Abstract

A strainer (10) for dishwashing machines and the like is composed of two strainer parts (12; 16) produced in each case from a thin perforated sheet of stainless steel. The first large-area strainer part (12) has a circular opening (14), in which there is inserted the cylindrical second strainer part (16) which is dimensioned correspondingly in its outside diameter, a circumferential annular flange (20) which is provided at the upper edge of the cylindrical strainer part and is bent radially outwards, being connected to the material of the first strainer part (12) surrounding the circular opening. Tabs (28) are punched out through in each case a number of pairs of essentially radial slots offset over the angle at circumference and, after being punched out, are firstly bent approximately at right angles either on the bent annular flange (20) of the cylindrical strainer part (16) or in the assigned material of the first strainer part (12) surrounding the circular opening (14). After assembly of the two strainer parts (12; 16), the tabs (28) are bent onto the rear side of the assigned region of the strainer part not provided with the tabs (28) until the annular flange (20) rests flatly on the material surrounding the opening (14). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a drain sieve for dishwashers and the like, which is composed of two sieve parts each made of thin perforated sheet metal made of corrosion-resistant steel, of which the first large-area sieve part has a circular opening, into which the outer diameter is approximately the same Diameter of the circular opening correspondingly dimensioned cylindrical second sieve part is used, with a circumferential annular flange provided at the upper edge of the cylindrical sieve part being connected to the material of the first sieve part that surrounds the circular opening and is bent radially outwards.

Such screens, which are composed of two separately manufactured screen parts, are arranged, for example, in a removable manner, in the floor drain of dishwashers. The first sieve part has an approximately semicircular configuration in plan view with an approximately central circular opening and is pressed from an originally flat blank made of perforated sheet metal into a shape which is slightly conical or funnel-shaped to the circular opening. The circular opening in turn is formed in an additionally pressed-in depression in which the upper edge of the second, cylindrical shape sieve part is held, which in turn is bent together from an originally rectangular blank made of perforated sheet metal to form a cylinder and is connected along the overlapping edges that meet. Both the last-mentioned connection of the overlapping edges of the cylindrical sieve part and its mounting in the countersink of the first sieve part have hitherto been carried out by spot welding, that is to say an electrical resistance welding method, for which a circumferential annular flange which is bent radially outwards is provided on the upper edge of the second sieve part assigned, the circular opening in the first sieve part of the annular material region of the counterbore rests, then through mentioned spot welding of the ring flange with the assigned material area of the countersink an inseparable connection of the two screen parts is obtained. Although perforated sheet metal made of corrosion-resistant steel is used for the production of both sieve parts, it is observed that the known drain sieve tends to corrode after a long period of use, this corrosion evidently originating from the welding points of the connection of the two sieve parts and the superimposed edges of the cylindrical sieve part.

In contrast, the invention is based on the object of changing the design of the known drainage screens in such a way that the electrical resistance welding of their connecting areas is completely dispensed with, thus preventing the formation of corrosion and at the same time resulting in simplified, more cost-effective production.

Starting from a drain strainer of the type mentioned at the outset, this object is achieved in that either in the folded annular flange of the cylindrical strainer part or in the associated material surrounding the circular opening of the first strainer part by in each case a number of circumferentially offset pairs of im essential radial slots tabs are punched out and, after being punched out, are initially folded at approximately a right angle, which are folded after the assembly of the two screen parts until the ring flange bears against the material surrounding the opening in flat contact with the rear of the assigned area of the non-tabbed screen part . The connection of the two screen parts by such a form-fitting mechanical connection by means of tabs avoids the structural change in the surface in the welding areas which occurs during resistance welding, which is the reason for the observed corrosion. By using edging or press punches with polished press surfaces for edging the lugs or pressing of the ring flange with the assigned material area of the first screen part ensures that there is also no mechanical roughening of the connecting areas of the first and second screen parts, which in turn could give rise to signs of corrosion.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the tabs are formed in the material surrounding the circular opening of the first screen part.

If the assembly of the two sieve parts takes place in such a way that the cylindrical sieve part is inserted from above through the circular opening and is guided up to the bottom surface of the ring flange on the material surrounding the circular opening, then the tabs are edged up before the connection of the two sieve parts so folded over on the top of the ring flange of the second sieve part.

The edge flange of the cylindrical screen part and the associated material surrounding the circular opening of the first screen part are expediently additionally pressed together in such a way that the tabs are essentially flush with the material of the other screen part adjoining in the circumferential direction, and that the tabs are underneath - or overlapped material is pressed into the cutouts formed by the tabs. The connection area between the ring flange of the second sieve part and the first sieve part then has the same height throughout, so that the risk is avoided that components that have been washed in via the drain sieve can get caught in this connection area.

The circumferential ring flange of the cylindrical screen part and the adjacent material surrounding the circular opening of the first screen part can additionally by at least an impression created parallel to the longitudinal central axis of the cylindrical screen part must additionally be secured against rotation relative to one another.

