Abstract

The binding comprises a plate mounted pivotably on a ski about an axis by means of a pivot. The plate is provided with a horizontal finger, which is engaged in a bayonet groove of the pivot, with vertical play, in order to retain the plate axially on its pivot upon bending of the ski. The plate is thus not weakened by a perforation and the pivot is better protected against the formation of ice.

Description

The present invention relates to a safety ski binding comprising an underfoot plate pivotally mounted on the ski around a vertical axis.

Such fasteners are described, for example, in the patents AT 382 519, DE 28 51 634, US 4 294 461 and US 3 884 489. In all these fasteners, the plate is retained axially on its pivot by means of a part. retainer screwed from the top of the plate. Such axial retention is necessary even if the plate is retained perpendicular to the ski in its front part and in its rear part, this due to the bending of the ski at the level of the binding, bending by which the plate could escape from its pivot. The known method of restraint not only requires an auxiliary part, but above all it weakens the plate in its most stressed zone, by creating a hole through the plate. Such a hole also allows the snow compressed and melted by the boot to enter the pivot where it forms ice. In the case of a plate attachment in two telescopic parts in which one of the parts of the plate must be able to work longitudinally to ensure tripping in rear fall, as is the case in the fixation described in the patent application EP 0 385 944 of the applicant, this glass is capable of preventing the posterior part of the plate from moving back and consequently of preventing the release of the fixing.

There is also known a fixing in which the plate does not include an axial retaining part on its central pivot, the lateral retaining of the plate being, in principle, provided by a relatively long pivot on which the plate can slide axially.

This solution requires a relatively very thick plate, which increases the weight of the binding and raises the boot on the ski, reducing control of the ski.

The object of the present invention is to obviate the drawbacks of known plate fasteners, including the fastener described in application EP 0 385 944.

To this end, the safety ski binding according to the invention is characterized in that the pivoting mounting of the plate on the ski is ensured by two profiled parts, respectively male and female, one of which is integral with the plate and the other secured to the ski, these two profiled parts being assembled to one another rotatably by a bayonet device, one of said profiled parts having for this purpose at least one radial finger and the other profiled part at least a groove having a descending part followed by a part in an arc centered on the pivot axis and of a length such that it allows the rotation of the plate necessary for triggering the fixing.

This method of mounting the plate on its pivot does not require any auxiliary parts, nor opening through the plate. The plate is therefore not weakened in its central part and the absence of an opening prevents snow from entering the pivot under the pressure of the shoe.

The male part can be integral with the ski and the female part with the plate or vice versa. Similarly, the bayonet groove can be formed on the integral part of the plate, male or female or on the part attached to the ski, male or female. As for the descending part of the bayonet groove, it does not necessarily have to be parallel to the pivot axis, but it can be oblique, curved or even sinuous.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the ski binding according to the invention.

Figure 1 shows a side view of the fastener in the closed position.

Figure 2 is a top view of this attachment with a cutaway of the plate revealing the pivot.

Figure 5 is a side view of the pivot without the plate.

Figure 6 is a top view of this pivot also showing the position of the plate for mounting on the pivot.

The binding shown is of the same type as the binding described in patent application EP 0 385 944. It essentially comprises a plate 1 pivotally mounted on a ski 2 around a vertical axis 3 and provided at the front with a jaw 4 for holding the front end of a shoe 5 shown in broken lines and, at the rear, a heel piece 6 pivotally mounted on the plate 1 about a vertical axis 7. This heel piece is described in detail in patent application EP 0 385 943 of the applicant. The plate 1 is further supported at the front and at the rear by support and guide means 8 and 9 as described and shown in application EP 0 385 944.

As in the aforementioned patent application, the plate 1 consists of two telescopic parts, namely a rear part 1a carrying the heel piece 6 and a front part 1b coming in one piece with the front jaw 4 and mounted sliding inside the posterior part 1a. The part of the front part 1b of the plate opposite the jaw 4 has two parallel rectangular arms 10 and 11 sliding in the part 1a, as can be seen in FIG. 3. In this same figure, it can be seen that the part 1a has a rectangular groove 12 whose width is greater than the distance between the arms 10 and 11, so that the groove 12 and the arms 10 and 11 form a sort of slideway in which the rectangular flange 13 is retained with a body 14 provided a vertical cylindrical bore 15 (Figure 2) in which engages a pivot 16 secured to a base 17 fixed to the ski 2. The body 14 also serves as a support for a worm 18 whose axis 19, parallel when skiing, forms an angle of 25 ° with the axis 20 of the plate 1. The worm 18 is extended by a smooth cylindrical part 21 extending in a clearance 22 formed in part 1a of the plate and opening laterally on the side of the plate. The end of the part 21 is provided with a screw slot 23 allowing the drive of the worm screw by means of a screwdriver. The worm 18 is engaged, from below, with a rack 24 made up of slots parallel to each other and slightly oblique relative to the axis 20 of the plaque. The slots of the rack 24 are also tangent to the helix of the worm 18. The rotary drive of the worm 18 has the effect of displacing the part 1b of the plate relative to the pivot 16.

