Abstract

A toe iron of a safety ski binding has a basic body (11) which is to be attached to the ski and at which a sole-holder (13), which holds an inserted ski boot from above and from the sides, is mounted so that it can be pivoted up about a transverse axle (12) arranged in the front end region and at the bottom. The sole-holder has two lateral jaws (17, 18) which can be swivelled out laterally about vertical axles (15, 16) located on both sides of the longitudinal mid-axis (14). A release spring (20), which is accommodated in a hollow space (19) of the sole-holder (13) and extends essentially in the direction of the longitudinal mid-axis (14), prestresses both the lateral jaws (17, 18) and the sole-holder (13) towards their ski boot holding position via a lifting and connecting link mechanism. Via two control levers (23, 24), mounted on the sole-holder (13) about a vertical axis (21, 22) in each case, and a common yoke member (25), the lateral jaws (17, 18) are charged by one end of the release spring (20) which is supported by the other end on the sole-holder (13). Additionally, after overcoming a clearance (26) within the scope of different sole thicknesses of the ski boot to be inserted, the release spring (20) acts via the yoke member (25) on a holding-down cam (27) which is displaceable in the direction of the longitudinal mid-axis (14), is mounted on the sole-holder (13) and interacts with a connecting link wall (28), rising obliquely from the rear to the front, on the basic body (11). <IMAGE>

Description

It is already known to carry out both the side and the height release in such a safety front jaw by means of a single release spring (DE-AS 26 37 870), but one end of the release spring is responsible for the height release, the other end is responsible for the side release . As a result, none of the ends of the release spring can be supported directly on the sole holder, making it difficult to change the spring preload of the release spring for the purpose of adjusting the release hardness. In addition, the sole holder of the known toe piece must be adjusted exactly to a specific ski boot sole, so that there is no undesirable change in the release behavior due to jamming of the ski boot sole.

The aim of the present invention is to provide a safety front jaw of a ski binding of the type mentioned, in which one end of the release spring is preferably adjustably supported directly on the sole holder, while the other end can act on both the side and the height release mechanism, whereby the correct lateral support of a set ski boot should not be impaired by different ski boot sole covers without special manually adjustable height adjustment means having to be provided on the sole holder.

To achieve this object, the features of the characterizing part of claim 1 are provided.

According to the invention, the release spring acts directly and without play on the control levers of the side jaws via the yoke member. However, the hold-down cam is only acted upon after the predetermined game has been overcome, so that ski boots with different sole thicknesses can be inserted into the binding within this game. The sole holder adjusts itself automatically in the height direction without the side holding force acting on the side jaws from the release spring being impaired.

Only when the predetermined play is exceeded during a height movement of the sole holder by sliding the hold-down cam along the inclined sliding track, is there a direct action on the hold-down cam by the release spring via the yoke member, so that from this moment on the safety binding is triggered normally.

So that the ski boot sole is held in the rest position of the binding with a predetermined clamping force regardless of its thickness by the sole holder, the auxiliary spring is preferably provided according to claim 2. The invention therefore differentiates between the clamping force for the ski boot sole, which is, for example, in the order of magnitude of 300 N, and the height-releasing force, which is, for example, 800 N.

The side jaws themselves preferably have the projections that hold down the ski boot sole. However, it would also be conceivable that the side jaws only clamp the ski boots laterally, while a special, fixed hold-down device is provided on the swing-up sole holder.

A particularly preferred structural embodiment is characterized by claim 3. It is particularly advantageous if there is also a small distance between the yoke member and the hold-down cam on the side opposite to the above-mentioned game, in such a way that if a ski boot is inserted into the binding, this may be the case. Gently pushing apart the two side jaws and advancing the yoke member does not yet result in the yoke member also touching the hold-down cam, so that it is still in firm contact with the slide track under the action of the auxiliary spring.

A particularly preferred embodiment for realizing the mentioned short distance is characterized by claim 4.

Advantageously, the yoke member is combined with a spring abutment pot to form a single, one-piece component, the rear end of the spring abutment pot simultaneously forming the abutment surface of the yoke member that acts on the hold-down cam from the front. This embodiment is characterized by claim 6.

A particularly advantageous structural implementation of the mounting of the hold-down cam is defined in claim 7. A structurally and spatially particularly expedient arrangement of the auxiliary spring, which, like the release spring, is preferably designed as a helical compression spring, can be found in claim 8.

Claim 9 indicates a preferred structural design of the control lever.

The embodiment according to claim 10 has the advantage that in the event of a side release, an upward force component is also exerted on the sole holder, so that jamming of the ski boot sole between the sole holder and the ski is counteracted when the side is released. Regardless of the other features of the invention, this embodiment is fundamentally advantageous in all safety ski bindings, where the side jaws which can be swung out laterally are arranged on a sole holder which can be swiveled up.

According to the drawing, the safety front jaw of a ski binding according to the invention has a base body 11 to be fastened to the ski, on which a sole holder 13 is attached so as to be pivotable about a transverse axis 12.

