wall, consisting of a closure element or cup attached to the aforementioned body

  • a device or valve for withdrawing gas in the gas phase, through the closure element or upper wall, comprising an inlet for the gas phase, and an outlet with valve towards the outside of the cartridge
  • a feed tube arranged in the recess of the absorbent material pad, extending along the height, comprising a free end situated in said recess, between the sampling device and the bottom of the body, and communicating by its other end with the inlet of the sampling device, and in a sealed manner with respect to the interior of said recess
  • a one-piece chimney, obtained for example by molding a plastic material, arranged in the recess of the absorbent material pad, forming an internal facing permeable to gas, and comprising a plurality of transverse passages or perforations, distributed both according to the height and according to the perimeter of the chimney.

Such a material therefore has a significant proportion of voids. It is a discrete material, in the sense of a material having unitary elements or particles, such as fibers or grains, gathered without physical integrity between said elements; it is for example a porous, fibrous material, or having any other shape, consistency, or texture, as long as it meets the preceding general definition, and this whatever the nature of the material used, natural, mineral, organic, synthetic, etc ...

As absorbent material, vegetable fibrous materials may be suitable in practice, such as carded cotton, cotton waste, cellulose fibers, and among these, different kinds of paper pulp, called by practitioners of this industry, respectively pulp. mechanical, unbleached softwood kraft pulp, bleached leaf kraft pulp, bleached softwood bisulfite pulp, bleached softwood kraft pulp, bleached pulp, so-called fluff quality.

By "free end" of the supply tube, it is meant the part of the latter comprising one or more orifices for drawing off the liquid gas in gaseous form. This free end is placed at a distance from the wall of the chimney, for example in the center of the latter, to avoid any contact of the withdrawal orifice (or its border) directly with the absorbent material.

By sealing between the inlet (in the direction of flow of the withdrawn gas) of the withdrawal device, and the end of the supply tube opposite to the withdrawal orifice, is meant a sealing with respect to the liquid phase gas, possibly present inside the container in a free manner, for example in the recess of the absorbent material pad, that is to say outside the absorbent material.

These general definitions having been given to fix the framework and the scope of the present invention, it is necessary to return to the containers described in the document EP-A-0202172, to observe that these must be further improved, as regards certain characteristics construction techniques or operation.

The central problem of these containers lies in the relative freedom of the particles such as fibers of the absorbent material, which are liable to be entrained first by the liquid phase and then by the gaseous phase circulating in the container, during the removal of the gas. These particles are first of all capable of aggregating to form mobile and free "flocks" in the container; these flocks can be fixed between the edge of the withdrawal orifice of the supply tube, and the absorbent material, and thus constitute real wicks transporting the liquid phase towards the supply tube, which goes against the sampling sought only in the gas phase. These particles can then obstruct or even block different orifices of small cross-section on the passage of the gas phase, such as the valve of the sampling valve, but also different organs of the device of use consuming the gas phase, such as injectors. for example.

To obviate this circulation of the particles of the absorbent material, according to patent EP-A-0202172, a two-stage solution has been proposed and used, so to speak:
  • first, provision was made for the previously defined chimney made in a single piece of plastic material, comprising a multitude of transverse perforations, of relatively small unit cross section, making it possible to stop the particles or fibers of the absorbent material
  • then, the sampling device comprises a filter, for example made of compressed polyamide fibers, disposed between its inlet for the gas phase, connected to the supply tube, and the valve flap.

Such a chimney, necessarily made of plastic for industrial series production, turns out to be a delicate achievement. Indeed, it requires for its molding the implementation of a core and therefore a molding spindle. It is therefore a relatively complex part, and of a significant cost price.

The filter integrated into the sampling valve not only increases its cost, but also fixes the filling mode with liquid gas, for receptacles of the disposable cartridge type. Indeed, by the pressure drop which it opposes to the liquid phase, the filter prevents any filling by the valve. It is therefore necessary to fill these containers, by opening the body, before crimping the closure element or cup incorporating the valve. Such a filling method is more complex to implement, especially in terms of safety, when the liquid gas is a liquefied petroleum gas.

The object of the present invention is to remedy such drawbacks. More specifically, the invention relates to means integrated into a container as defined above, allowing effective trapping of particles or fibers of suspended matter, while simplifying the construction and therefore the production of said container.

Mainly, according to the invention, on the one hand, the transverse passages of the chimney consist of relatively large transverse windows, the passage section of which is of the same order of magnitude, or greater than the internal transverse section of the chimney, and on the other hand a circumscribed textile sheet and envelops the chimney, being supported by the latter.

The textile sheet is preferably a non-woven structure, in particular made of artificial or synthetic fibers, for example polypropylene or polyethylene.