In the case of a fastening with a fall-back release as described in patent application EP 0 385 944, the part 1a of the plate is, in the absence of a shoe, pushed by the spring of the safety mechanism against a stop mounted at the rear and this part 1a must be able to move towards the rear. In this case, the length of the groove 12 must be greater than the length of the flange 13 to allow this retreat. On the other hand, in the case of a fixing to a plate without triggering a rear fall by retraction of the rear part of the plate, the groove 12 can have the form of a housing of the same dimensions as the flange 13.

The body 14 is provided with a radial finger 25 projecting inside the bore 15. This finger 25, here constituted by a pin, serves to axially lock the body 14 on the pivot 16 by an engagement of the type bayonet.

The plate 17 carrying the pivot 16 is fixed to the ski 2 by means of two screws 26 and 27 (Figures 5 and 6). The pivot 16, in this case a massive cylindrical male part, is provided with a bayonet groove having a descending part 28 parallel to the pivot axis, open at the upper part of the pivot 16 and opening into a second part 29 in an arc centered on the pivot axis 3 and whose width is substantially greater than the diameter of the finger 25.

To mount the plate 1 on its pivot, it is placed obliquely relative to the ski, so that its axis 20 forms an angle of 45 ° with the axis 30 of the ski. In this position, the finger 25 is located opposite the entrance to the groove 28. In FIG. 6, this finger is represented simply by its axis. It is therefore sufficient to vertically engage the finger 25 in the part 28 of the groove, then to bring the axis 20 of the plate parallel to the axis 30 of the ski. The plate is then locked vertically in the direction of the axis 3. In this position 25 ′, the finger 25 can make an angular displacement on either side of this position, this displacement being sufficient to allow the release of the fixing. in torsion, without the plate being able to escape from its pivot. The vertical clearance of the finger 25 in the groove 29 is also sufficient to allow the ski to flex in the region of the binding.

As already mentioned in the introduction, this construction is susceptible of numerous variants. In particular, the bayonet groove could be provided on the part 14 secured to the plate, the finger 25 then consisting of a pin driven into the pivot 16. The cylindrical male part could be secured to the plate, the piece secured to the ski then being a female part having a cylindrical bore. The male or female part could have come in one piece with part 1a of the plate. In this case, the bayonet groove is preferably provided on this part. If the structure of the ski allows, the female part integral with the ski could consist of a recess in the ski.

If the remaining material is sufficient, it would also be possible to provide two bayonet grooves and two fingers. The finger could be machined and have a square or other section.

Claims (4)

  1. A release binding for a ski comprising an underfoot plate (1) mounted pivotably on the ski (2) about a vertical axis (3), characterized in that the pivotable mounting of the plate on the ski is ensured by two profiled parts, male and female (14, 16) respectively, one (14) of which is integral with the plate and the other (16) integral with the ski, these two profiled parts being assembled with one another in a rotary manner by means of a bayonet device, one of said profiled parts having to this end at least one radial finger (25) and the other profiled part at least one groove having a descending part (28) followed by a part in the form of a circular arc (29) centered on the pivoting axis and of such a length that it permits the rotation of the plate necessary for the disengagement of the binding.
  2. The ski binding as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the profiled part which is integral with the plate is formed in one piece with the plate.
  3. The ski binding as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the profiled part which is integral with the plate consists of an added piece.
  4. The ski binding as claimed in claim 3, consisting of two telescopic parts, characterized in that one (1a) of the parts of the plate has, on its lower surface, an axial groove (12) and in that the other part (1b) has two parallel arms (10, 11) which are engaged in the first part, on each side of said groove, at the same time projecting into this groove, and in that the added piece (14) which constitutes said profiled part which is integral with the plate is provided with a flange (13) which has two sides parallel to the groove, is fitted into the groove and is retained in this groove by the projecting parts of said arms.