On both sides of the central longitudinal axis 14 are pivoted laterally on the sole holder 13 about vertical axes 15, 16 side jaws 17, 18. Stops 35, 36 extending vertically away from the side jaws at a distance from the vertical axes 15, 16 are engaged by the engagement end pieces 23 ', 24' of control levers 23, 24 which are pivotably mounted on the sole holder 13 about vertical axes 21, 22. The arms of the control levers 23, 24, which extend inward from the articulation axes 21, 22 to the central longitudinal axis 14, are acted upon by a disk-shaped yoke member 25 which forwards integrally merges into a spring abutment pot 31 which extends in a cavity extending in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 14 19 of the sole holder 13 is arranged displaceably in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 14. The spring abutment pot 31 has a base 30 'with a central bore 34, on which a release spring 20 is supported from the front, which is supported with its front end on an axially adjustable abutment 39 of the sole holder 13.

The one-piece component consisting of the spring abutment pot 31 and the yoke member 25 has an opening extending transversely through the rear part in the manner of elongated holes 33, through which a hold-down cam 27 in the form of a rod extends, which extends from the front through a helical compression spring trained Auxiliary spring 29 is acted upon, which is supported on the same front abutment 39 as the release spring 20 and extends through the central bore 34 in the base 30 'of the spring abutment pot 31. As a result, the rod-shaped hold-down cam 27 is pressed against the rear edge of the slot-shaped opening 33.

The rod-shaped hold-down cam 27 extends after the slot-shaped opening 33 on both sides through slots 30 extending in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 14 in the side walls of the sole holder 13 and then into a link recess 40 of two vertically standing side plates 41 of the base body 11 the hold-down cams 27 have sliding bodies 42 which, in the rest position of the binding, bear against a slide track 28 of the side surface 41 which rises obliquely from the rear to the front according to FIGS. 2 and 3. The setting recess 40 is dimensioned so large that the side release according to the upper half of FIG. 1 is not hindered by the hold-down cam 27 abutting the edges of the setting recess.

It is essential that, in the rest position of the binding according to the lower half of FIG. 1, there is a play 26 between the rear end of the spring abutment pot 31, which forms the front stop surface of the yoke member 25, and the front edge of the rod-shaped hold-down cam 27. Accordingly, a small distance 43 should be provided on the opposite side of the hold-down cam 27 between the latter and the yoke member. Due to the play 26 and the small distance 43, an undesirable mutual influence of the height and side release mechanism by inserting a ski boot into the binding is effectively avoided.

For the front support of the ski boot sole, front support rollers 44, 45 are provided on the side jaws 17, 18, the central axes of which are arranged slightly laterally outside the vertical axes 15, 16, so that a slight opening effect is exerted on the side jaws in the event of a forward fall.

Furthermore, side holding rollers 37, 38 are provided on the side jaws 17, 18 in the region of the rear end, by means of which the sole of the set ski boot is also supported laterally. In addition, the side jaws 17, 18 overlap a set ski boot sole at 44 in order to hold it securely from above.

Nach Fig. 4 sind die Seitenhalterollen 37, 38 derart schräg von unten nach oben zusammenlaufend angeordnet, daß bei einer Seitenauslösung die Skistiefelsohle auch eine geringe Kraftkomponente in vertikaler Richtung auf den Sohlenhalter 13 ausübt.4, the side holding rollers 37, 38 are arranged so as to converge obliquely from bottom to top in such a way that when the side is released, the ski boot sole also exerts a small force component in the vertical direction on the sole holder 13.

The operation of the safety front baking described is as follows:

If a ski boot sole is set in the binding in its rest position according to the lower half of FIG. 1, the two side jaws 17, 18 are slightly expanded, so that the control member 23, 24, the yoke member 25 slightly compressing the release spring 20 to the front is moved. Because of the suitably large spacing 43, the hold-down cam 27 is not acted upon, which is thus still pressed by the auxiliary spring 29 with its end pieces 42 against the lower end of the slide track 28.

Now there is a page release according to the above Half of FIG. 1, the relevant control lever 24 presses the yoke member 25 forward, overcoming the short distance 43, whereupon the hold-down cam 27 is carried forward by compressing the auxiliary spring 29. The release spring 20 is thus to be calculated so that the total release force is determined by the sum of the spring forces of the release spring 20 and the auxiliary spring 29.

The design according to the invention also has the advantage that, within the small distance 43, the binding also has a certain lateral elasticity within which a certain lateral mobility of the side jaws 17, 18 is ensured without a side release occurring immediately.

Ab jetzt wird nicht nur die Hilfsfeder 29, sondern auch die Auslösefeder 20 zusammengedrückt, so daß eine normale Höhenauslösung erfolgt.3, the end pieces 42 of the hold-down cam 27 slide upwards on the slide track 28, the hold-down cam 27 initially moving forward, overcoming the style 26, until it comes into contact with the interface 32 of the yoke member 25. From now on, not only the auxiliary spring 29 but also the release spring 20 is compressed, so that normal height release takes place.

An essential further advantage of the invention is that when the binding is released in one direction (lateral or vertical release), the release force in the other direction becomes zero.
