Definitions
- the invention relates to a contact screw for contacting insulated lines or cables in a terminal according to the preamble of claim 1.
- contact screws For isolated cable conductors, contact screws have been used for many years, which are provided with milling devices on their end faces assigned to the conductor, which are slot-shaped (DE-C-11 68 518, DE-A-24 38 003) or similar to end mills ( GB-A-6146) can be formed.
- a contact screw is known from DE-U-88 07 168, in which the milling device has a relatively complicated shape with cutting edges, a special shape being proposed for clearing off the insulating material that has been lifted off. In any case, edges are provided in the known arrangements, which form cutting edges. These cutting edges scrape off this insulation as soon as the screws hit the conductor insulation when tightening. The removed material is, depending on the design of the end face of the contact screw, either received in the slots provided there or laterally cleared away. The contact screw is screwed in until the insulation on the face of the contact screw is completely removed and the face has contact with the conductor surface.
- the screws are generally tightened a few turns, material being removed from the conductor until a circular contact surface equivalent to the screw diameter has been worked out in the conductor.
- the surface of conductors with round or sector-shaped cross sections at the contact point is adapted to the shape of the screw end with loss of cross section.
- the known contact screws are particularly suitable for power cables with a cross-sectional area of approx. 50 - 240 mm2. Conductors with smaller cross sections are damaged too much by the known arrangements.
- the relatively high pressure on the conductor that occurs when screwing down is welcome on the one hand, since it presses the conductor, which is usually contained in a clamping body, into the clamping bed equipped with contact cutting or other means for clearing the insulation.
- the conductors made of soft material with small cross sections due to the required low specific resistance are not able to withstand the pressure. They are sheared, notched, move sideways or turn with the screw.
- the individual wires are slightly pushed apart or, as in the case of the thin individual conductors described above, sheared off, so that an admissible contact connection can no longer be achieved.
- the invention has for its object to improve a contact screw of the type mentioned in such a way that the weakening and deformation of the conductor material, especially with low conductor cross-sections or multi-wire conductors, is reduced while maintaining proper and reliable contact.
- single-wire or multi-wire insulated lines and cables can be contacted primarily in the cross-sectional area of approximately 2.5-50 mm 2 without damaging the conductors or reducing their cross-sections.
- the face of the contact screw facing the conductor consists of an annular surface, such as is present at the end of a hollow truncated cone is.
- the circular ring can also be replaced by another rotationally symmetrical body, e.g. B. a pipe socket, provided its diameter tapers or widens towards the side facing away from the conductor.
- the taper or widening need not be linear, as is the case with a truncated cone.
- an undercut is provided so that when the circular ring is pressed against the conductor by tightening the screw, the forces acting have a component which acts in the radial direction, so that a deformation of the hollow body, in particular its front annular surface, preferably takes place in the sense of an expansion.
- the deformation increases the cross-sectional area at the front end of the contact screw, so that a contact cross-section which corresponds essentially to the previously known contact screws is produced in the final assembly state.
- the diameter of the rotationally symmetrical body preferably tapers towards the side facing away from the conductor.
- the hollow truncated cone merges in the area of its smaller diameter on the outer surface with a rounding in the threaded section, the processing, the dimensioning and the material selection for the head section being carried out in such a way that deformation of the hollow body is ensured without tearing.
- a recess or bore is provided in the interior of the truncated cone, which extends into the threaded section at least over a certain length. This recess is used to hold cleared insulating material.
- the end face of the contact screw facing away from the contact side can be designed with an internal hexagon or a hexagonal head to form the engagement part, which can optionally also consist of another material.
- the tightening torque can be limited by appropriate devices. For this purpose, it is possible to provide predetermined breaking points between the engagement part and the threaded section.
- the threaded section is preferably designed as a fine thread. This makes it possible to tighten the contact screw "sensitively", whereby, as indicated above, the hollow body expands, so that the contact surface increases by four to eight times in the course of tightening, depending on the given dimensions, and the contact screw in the final stage of Assembly becomes a pure cuttingless pressure screw.
- the contacted conductor is deformed by the screw in such a way that affinity arises between the end shape of the screw and the conductor surface.
- the conductor cross-section is retained.
- the contact screw according to the invention is assembled, there are also no sharp-edged notches at which the conductor material would tear in the event of a later deformation (bending) due to the notch effect.
- the electrical contact can be produced even at a relatively low tightening torque, so that conductors with small conductor cross sections no longer bend, twist or shear off.
- the embodiment of a contact screw shown here comprises a threaded section 30 which has a head section 10 at one end and an engagement part 35 at its other end.