The average diameter of the interstices of the textile sheet is chosen between a higher value, beyond which the particles of the absorbent material are liable to pass from the absorbent pad into the chimney, and a lower value, below which the sheet presents impermeability relative to the gas phase of the gas. Such values can be readily determined by routine testing.

The solution according to the invention provides the following determining advantages:
  • it allows to simplify and lighten the realization of the chimney
  • the textile sheet makes it possible to filter and retain, in a particularly efficient manner, the particles of absorbent material, to the point of being able to remove the filter normally provided in the sampling device or valve
  • the production of the chimney-textile tablecloth assembly is particularly simple to implement; just wrap the second one or more times on the first
  • the internal developed surface of the textile sheet increases the intrinsic evaporation surface of the absorbent material, which increases the evaporation capacity and therefore the flow rate of the containers according to the invention.

In total, we end up not only with a design container and simpler construction, but above all to a container that can be filled directly by the sampling device or valve. Such filling makes it possible in particular to expel from the valve any particles of absorbent material, after closing the cartridge.

According to one embodiment of the invention, in a manner known per se, the chimney has a flange at its upper end. In a new way, this flange is arranged in contact with the sampling device, or the upper wall of the body, thereby isolating the interior of the chimney from particles of the absorbent material, at the flange.

With the same concern, namely isolation of the chimney from particles of the absorbent material, the end of the chimney opposite the sampling device is closed by the textile sheet, for example a fold of said textile sheet.

The body 2 is made in one piece, by spinning or extruding an aluminum ingot. It has an upper opening 2b bordered by a peripheral bead 2c. The cup 3 forming the upper wall is crimped onto the bead 2c, a seal 14 being disposed between these two elements so as to ensure perfect sealing. The center of the cup 3 has a hollow boss 3b, open downwards, which retains the body 15 of the valve 5, by centripetal constriction below the head of the body 15. The tamper-evident cap 17 has an outer skirt 17a comprising a lower annular projection coming to engage elastically under the bead 2c of the body 2.

As already said, the valve 5 is of the aerosol type, and comprises, in addition to the body 15 ending in the inlet nozzle 5a, the valve 13 resiliently biased against the seal 16, and movable in the internal bore of the body 15.

The chimney 7 is produced in a simplified manner but in a single piece, made of plastic, and comprises a plurality of uprights 7a in a first direction, namely the height, distributed along the perimeter or circumference of this same chimney, and a plurality of crosspieces or ribs 7b, in a second direction, namely the aforementioned circumference, distributed along the height of the chimney 7. The intersection of the uprights 7a and sleepers 7b determines the transverse windows 7c. This chimney 7 includes an upper flange 7f, disposed in contact with the upper cup 3, at this level isolating the interior of the chimney 7 from particles of the absorbent material. At the opposite end 7e, namely at the lower end of the chimney 7 on the side of the bottom 2a, the opening 7g at this level is closed by the textile sheet 8, in the form of a fold 8a of the latter introduced into the opening 7g. The chimney also has on its outer periphery a plurality of lugs 7 for hooking the textile web, distributed both according to the height and according to the circumference of said chimney.

De manière générale, cette disposition permet de maintenir l'extrémité 6a à distance de la paroi de la cheminée 7, et partant de la matière absorbante du tampon 4.As shown in FIG. 2, in one piece with the chimney 7, an intermediate sleeve 9 is placed in the center of the chimney 7, the free end 6a of the supply tube being inserted and maintained inside the sleeve 9. In general, this arrangement makes it possible to keep the end 6a at a distance from the wall of the chimney 7, and starting from the absorbent material of the pad 4.

More specifically, the free end 6a is in sealed contact along its entire outer periphery, with the inner face of the sleeve 9, and the latter extends downwards beyond the end 6a, to be closed by a transverse bottom. 9a perforated. The intermediate sleeve 9, and / or the radial bridges II for fixing to the chimney, comprise lateral lights 12 ensuring the passage of the gas, not only on either side of the radial bridges but also on either side of the sleeve 9.

Thanks to this particular arrangement of the lights 12, combined with the perforated bottom 9a, a racking rack or filter "strainer" is formed, adjacent to the free end 6a of the supply tube. This arrangement also allows a double filtration of the particles likely to pass between the collar 7f and the cup 3, a first time through the part of the openings 12 located at the level of the radial bridges 11, and a second time through the cage. racking identified previously.

According to the technique described in document EP-A-0202172, the containers or cartridges just described are filled with an appropriate volume of gas in liquid form. The latter is contained in the available volume (useful volume of the container 1 minus the actual volume of the absorbent material of the tampon 4), and determines in the recess 4a a liquid-gas interface flush with or situated below the free end 6a of the feed tube 6, regardless of the position of the container in space.
