Definitions
- the detection of imitation of a document is usually supported by the fact that the original is provided with certain characteristics which cannot be imitated, or can only be imitated with considerable effort or only incompletely, and thus make the original distinguishable from imitation.
- These characteristics include the use of special papers which are not accessible to everyone and into which, for example, fluorescent inlays, planchettes, watermarks, metal threads or other features which are not contained in freely accessible papers are incorporated.
- the optical design of the Serve as a mark of the document for example by printing markings, guilloches, complicated layers of color or meticulously structured motifs on the paper or using other printing techniques that make it difficult to imitate. All such characteristics have proven themselves in many areas, especially if, as is often the case, several are provided together, for example the paper contains watermarks and fluorescent inserts and is at the same time printed in a manner that is not counterfeit.
- EP-A 90 130 describes a method with which the disadvantages mentioned are to be overcome.
- This method for checking the authenticity of documents works on the principle of the color reaction systems known from pressure-sensitive copy papers (carbonless copying paper or NCR paper), which comprise an electron-donating color former and an electron-accepting color developer.
- pressure-sensitive copy papers carbonless copying paper or NCR paper
- clays, attapulgite, zeolite, bentonite and kaolin or also phenolic resins are used as color developers, and cationic dyes in their colorless (or very weakly colored) leuco form, e.g. Crystal violet lactone or benzoyl leukomethylene blue.
- One of the two components preferably the color developer of the color reaction system
- the other component that is to say preferably the color former
- a color reaction occurs between the components of the color reaction system, which causes a color appearance that differs from the original color of the marking liquid.
- the marking appears in the original color of the marking liquid.
- this object is achieved in that the color developer is evenly distributed in the paper. This is achieved in that the color developer is added to the paper pulp before the web is formed, that is, it is incorporated into the paper.
- activated clay qualities such as Silton, bentonite, attapulgite or synthetic products, such as treated anhydrides, aluminum silicates, magnesium silicates
- phenolic resins such as e.g. Condensation products of paraphenylphenol, para-alkylphenols with formaldehyde.
- the security paper according to the invention is coated with a marking liquid which contains a color former
- a marking liquid which contains a color former
- the marking penetrates into the paper and can even penetrate to the other side of the paper, ie it is mirrored there. It is now no longer possible to remove such a marking from the respectively marked document without destroying it.
- the security is significantly increased by the fact that a paper with an integrated color developer is a real security paper, that is to say the special papers mentioned at the outset (with, for example, fluorescent inserts, planchettes, watermarks, metal threads and the like), that are not accessible to everyone.
- Another advantage is that the marking can be carried out with the same success on both sides of the paper. In the past, the paper had to be coated on both sides.
- the marking liquid with only the color former as the sole colorant.
- Such a kind of "invisible" marking color which is only visible on an original document, is less useful, however, because the non-appearance of a marking on an imitation at the examiner can also lead to the wrong conclusion that the marking device has failed.
- documents must also be checked and validated for numerous applications, for example for railway tickets in the supranational transport association can, which are valid, but come from third-party issuers and do not have the security standard achieved according to the invention.
- parts of the surface of the security paper can be coated on one or both sides with a neutralizing color. In the areas neutralized in this way, there is no color reaction during the marking, so that the original color of the marking liquid appears. In contrast, the color reaction between color former and color developer takes place in the non-neutralized areas of the paper, and the overlay color appears. This enables an immediate comparison of the original color with the overlay color and thus a particularly quick and reliable check even by people with defective color.
- a further possibility of color differentiation results from the use of a multi-part stamp pad, in which at least one part contains the marking liquid without color former and at least another part of the stamp pad contains the marking liquid with color former.
- the paper is expediently provided with further authenticity indicators known per se, such as watermarks, fluorescent inlays and the like, which can be used in a targeted manner for an in-depth authenticity check if the color reaction has revealed the suspicion of imitation. It was found to be particularly surprising that watermarks appear significantly more clearly than usual in the paper according to the invention.
- a phenothiazine leuco base (“Pergascript Blue S-4G") is dissolved as a color former in a commercially available, for example green or red stamp ink.
- a watermark paper is provided as paper which contains activated attapulgite as color developer. If this paper is now printed with the stamp ink containing the color former, the result is an approximately dark brown stamp impression.

Abstract
A security paper allows documents to be produced which can be identified as authentic by means of a chromogenic reaction system formed by a chromogenic agent and a chromogenic developer, according to the principle of pressure-sensitive printing paper, l the chromogenic agent being applied to the paper provided with the chromogenic developer by means of a marking apparatus. Document security systems already exist which operate on the principle of pressure-sensitive printing papers. These systems however have drawbacks which the invention tries to eliminate. For this purpose, the color developer is uniformly distributed in the paper. When the security paper is brought into contact with a marking fluid which contains a chromogenic agent, the reaction between the color developer present in the paper and the chromogenic agent no longer occurs, as until now, on the surface of the paper, but in the paper itself. The marking thus penetrates into the paper and can even cross it to the other side, where it is reproduced upside down. It therefore becomes impossible to remove such a marking from the document without destroying the document itself. Another great advantage is that this paper with integrated chromogenic developer thus represents a real security paper, comparable to other usual special papers (provided for example with fluorescent inserts, planchettes, watermarks, metallic threads and the like. ) not accessible to everyone, which considerably increases the security obtained.
