Description

The invention relates to a device for transferring sterile liquids in a closed system, consisting of two oppositely arranged puncture mandrels penetrated by two parallel, offset staggered channels, the channels each being scarce at one end in one of the tips of one of the puncture pins and at the opposite end end below the tip of the other puncture mandrel, and a base plate, which is penetrated by the casing of the channels in the center, is located in the middle of the two puncture mandrels.

Such a device, based on the preamble of claim 1, is known from DE-A-1810299.

When transferring sterile liquids in a closed system, such as when adding sterile components to infusion solutions, when mixing two ready-made infusion solutions or when dissolving or diluting sterile-packed lyophilisates or concentrates into a form ready for administration, it is necessary to use sterile liquids transfer from one vessel to another vessel with sterile contents. The sterility of the contents of both vessels must be preserved, which is to be achieved by a conduction in the closed system. The vessels serving this purpose are mostly surfaces of any kind which are closed with rubber plugs which are pierced with hollow needles dimensioned in such a way that the rubber is not injured and therefore closes again completely airtight after the needle has been removed.

According to a known embodiment, so-called double cannulas are used for this purpose, the two ends of which are tapered to a sharp tip and which are penetrated by two parallel channels. At approximately the same distance from the two ends, this double needle is provided with a disc-shaped handle plate, the center of which is penetrated by the double cannula. Each of the channels of this double cannula ends with one end in one of the two tips of the double needle, while the other end of each channel emerges laterally after penetrating the base plate before reaching the opposite tip. In the practical application of this device for the transfer of sterile liquids, the sterile double needle is removed from its sheath, which ensures sterility, and is inserted with one end into the vessel which is to receive the liquid to be transferred. The second container, the content of which is to be transferred to the first, standing vessel, is then placed on the second, vertically upward needle end. The presence of two channels means that the air can escape from the receiving vessel into the dispensing vessel during filling.

Since the receptacle has to absorb additional quantities, it is not completely filled. Due to the sterilization there is always a negative pressure. If the double needle is now pushed into the sealing rubber stopper, some air is sucked in via the channels of the needle, which, since it is unfiltered, is contaminated and questions the sterility of the contents of the vessel.

It is also known for the dissolution of lyophilisates, which are located in a vessel, in liquids which are filled in a flexible bag, to transfer this liquid through a single-channel double needle which is surrounded by a sleeve for better handling. This needle is first inserted into the receiving vessel with one of the two needle tips, whereupon in the bag placed on the other needle tip, pressure is generated so that the liquid can pass through the single channel and enter the receiving vessel. Apart from the fact that this single-channel needle is tied to the use of a bag as a dispensing vessel, here too, as in the case of the double cannula, there is a risk of contamination by unfiltered air when the needle tip is inserted into the receiving vessel.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a double cannula in which the risk of contamination during the transfer process is eliminated and which is both easy to use and does not require excessive transfer times.

This object could be achieved in that a double cannula, as has been commonly used up to now, is surrounded over its entire length up to both tips with a sleeve which is mounted gas-tight on a base plate approximately corresponding to the handle plate of the known device and in which at least one of the open ends, but preferably both ends, are each sealed with a tearable filter so that the protected or both puncture pins of the double cannula are in a sterile space sealed off by a filter until they are pushed into one of the vessels. After inserting one of the puncture mandrels or the exposed puncture mandrel into the receiving vessel, pressure equalization also takes place via the other puncture mandrel; however, the air that it draws in is drawn in through the filter that closes off the room in which it is located, so that the sterility is full remains preserved. However, this means that in the event that only one of the ends is provided with the filter according to the invention, this must be assigned to the dispensing vessel.

The present invention accordingly relates to a device for transferring sterile liquids in a closed system, consisting of two oppositely arranged puncture mandrels penetrated by two parallel, offset channels, the channels each at one end in the tip of one of the puncture pins and at the opposite End just below the tip of the other puncture mandrel, and a base plate, which is penetrated by the jacket of the channels in the center and is located in the middle of the two puncture pins, characterized by a gas-tight attached to the base plate, which extends over the entire length of the channels and the two puncture pins slightly protruding sleeve, at that open end, which is assigned to the dispensing vessel, or both open ends, each by a tear-proof filter attached to the edge of it, including the puncture mandrel or both puncture mandrels is closed and both ends have a diameter which exceeds that of the openings of the vessels subjected to the conduction.

When using the device according to the invention, this is first placed with the unlocked end or with one of the two filter surfaces on the stopper of the vessel to be filled, whereupon the filter is torn by a jerky movement downward and the puncture mandrel underneath or simply the open puncture mandrel through the Plug is driven. It is important that the filter is made of a material that can be easily pierced by the upper end of the vessel and still ensures sterility through the appropriate fineness of the pores. Filter paper has proven particularly useful here, especially a hydrophobic paper filter with a maximum pore size of 0.45 µ. The same process is repeated when that vessel is placed on the device according to the invention, which contains the liquid to be transferred, with the only difference that it is placed with the opening facing down onto the second end, which is closed with the filter, and pressed into it. The embodiment in which both ends of the sleeve are closed with a filter is preferred, since misuse is excluded here. If the end closed with the filter is incorrectly placed on the receiving vessel, unfiltered and thus contaminated air is sucked into this vessel if the opposite side does not have a protective filter.

