Abstract

"IMPROVED HINGE" consisting of two sections, an internal one (11) of circular cross-section mounted directly on the door (10) and an external one comprising two semisections (12) and (15) which are mounted on the vertical jamb of the door, window or the like (13). On the head (32) an attachment (17) is fitted which matches up externally with section (12). Fitted inside and at the top end of section (11) is attachment (18) and at the bottom end the tapering washer (24) which has a hole (24a) in the middle and is welded to the bottom edge of section (11).

Description

  • This Utility Model application consists, as mentioned in the title thereof, of an "IMPROVED HINGE" whose new construction, shape and design characteristics comply most reliably and effectively with the purpose for which it was specifically designed.
  • There are on the market, which may therefore be considered as the state of the art, a variety of hinges of different shapes and for different purposes, generally made up of two flat plates or leaves bent over at one end to form a cylindrical housing which, when joined to another, identical leaf with the aid of a pin, enable doors, windows and any other surface to be easily and effortlessly rotated around a vertical axis, as the user requires.
  • Utility Model nº 89 03041, also belonging to the applicant herefor, describes an improved hinge with entirely different features from the previous ones, as its use and mounting eliminate any spaces existing between the doors or windows and their corresponding frames, where one might catch one's fingers, this improved hinge being particularly useful in premises or dwellings where there are young children.
  • The hinge referred to in Utility Model nº 89 03041 consists of an open longitudinal section which is discontinued over a long enough length to allow the door, window or whatever has to be opened or closed to be inserted into it, and this second circular section fits into another one, also circular, which is attached to the frame.
  • As described in the aforementioned Utility Model, this second section is made up of two leaves or semisections which are fixed to the corresponding jamb by means of the necessary screws, thereby facilitating the mounting of the first section inside the second, as this second one is formed by two supplementary pieces which are larger in diameter than the first.
  • The reducing to practice and introduction on to the market of the object of Utility Model 89 03041 has shown up the advantages of this improved hinge and the need to perfect it further with a view to facilitating its mounting on door-, window- and similar frames.
  • The said improvements involve a set of accessories which, in combination with the improved hinge, enable it to be fixed on and inserted into the said frames and surrounds easily and securely, while at the same time reinforcing the hinge's rotation.
  • The said accessories are supports which are mounted both on the head of the frame and on the bottom of the hinge, engaging therewith. An attachment is fixed to the frame head, consisting of a disc welded to a generally circular section, and matching the external section of the hinge which, in turn, is mounted on the door jamb, moreover, welded to the inner section of the hinge is a round washer with a protuberance in the middle that engages another, generally concave washer with a central hole to house the aforementioned protuberance. From the upper portion of the central section and by way of the corresponding notches on its central surface, another circular section attachment is mounted with a single discoid base and central hole into which a bushing with two lateral grooves is screwed, the latter incorporating a spring bolt that is coupled to the attachment on the frame head.
  • The hinge is fixed to the jamb with these accessories, whereby, as mentioned earlier, the job of inserting and removing the door into and from the frame or surround is made easier.
  • Further details and characteristics of this Utility Model application will become apparent during the following description referring to the drawings accompanying this Specification which show, somewhat schematically, the preferred details. These details are given as examples, with reference to a possible embodiment, but they are in no way limiting; therefore, this description must be considered as being illustrative, with no restrictions of any kind.
  • Figure nº 1 is an elevation cross-section view in which we can see the accessories that facilitate the mounting of the hinge and its fixing to the frame head (32) of a conventional door (10).
  • Figure nº 2 is a cross-section plan view of the frame or vertical surround (13), hinge and door (10), as well as of the accessories mentioned, which are the object of this Utility Model.
  • Figure nº 3 is similar to that shown in figure nº 2 but without the semi-section (15) for the purpose of allowing the door (10) to open more than 90°, whereby the moulding (16) is wholly or partly eliminated.
  • In one of the preferred embodiments of the object of this Utility Model, and as described in Utility Model 89.03041, the hinge is made up of two sections, the first of which is the internal, circular one (11) mounted directly on the door (10). The external section consists of two semi-sections (12) and (15) which are mounted on the door-, window- or similar jamb (13).
  • The external section mounted on (13) and (16) is formed by two generally circular semi-sections (12) and (15) with angled ends (12a) and (12b), the semi-sections (12) and (15) being attached to the flat surfaces (15b) and (12b) by screws (14) distributed along the whole length of the sections (12b) and (15b), the embellishment mouldings (16) being fitted afterwards.
  • In this embodiment the width of the mouldings (16) will depend on the degree of opening required for the door (10) and may be kept to a minimum for strictly decorative purposes, just as the semi-section (15b) may also be eliminated, without detriment to the hinge's inherent safety.
  • The present improvements are based on the fitting to the head (32) of an attachment (17) that matches, on the outside, the external section (12). The attachment (17) has the same circular cross-section as section (12) but is larger in diameter and has a circular base (17a) on the top part with a circular hole (17b) in the centre, as well as holes (17c) near its edge to take the screws (30) joining the attachment (17) to the head (32).
  • The inner section (11) receives therein, at the top end, attachment (18) which is generally circular in cross-section like section (11), has a single, circular base (18) with a hole (31) in the centre and, on the side of said attachment (18) are some notches (22) that match up with notches (23) formed on the top of section (11), the hole (31) is used for screwing in bushing (19) which is cylindrical and open at the upper end with notches on its cylindrical surface (19a) that align up with notches (22) and (23).
  • This bushing (19) contains, in its interior, the spring (20) and bolt (21), the stop (21b) being formed by a circular protuberance on said bolt (21). In the extended position, bolt (21) passes through hole (31) and into hole (17b) of attachment (17) mounted on the head (32).
  • On the bottom edge of section (12c) there is welded a washer (25) which has the cylindrical, small-diameter protuberance (26) that tapers upwards like the frustum of a cone (27) which, in turn, extends into the cylinder (28) and the cone (29). This washer (25) welded to the edge (12c) engages with the tapering washer (24) with central hole (24a) through which the protuberance (28) and (29) is inserted.
  • For hanging and removing the door, as shown in figure nº 2, a sharp object is inserted into the notches (23), (22) and (19a) and the bolt (21) removed from the hole (31) and (17b).
  • It will be understood from the drawings and our explanation of them that the Utility Model application described herein provides a simple, effective item that is very easy to reduce to practice, constituting, without any doubt, a new industrial result.
  • It should be noted, for all relevant purposes, that all the variations in, and modifications to details that, through circumstances and practice might be considered advisable, may be made to the object of this Model, provided the variations introduced do not alter or modify the essential nature of the item, which is summarised in the following CLAIMS.
