Description
The invention relates to a heat pipe with a housing containing a heat-transporting medium, which has an evaporation area and a condensation area.
Derartige Heatpipes sind bekannt.Such heat pipes are known.
The problem with these heat pipes is that the steam flow and the condensate flow directed in the opposite direction can only be decoupled with difficulty in order to achieve the highest transmission rates, in particular in the case of small cross sections, so that the condensate flow is always entrained or hindered by the opposite steam flow and consequently the heat pipe with regard their transmission performance is not working optimally.
The invention is therefore based on the object of improving a heat pipe of the generic type in such a way that this problem no longer occurs.
This object is achieved in a heat pipe of the type described in the introduction in that a steam channel is provided in the housing, that a non-wettable porous structure is arranged between the steam channel and the condensation area, which is impermeable to the condensate due to its pore size, and that a the condensate from the condensation area to the evaporation area leading condensate channel is provided.
Non-wettability means that the surface tension of the heat-transporting medium is greater than the critical surface tension of the porous structure.
By means of the present invention, it is now possible for the first time to completely separate the steam flow from the condensate flow in a heat pipe, since the non-wettable porous structure prevents the condensate in the condensation area from entering the steam channel. Rather, the condensate is forced to flow in the condensate channel to the evaporation area, in which it is in turn evaporated.
Due to the constant formation of condensate in the condensation area, the pressure in the condensate is also increased and thus this is pressed due to the increasing pressure through the condensate channel to the evaporation area, so that in particular a "dry running" of heat pipes working under the influence of gravity can no longer occur as long as this pressure maintains the capillary pressure of the non-wettable structure.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the heat pipe according to the invention, it is provided that the condensate channel is designed as a capillary structure that can be wetted by the condensed medium. As a result of this design of the condensate channel, in addition to the pressure increase in the condensate in the condensation area due to the solution according to the invention, capillary forces are also used to improve the transport of the condensate to the evaporation area.
A particularly good mode of operation of the heat pipe according to the invention can be achieved in that the capillary structure extends into the condensation area.
In addition, it has proven to be expedient if the capillary structure is formed by the non-wettable structure, which is surface-coated for this with wettable materials. Thus, the desired capillary structure and the non-wettable porous structure can be formed in a simple manner by producing a single carrier structure.
Furthermore, it is advantageous if a non-wettable porous structure is provided between the evaporation area and the steam channel, which is impermeable to the condensed medium due to its pore size.
The simplest solution provides that the non-wettable porous structure lines the entire housing on the inside.
A solution in which the non-wettable porous structure is part of a housing insert has proven to be structurally advantageous, so that a clear separation between the condensate flow and the steam flow takes place both in the condensation area and in the evaporation area.
In the heat pipe according to the invention, the capillary structure expediently extends into the evaporation region.
It is advantageously provided that the housing insert comprises the steam channel, for example in the form of bores or channels made in the housing insert.
It is also advantageous if the housing insert comprises the condensate channel, which can also be introduced into the housing insert, for example in the form of channels.
It is only more advantageous if the housing insert also includes the capillary structure, i. that is, the housing insert partially forms the capillary structure.
It has proven to be a particularly cost-effective solution if the housing insert is made from the non-wettable porous structure and is converted into a wettable capillary structure in a peripheral region, for example by superficially coating the non-wettable porous structure with a material wettable by the condensate.
A structurally particularly preferred solution provides that the housing is a hollow cylinder and the housing insert is a hollow part that can be inserted into it and has a non-wettable porous structure arranged in the shape of a cylinder jacket.
In all of the exemplary embodiments described so far, nothing was said about the material structure of the non-wettable porous structure. For example, it is advantageous if the non-wettable porous structure is a foam material, a woven material or a felt material.
Furthermore, in the exemplary embodiments described so far, nothing was said about the material from which the non-wettable porous structure is advantageously made. For example, exemplary embodiments provide for the non-wettable porous structure to be made of graphite, as a non-wettable material for metals or alkali halides serving as a heat-transporting medium, and of Teflon as a non-wettable material for water or ammonia, which serves as a heat-transporting medium.
Furthermore, nothing was said about the pore size of the porous structure in connection with the exemplary embodiments described so far. The pore size is determined by the surface tension of the condensate and selected so that it is smaller than the pore size through which the condensate would still pass in the present pressures.

A first exemplary embodiment of a heat pipe according to the invention, designated as a whole by 10, comprises a
A heat-transporting medium is arranged in the
Due to the fact that the non-wettable porous structure is not permeable to the
In the
The
However, in order to be able to place the
The design of the housing insert 38 according to the invention thus ensures that the
If such a heat pipe is operated in the gravitational field and the
In a second improved embodiment of the heat pipe according to the invention, designated as a whole by 60, parts identical to the first embodiment are provided with the same reference numerals, so that reference can be made to the explanations for the description of the first embodiment with regard to their description.
In contrast to the first exemplary embodiment, at least the
In this second exemplary embodiment, it is also particularly advantageous if the
In a preferred exemplary embodiment, the capillary structure according to the invention can be produced according to the invention in that the housing insert 38, which is designed as a tube, is produced from the non-wettable porous structure and extends to the
As a coating for converting the non-wettable porous structure into a capillary structure that can be wetted by the condensed heat-transporting medium, it is conceivable, for example, to metallize the respective structure on the surface.
