Abstract

A metal section bar for door and window frames has a tubular shape with a substantially rectangular cross-section with two essentially flat opposite sides (1, 2), which extend to form abutment elements (41, 42) suitable for defining, with the sides themselves, the inner face and the outer face of the frame, respectively, and two sides (7, 8) perpendicular to said opposite sides (1, 2). A first perpendicular side (7) is provided with turned sections (9) defining a first substantially C-shaped cavity (10), arranged at the inner extremity of said first perpendicular side (7) and suitable for coupling to a joining element (18) of a standard type hinge (19). The second perpendicular side (8) is provided with similar turned sections (13) defining a second similar substantially C-shaped cavity (14), next to the corresponding inner extremity of said second perpendicular side (8) and suitable for coupling to a symmetrical joining element (20) of the above hinge (19).

Description

  • The present invention relates to a metal section bar for door and window frames.
  • The use is known of metal section bars in alluminium alloy for the construction of door and window frames of various types, especially outer windows.
  • Said section bars are accomplished in a tubular shape with a substantially rectangular cross-section and include two essentially flat opposite sides, which extend parallel to one another to form abutment elements suitable for defining with the sides themselves frame's inner and outer face, and two sides perpendicular to them one or each of which is provided with turned sections defining a substantially C-shaped cavity arranged at the extremity of the above side which corresponds to the frame's inner face. See for example EP-A-049694.
  • Such section bars can variably be coupled to accomplish a traditional joint, characterized by the presence of sealing gaskets arranged between the opposite abutments, as well as to accomplish a joint with a decompression pre-chamber (open joint).
  • According to the techniques in use both the traditional solution and that with an open joint require the use of different section bars for the fixed parts and for the moving parts.
  • The object of the present invention is that of overcoming the abovementioned drawback by allowing the use of the same section bar both for the fixed part and for the moving part of the door or window frame.
  • According to the invention such object is attained with a metal section bar for door or window frames, as defined in claim 1.
  • It is thus obtained in this way that a single section bar may be used both for the fixed part and for the moving part of the frame.
  • In fact, for the fixed part, the section bar is fastened to the jamb at the second perpendicular side and the C-shaped cavity of the first perpendicular side receives the hinge's fixed joining element, while for the moving part a identical section bar receives the corresponding opposite part (glass in the case of a window) at the first perpendicular side and the C-shaped cavity of the second perpendicular side receives the hinge's moving joining element. The spacing of the latter C-shaped cavity from the inner extremity of the corresponding side allows the definition between the inner extremities of the two section bars of the space necessary for housing a sealing gasket, as well as for the passing of the hinge's connecting parts.
  • With two equal section bars there is accomplished in particular a coupling of the traditional type, that is, with sealing gaskets which are in turn of the traditional type, acting by compression and housed in suitable seats of the abutment elements. This does not prevent a single section bar according to the invention from being used for the fixed part of the frame in combination with a different one of a known type to accomplish a joint of the so-called open type.
  • In the traditional solution the stagger between said first and second cavities is used for housing the abovementioned sealing gaskets, whereas in the open-joint solution there is a substantial complanarity of the outer sides and a variable-seal gasket is arranged in an internal space between the two section bars, coupled to a further C-shaped cavity on the first perpendicular side of the fixed section bar.
  • The features of the present invention shall be made more evident by the following detailed description of an embodiment illustrated as a nonlimiting example in the enclosed drawings, wherein:
    • Fig. 1 illustrates a metal section bar according to the invention;
    • Fig.s 2, 3 illustrate respective methods for the use of the metal section bar, with the traditional sealing gasket solution and with the open-joint type, respectively.
  • With reference to Fig. 1, the metal section bar according to the invention is configured in a tubular shape with a substantially rectangular cross-section with two essentially flat opposite sides 1,2 which extend to form abutment elements 41, 42 suitable for defining, with the sides themselves, the outer face and the inner face of the frame, respectively. The abutment elements 41, 42 have pairs of opposite turned sections 3, 4 suitable for defining minor cavities 5, 6. The section bar also comprises two sides 7, 8 parallel to one another and perpendicular to said sides 1, 2. Side 7 is provided with turned sections 9 defining a first substantially C-shaped cavity 10, arranged at the inner extremity of said side 7. Side 8 is provided with similar turned sections 13 defining a similar second substantially C-shaped cavity 14, next to its corresponding lower extremity. Side 7 has a further pair of turned sections 15 suitable for defining a further cavity 16 located at a certain distance from the upper extremity of side 7.
  • As illustrated in Fig. 2, if it is desired to accomplish a traditional coupling, the same section bar is used both for the fixed part and for the moving part. For the fixed part a section bar A such as that of Fig. 1 is fastened to the jamb 30 at the second perpendicular side 8 using for such purpose a coupling element 11 which has a part 12 located inside the C-shaped cavity 14 and a part 33 fastened in a way known in itself to a counterframe 31 fastened to the frame's jamb 30. The C-shaped cavity 10 of the first perpendicular side 7 of the same section bar receives a fixed coupling element 18 of a hinge 19. According to such a solution, for the moving part an identical section bar B is fastened to the glass opposite the first perpendicular side 7 and the C-shaped cavity 14 of the first perpendicular side 8 receives a moving coupling element 20 of hinge 19. The spacing of the latter C-shaped cavity 14 from the inner extremity of the corresponding side 1 allows the definition between the inner extremities of the two section bars of a space necessary for the passage of the connecting parts of hinge 19 and for housing a sealing gasket 32 inserted in cavity 5 of section bar B and between the outer extremities of the same section bars of the space necessary for housing a sealing gasket 17 which is inserted opposite the minor cavity 6.
  • As illustrated in Fig. 3, if it is desired to accomplish an open-joint coupling, a section bar A is used in combination with one of a known type C. There is accomplished in this case a substantial complanarity of sides 2 of section bars A, C at the outer face of the frame and a variable-seal gasket 26 is arranged in an internal space between section bars A, C, coupled to a further C-shaped cavity 16 formed by the pair of turned sections 15 on the first perpendicular side 7 of the fixed section bar A.
  • It should be noted that the shape and dimensions of cavities 10 and 14, as well as in general of the entire section bar of Fig. 1, are chosen so as to be able to use as moving and closing accessories, including the traditional system, components which can be installed by contrast and designed according to the cavity known as a "European chamber».
