A whirlpool bath of this type is known from DE-PS 38 00 400. The device, which is designed as a pump, conveys water that is used to draw in air and thus leads to a water-air bubble massage.

From DE-OS 37 16 683 a whirlpool bathtub is known, in which the device provided for each location sucks out water and mixes it with air as a water jet and returns it to the tub space. These The whirlpool bath is used for the water jet massage. The known whirlpool bath with facilities provided per location work with different operating modes.

It is an object of the invention to provide a whirlpool bathtub of the type mentioned at the outset, which can be provided with unitary devices and can be used either for the water jet massage or the water-air bubble massage.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the device can be driven in both directions of rotation, that the nozzle housing facing the tub space has an impeller chamber with an impeller that promotes in both directions, and that the impeller in the direction of rotation of the impeller still sucks water through the impeller support u. in the opposite direction of rotation as the pump wheel only sucks water out of the tub space through the suction openings and supplies it to the tub space as a water jet via a central outlet opening in the cover.

By using the two directions of rotation of the device, two operating modes can be implemented with the whirlpool bath. In one operating mode, the impeller works and generates a water jet for the water jet massage, while in the other operating mode, the pump wheel conveys water, which is used to draw in air and thus leads to a water-air bubble massage. The selection is made solely by the choice of the assigned direction of rotation of the device.

According to a preferred embodiment it is provided that the device can be driven by means of an electric motor which can be switched in the direction of rotation, since this makes the selection particularly simple and can be carried out by means of electrical switching commands.

According to one embodiment, the construction of the device is such that the impeller and the pump wheel are arranged one behind the other in a rotationally fixed manner on a drive shaft of the electric motor. With this arrangement, the impeller still supports the function of the pump wheel.

The water jet massage with the water jet is improved in one embodiment in that the suction openings are distributed in a circle over the circumference of the impeller chamber. It is also provided that the suction openings are made as radially directed slots in the cover and that the outlet opening is formed by a retaining ring which is attached with a sleeve-shaped jet guide leading to the impeller chamber in a central opening of the cover. The water jet is then directed from the impeller chamber.

The water-air bubble massage with the jet consisting of water and air is achieved in that an air duct ends in the area of the outlet opening, which is connected to the atmosphere via air ducts outside the tub space and via which air is sucked in by the Venturi principle and from which sucked water can be supplied to the tub space. The water only serves as a carrier for the air bubbles.

An admixture of air to the water jet conveyed by the impeller is made possible by the fact that air is admixed to the water jet sucked in by the impeller and supplied to the tub space via the outlet opening of the impeller chamber, which air can be sucked in from the atmosphere via air channels according to the Venturi principle, the air channels in the area end of the outlet opening of the impeller chamber.

So that the impeller or the pump wheel does not suck in hair or the like, the central outlet opening of the cover is covered with a protective grille which is connected to the beam guide by means of the retaining ring.

The tight installation of the device in a breakthrough of the bathtub is achieved despite the rotary bearing of the drive shaft of the electric motor in that the pump wheel chamber is closed to the electric motor by means of a motor shield in which the drive shaft is rotatably but sealed sealed by means of a mechanical seal. It is provided that the mechanical seal is supported on a bore in the motor shield and on a sleeve of the pump wheel that is pushed and firmly attached to the drive shaft.

A further embodiment provides that the pump wheel facing the impeller has a central inlet opening and has a plurality of radial pump channels which end in the region of the peripheral wall of the pump wheel chamber and the outlet opening thereof.

An optimal effervescent effect is achieved in that the device is built into the tub wall and that the outlet opening of the pump wheel chamber is directed towards the tub floor.

The exemplary embodiment shows a device which is suitable for installation in an opening in the tub wall 21 of a bathtub. The motor mount 10, which has a contact flange, is inserted into the opening. With the triple seal 19, the washer 18 and the threaded ring 17, which is screwed onto an external thread of the motor mount 10, the motor mount 10 is inserted tightly into the opening in the tub wall 21. The electric motor 12 with the motor shield 11 is covered by the receptacle 14, which is connected to the motor receptacle 10. The drive shaft 13 of the electric motor 12 protrudes from the motor shield 11 and carries the impeller 27 and the impeller 26 one after the other in a rotationally fixed manner. The cap nut 25 holds the impeller 26 and the impeller 27 on the drive shaft 13. The impeller 26 faces the trough space and is covered by the cover 30, which is screwed onto the flange of the cover 30 or is otherwise connected to it. The motor shield 11 and the intermediate ring 28 partitions off the pump wheel chamber PK, while the impeller chamber FK is formed between the intermediate ring 28 and the cover 30. The pump wheel 27 is arranged in the pump wheel chamber PK and faces the impeller 26 like the intermediate ring 28 has a central opening which opens into a plurality of radial pump channels. These pump channels end on the peripheral wall of the impeller chamber PK, which is formed by the motor mount 10. The outlet opening 33, which faces the trough bottom, is introduced into the motor mount 10, which starts from the pump wheel chamber PK.