In the case of the second screen part produced from an originally flat perforated sheet metal blank, which is formed into a cylinder and in which the overlapping longitudinal edges of the blank are connected to one another, this connection takes place in that the overlapping edges each have at least one on the outside on the one hand and the inside of the Sheet metal blank on the other hand have folded back strip-shaped section, and that the stiffened sections are suspended in one another and then pressed together. A mechanical fold connection therefore takes the place of the spot weld connection.

Beide Siebteile 12 und 16 sind aus ursprünglich ebenflächigen Lochblechen aus korrosionsbeständigem Stahl ausgestanzt und umgeformt.1 and 2 show a drain strainer, designated in its entirety by 10, which in the special case is intended for the removable arrangement in the bottom discharge opening of a dishwasher, which in its basic structure and shape corresponds to the conventional drain used for this purpose. Sieving corresponds and - like this - from a first sieve part 12 which is approximately semicircular in plan view (FIG. 1) and slightly conical or funnel-shaped in cross section (FIG. 2) with a circular opening 14 and a second, essentially cylindrical sieve part 16 (Fig. 2 and 3) is composed. Both sieve parts 12 and 16 are punched out and formed from originally flat perforated plates made of corrosion-resistant steel.

The circular opening 14 is formed in a countersink 18 (FIGS. 2, 4 and 5) pressed into the first sieve part, while the second sieve part 16, whose outer diameter is essentially the same or only slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the circular opening 14 has at its upper edge an outwardly folded circumferential annular flange 20, the diameter of which is somewhat smaller than the clear inner diameter of the countersink 18. The cylindrical screen part 16 is inserted from above through the circular opening 14 until its circumferential ring flange 20 within the countersink 18 on the material of the first screen part surrounding the opening 14 lies on. In the known drain screens, the circumferential ring flange is connected to the associated material surrounding the opening by spot welding, which has the disadvantages described at the outset.

In contrast, in the drain strainer 10 according to the invention, a mechanical connection between the ring flange 20 and the sieve part 12, which is explained in more detail below in connection with FIGS. 4 and 5, is provided.

The rectangular punched-out 22 shown in FIG. 1 in the upper half in the sieve part 12 and a further punched-out 24 which opens into the edge of the circular opening 14 and which continues in the cylindrical sieve part 16 into a slot-shaped opening 26 which extends approximately over half its height ( 2 and 3) are used to attach a handle (not shown) for lifting the sieve 10 out of the drain opening of the dishwasher. These punched-outs 22, 24, which are also provided in the known drainage screens and are not part of the invention, and the slot-shaped opening 26 are only mentioned for the sake of completeness in the context of the present description.

The attachment of the annular flange 20 of the cylindrical screen part 16 on the associated, the opening 14 surrounding annular material strips of the recess 18 is carried out by means of a number of tabs 28, of which in the special embodiment, a total of six distributed in equal angular sections, each by a pair of spaced, in essential radial slots are cut out of the annular material strip, as can be seen in particular in FIG. Before the cylindrical sieve part 16 is installed in the opening 14 in the first sieve part 12, the punched-out tabs 28 are first folded upwards. After placing the ring flange 20 on the now interrupted in the area of the tabs, ie no longer continuous, the Material strips surrounding the opening, the tabs 28 are then bent in the downward direction onto the upper side of the ring flange 20, as can be seen in FIG. The first and the second screen part 12, 16 are then already inseparably connected to one another as long as the tabs 28 are not bent open again. In order to further increase the strength of this connection against rotation of the sieve parts relative to one another, it is expedient to additionally press the tabs 28 and the ring flange 20 together in a press in such a way that the material of the ring flange 20 lying under the bent tabs 28 into the through the Tabs 28 formed interruptions are pressed into the circumferential strip of material, whereby the tabs 28 are then shifted into the plane of the ring flange 20. In the connection shown in FIG. 5, this additional pressing has not yet been carried out. Additional impressions 30 pressed into the area between the tabs 28 in the ring flange 20 lying on top of one another and the underlying material of the countersink 18 represent a further safeguard against rotation of the cylindrical sieve part 16 relative to the upper - funnel-shaped - sieve part 12.

The cylindrical sieve part 16 is bent from an originally flat blank made of perforated sheet metal into a cylindrical shape, the connection of the meeting edges - in the area below the slot-shaped opening 26 - being illustrated in FIG. 6. It can be seen that a mechanical connection, namely a fold connection, is also selected here, for which purpose at least one strip-shaped section 32a or 32b, which is folded back on the outside on the one hand and the inside of the sheet metal blank on the other, is provided, which is hooked into one another and then pressed together in such a way that a connection that cannot be released under normal conditions is produced.

It should therefore be noted that the sieve parts 12 and 16 combined to form the drain sieve 10 are exclusively connected to one another by mechanical techniques, which have been tried and tested in sheet metal processing, and which do not change the surface structure of the sheets in the sense that corrosion-resistant sheets now tend to corrode would.