- the engagement part 35 is designed as a hexagon socket.
- the threaded section 30 is a DIN / ISO fine thread.
- the head section 10 is rotationally symmetrical about its longitudinal axis X and comprises a hollow body 11 which, starting from the threaded section 30, is funnel-shaped or conical bluntly expanded.
- the wall thickness is essentially constant, the inside diameter D1 and the outside diameter D2 changing in the same direction (cf. FIG. 3).
- the hollow body 11 At its front end, the hollow body 11 has a smooth end edge 12.
- the outer lateral surface 14 of the hollow body 11 merges into the threaded section 30 over a radius 20, so that the outer lateral surface 14 forms an undercut 17.
- the threaded portion 30 is at its end facing the hollow body 11 starting from the radius 20 initially flat and then turned with a chamfer, so that a support surface 18 is formed.
- the front edge 12 is first pressed through an insulating material 8 (see FIG. 7) by the force acting on the insulating material 8 perpendicularly and tangentially (to the annular end edge 12) by the action of a force K until the end edge 12 meets the conductor material 9.
- the force component KR occurring in this case (see FIG. 3) spreads the hollow body 11 made of ductile material (preferably made of electrolytic copper, possibly tinned) in the manner indicated in FIGS. 4 and 7.
- the insulating material is pressed outwards, on the other hand, a plug 7 of insulating material 8 is received in the receiving cavity 16.
- the deformation of the hollow body 11 is complete when its outer lateral surface 14 bears against the support surface 18 on the threaded section 30.
- the inner circumferential surface 13 of the hollow body 11 then forms the contact surface with the conductor 9.
- the shape of the contact screw described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 7 is such that it can be carried out on an automatic lathe in relatively few operations (apart from the shaping of the hexagon socket).
- the second preferred embodiment of the invention shown in section in FIG. 8 differs from the first embodiment in that the hollow body 11 widens toward the threaded portion 30.
- the insulating material 8 delimited by the end edge 12 is pressed inward into the receiving cavity 16, while the insulating material adjacent to the outer lateral surface 14 is pressed radially outward.
- the receiving cavity 16 is open towards the top, toward the hexagon socket.
- the head section 10 and the threaded section 30 are in two pieces, optionally made of different materials.
- the head section 10 is pressed into a corresponding bore in the threaded section 30 so that there is a torsionally stable connection.
- the bore for inserting the head section 10 is designed such that a recess 34 remains between the hexagon socket surfaces 33 and the upper end of the head section 10. This ensures that when the tool is inserted into the engagement part 35, the effective cross section between the hexagon socket surfaces 33 and the tool (not shown) is defined essentially independently of its end edge. With appropriate dimensioning and choice of material, it is thus possible to precisely predetermine the torque, which, when exceeded, expands the hexagon socket.
- the third embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 10 differs from that according to FIG. 9 in that the head part 10, viewed from the threaded section 30, first has a diverging and then a converging section. As in the embodiment according to FIG. 8, the receiving cavity 16 is continuous.
- the head part 10, as in the embodiment according to FIG. 8, is initially designed to converge in the direction of the front edge 12 and then to diverge again, so that the function during assembly is similar to the embodiment according to FIGS Fig. 1 to 7, but in the final phase of the deformation of the cavity 16 relative to the conductor 9 is essentially completed with the plug 7 being lifted off. This can lead to a further increase in the contact area.
- the head part 10 is designed as described in the first embodiment.
- the threaded part 30 has at its end opposite the head part 10 a flat 39 (or an end square or the like).
- the engagement part 35 is placed, the egg ner preferred embodiment consists of plastic. In the latter case, the engagement part 35 is extruded onto the threaded part 30.
- the engagement part 35 has a base 40 which represents the connection to the threaded section 30.
- the base 40 merges into an auxiliary hexagon 38, from which the engagement part 35 tapers conically up to a predetermined breaking point 37.
- a hexagonal head 36 is then formed on the predetermined breaking point 37.
- the engagement part 35 has a concentric recess or bore 41 over its entire length.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a contact screw for contacting insulated lines or cables in a terminal according to the preamble of claim 1.
For isolated cable conductors, contact screws have been used for many years, which are provided with milling devices on their end faces assigned to the conductor, which are slot-shaped (DE-C-11 68 518, DE-A-24 38 003) or similar to end mills ( GB-A-6146) can be formed. A contact screw is known from DE-U-88 07 168, in which the milling device has a relatively complicated shape with cutting edges, a special shape being proposed for clearing off the insulating material that has been lifted off.