Immediately at the outlet opening 33, the air channel 32 opens, which is likewise introduced into the motor mount 10 and is connected to the air channels 31, which lead to the hose nozzle 16. The sealing plug 15 closes the last air duct 31. An air hose is connected to the hose nozzle 16 outside the tub space, the free end of which ends in the atmosphere above the maximum level of the tub space.

The cover 30 forms an annular chamber towards the motor mount 10, into which the air channels 31 and 32 open.

Die zwischen den Stegen verbleibenden Schlitze bilden die Austrittsöffnung 35.Towards the trough space, the cover 30 is provided with a ring of suction openings 34 designed as radial slots, which open into the impeller chamber FK in the peripheral region of the impeller 26. The cover 30 has a central opening in which the beam guide 23 to the impeller 26 is fixed by means of the retaining ring 22. The retaining ring 22 simultaneously defines the protective grille 24 which forms the outlet opening 35 from the impeller chamber FK. The central guide body is connected via radial webs to a circumferential web of the protective grid 24. The slots remaining between the webs form the outlet opening 35.

Die Kreise deuten den angesaugten Luftstrom an, der als Luftbläschen vom Wasser W getragen dem Wannenraum zugeführt wird.1 shows the air bubble massage operation in which the electric motor 12 is operated in the direction of rotation in which the pump wheel 27 operates. Via the suction openings 34 of the cover 30 to the impeller chamber FK, water W is sucked in, which passes through the intermediate ring 28 into the pump wheel chamber PK and is fed there from the pump wheel 27 via the pump channels to the outlet opening 33. Due to the Venturi principle, the water flowing out of the outlet opening 33 sucks air L out of the air channel 32 Atmosphere that is supplied to the tub space in the form of air bubbles. The water W only serves as a carrier. The water W is also sucked in via the outlet opening 35 of the impeller chamber FK, the impeller 26 supporting the suction of water W in this direction of rotation, as the dash-dotted flow lines shown in FIG. 1 show. So that the impeller 26 has a supporting effect here, the vanes are inclined on the hub of the impeller 26 in such a way that they also draw water W through the outlet opening 35 of the impeller chamber FK. The circles indicate the sucked-in air flow, which is carried as air bubbles by the water W to the tub area.

As FIG. 2 shows, the water jet massage operating mode can be selected by switching the direction of rotation of the electric motor 12. The impeller 26 rotates so that water W is sucked in through the suction openings 34 in the cover 30 and is emitted as a water jet via the central outlet opening 35. The impeller 27 does not work in this direction of rotation. The amount of water drawn in by the impeller 26 can be very large. You can also increase the speed when changing the direction of rotation in the water jet massage mode.

Die strichpunktierten Linien zeigen den Strömungsverlauf des Wassers W und die Kreise deuten den Luftbläschenstrom an.Air L can be added to the water jet if the device has air channels 29, which are designed as connecting pipes. These air channels 29 are connected to the atmosphere via the air channels 31 and end in the area of the outlet opening 35 of the impeller chamber FK, specifically in the area of the jet guide 23. The protective grille 24 has openings at the ends of the air channels 29 so that the water jet emerging after the Venturi principle Suck air bubbles out of the air channels 29 and carry them with you can. The air channels 29 can be connected to an annular channel which is connected to the hose nozzle 16 via the air channel 31. A plurality of air channels 29 are then arranged at uniform angles over the circumference of the jet guide 23 and thus the outlet opening 35 in the protective grille 24, in order to admix air to the water jet at several points. The dash-dotted lines show the flow pattern of the water W and the circles indicate the air bubble flow.

So that the impeller 19 only works in the direction of rotation to generate the water jet and does not impair the function of the impeller 27, it can be provided that the impeller 26 is rotationally connected to the motor shaft 13 only in the direction of rotation to generate the water jet, while in the opposite direction of rotation on the motor shaft is freely rotatable.