For all of these measures, it is a prerequisite that both ends of the sleeve have a diameter which makes it possible to place the sleeve so far over the opening of the vessel that the corresponding piercing mandrel can completely pierce the stopper. It should be borne in mind that in practice bottles are used that have a short bottle neck and expand very soon after opening. In order to be able to carry out the transfer of the liquid even with such bottles without any problems, the diameter of the sleeve should expediently not only exceed that of the bottle neck which supports the opening, but should be large enough that the sleeve end could also surround that area of the bottle which is already in contact greatly expanded. In general, it is advantageous if at least one of the sleeve ends has a relatively large diameter, since then the device according to the invention can be used more universally and is not tied to the use of bottles of certain diameters in the bottle neck. Since this would require a large diameter of the sleeve, especially in the case of large bottles, which are often used to hold the transferred liquid, which would make the device according to the invention unwieldy, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one, but preferably both ends of the sleeve provided with a funnel-shaped extension. As a result, the middle part of the device according to the invention can be kept so slim that comfortable handling is possible. Since the piercing mandrels form a rigid unit together with the sleeve, the two vessels together with the device according to the invention, when both vessels are made of solid material, constitute a unit that stands by itself. It is therefore not necessary in this case for the two vessels to be held by a person monitoring them during the transfer. If the closed system consists of a vessel and a bag, the bag must be the dispensing unit, it is of course necessary to hold the bag during the transfer or to attach it to a tripod.

The filter can be attached to the edge of the sleeve, for example, by an adhesive connection. If, as is preferred, the sleeve is made of a plastic that can be easily softened thermally, it is expedient to attach the filter by welding it to the plastic edge of the sleeve. The welding of a paper filter to the plastic edge of the sleeve by means of ultrasound is particularly preferred.

The device according to the invention is described in more detail below with reference to exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing.

According to a preferred embodiment, the device according to the invention can be designed as a double mandrel, i.e. the two piercing mandrels form a unit with one another which is penetrated by the two channels. Here, each of the two channels has an opening in the tip of one of the two puncture pins, the one having its opening in the tip that was pushed into the receiving vessel, the liquid transport and the other channel the outflow of the displaced air from the receiving into the dispensing vessel allows.

This embodiment in that variant with a filter attached on both sides is shown in FIG. 1. In this, 1 and 2 mean the piercing mandrels combined into a double mandrel, which are penetrated by the channels 3 and 4. Here, channel 3 ends on the one hand in the piercing mandrel 1, while the opposite mouth 7 ends in the flank of the piercing mandrel 2. The same applies to channel 4, which on the one hand opens into the piercing mandrel 2 and on the other hand has its mouth 6 in the flank of the piercing mandrel 1. 5 represents the sheathing of the two channels. The base plate 8 divides the double mandrel into two symmetrical halves. The double mandrel is surrounded by the sleeve 9, whose funnel-shaped ends outside the piercing mandrels 1 and 2 are closed on both sides by the filters 10 and 11. As a result, both parts of the double mandrel are enclosed in a gas-tight space separated from the other space, which is separated from the environment by the filter. The double mandrel can be made of steel, but preferably it is made of plastic. The sleeve 9 is advantageously made of plastic.

Another preferred embodiment of the present invention, likewise with a filter attached on both sides, is shown in FIG. Here, the two puncture pins 1 and 2 are assigned to two separate needles 12 and 13 which are arranged in parallel but offset, and which are designed as hollow needles, that is to say each surround one of the channels 3 and 4. The tip of each of the two needles 12 and 13, which acts as a piercing mandrel, projects beyond the other end of the needle, in which the orifices 6 and 7 are located. Preferably, both needles penetrate the base plate 8 very close to the center, in order to ensure that the stoppers of vessels with a narrow bottle neck can also be pierced by both needles. The two Ends of the sleeve 9 are closed with the filters 10 and 11. The two needles 12 and 13 are preferably made of steel, the sleeve 9 advantageously made of plastic.

If the dispensing vessel is emptied, it is withdrawn from the upward-pointing piercing mandrel of the device according to the invention, whereupon the connecting sleeve to an infusion device can be plugged onto this piercing mandrel.

It is expedient to provide an additional ventilation option for the vessels placed on the device, in order to be able to relax an underpressure present in both vessels with sterile air. For this purpose, as can be seen in FIG. 3, a ventilation channel 14 is arranged in the base plate 8, which on the one hand opens into the two channels 3 and 4 or into the hollow needles 12 and 13 and on the other hand into an opening 15 in the wall of the sleeve 9. The opening is widened in the shape of a collar to accommodate a filter capsule 16 with a filter membrane 17. The cross-sections of the mouth entrances into the channels 3 and 4 are small compared to them in order to avoid a liquid leakage through the ventilation channel 14.