In order to obtain the largest possible fully contacted surface, the screws are generally tightened a few turns, material being removed from the conductor until a circular contact surface equivalent to the screw diameter has been worked out in the conductor. The surface of conductors with round or sector-shaped cross sections at the contact point is adapted to the shape of the screw end with loss of cross section.
The known contact screws are particularly suitable for power cables with a cross-sectional area of approx. 50 - 240 mm². Conductors with smaller cross sections are damaged too much by the known arrangements.
The relatively high pressure on the conductor that occurs when screwing down is welcome on the one hand, since it presses the conductor, which is usually contained in a clamping body, into the clamping bed equipped with contact cutting or other means for clearing the insulation. On the other hand, the conductors made of soft material with small cross sections due to the required low specific resistance are not able to withstand the pressure. They are sheared, notched, move sideways or turn with the screw. In the case of conductors with large cross sections which are in the form of strands, the individual wires are slightly pushed apart or, as in the case of the thin individual conductors described above, sheared off, so that an admissible contact connection can no longer be achieved.
The invention has for its object to improve a contact screw of the type mentioned in such a way that the weakening and deformation of the conductor material, especially with low conductor cross-sections or multi-wire conductors, is reduced while maintaining proper and reliable contact.
This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Advantageous developments of the contact screw according to the invention are specified in the subclaims.
With the contact screw according to the invention, single-wire or multi-wire insulated lines and cables can be contacted primarily in the cross-sectional area of approximately 2.5-50 mm 2 without damaging the conductors or reducing their cross-sections. The face of the contact screw facing the conductor consists of an annular surface, such as is present at the end of a hollow truncated cone is. The circular ring can also be replaced by another rotationally symmetrical body, e.g. B. a pipe socket, provided its diameter tapers or widens towards the side facing away from the conductor. The taper or widening need not be linear, as is the case with a truncated cone.
However, it is essential in the contact screw according to the invention that an undercut is provided so that when the circular ring is pressed against the conductor by tightening the screw, the forces acting have a component which acts in the radial direction, so that a deformation of the hollow body, in particular its front annular surface, preferably takes place in the sense of an expansion. This ensures that, with a small force acting on the conductor, a high surface pressure takes place between the annular end face and the insulation, so that it is pushed through or cut through, with the subsequent deformation when the annular surface hits the opposite of the insulation harder conductors the insulation is cleared away. At the same time, the deformation increases the cross-sectional area at the front end of the contact screw, so that a contact cross-section which corresponds essentially to the previously known contact screws is produced in the final assembly state. The diameter of the rotationally symmetrical body preferably tapers towards the side facing away from the conductor. The hollow truncated cone merges in the area of its smaller diameter on the outer surface with a rounding in the threaded section, the processing, the dimensioning and the material selection for the head section being carried out in such a way that deformation of the hollow body is ensured without tearing.
A recess or bore is provided in the interior of the truncated cone, which extends into the threaded section at least over a certain length. This recess is used to hold cleared insulating material.
The end face of the contact screw facing away from the contact side can be designed with an internal hexagon or a hexagonal head to form the engagement part, which can optionally also consist of another material.
In a preferred embodiment of the contact screw, the tightening torque can be limited by appropriate devices. For this purpose, it is possible to provide predetermined breaking points between the engagement part and the threaded section.
The threaded section is preferably designed as a fine thread. The contacted conductor is deformed by the screw in such a way that affinity arises between the end shape of the screw and the conductor surface. The conductor cross-section is retained. When the contact screw according to the invention is assembled, there are also no sharp-edged notches at which the conductor material would tear in the event of a later deformation (bending) due to the notch effect. With the design according to the invention, the electrical contact can be produced even at a relatively low tightening torque, so that conductors with small conductor cross sections no longer bend, twist or shear off.

As can be seen from FIGS. 1 to 6, the embodiment of a contact screw shown here comprises a threaded
Fig. 3).The
At its front end, the
The inner
When assembling the embodiment of the contact screw shown here, the
The deformation of the

The second preferred embodiment of the invention shown in section in FIG. 8 differs from the first embodiment in that the

The bore for inserting the
Exact torque limitation is thus possible in an extremely simple manner, so that even when handled by untrained personnel Personnel damage to the conductor 9 is reliably avoided. At this point it should be expressly pointed out that the provision of a
The third embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 10 differs from that according to FIG. 9 in that the
In the preferred embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 11, the
The
This arrangement ensures that there is no risk of accident even when used on a live conductor using a non-insulated tool. With a corresponding dimensioning of the
