Description

The invention relates to a connector with a contact element for grounding and shielding made of an electrically conductive material in the form of a sleeve with a cylindrical shape, which has an upper segment with an outer contact area which is provided with a contact aid, and a lower segment. The contact element is intended for use in a conventional plug connection, as is used for power cables and data and control lines in communications, control, measurement and regulation technology.

Such a connector is already known from document GB-A-1 166 166.

Nowadays, cables are often provided with shields. Protective earthing is also mandatory for cables with a voltage of more than 42 V. The shielding or protective grounding in a plug connector is achieved in that when the cable passes through a conventional metallic plug connector, the shield or line is conductively connected to a contact sleeve present in the plug connector. The contact sleeve in turn is in conductive contact with the connector housing.

Conventional contact sleeves for connectors give rise to problems in two ways. On the one hand, these problems lie in the area of manufacturing technology; the contact sleeves are often complicated and require a relatively large number of operations for the production. On the other hand, problems often arise in the contact areas, which result in poor contact and / or corrosion or, for reasons of space, only poor contact between the contact sleeve and the body of the plug connection.

The invention has for its object to provide contact sleeves that are simple and inexpensive to manufacture and allow good fit and contact.

This goal is achieved according to the invention with a contact element of the type described in the introduction, in which the lower segment has a tongue-shaped connection area.

The contact element according to the invention is made in one piece and consists of an electrically conductive material. The contact element is preferably made from an electrically highly conductive metal, for example from copper, aluminum and alloys of copper or aluminum.

The contact element generally has the shape of a sleeve or a ring which can be used in the customary, commercially available plug connections, in particular in circular connectors, and are secured therein against undesired movement by their fit. The contact sleeve has a cylindrical shape for the circular connectors usually found on the market.

The contact sleeve consists of an upper segment with a contact area, via which contact is made with the metallic connector, and a lower segment with a connection area, to which the electrical line for grounding or the shielding is connected. The cable to be earthed or shielded is from below, ie from the Connection area side, brought up to the contact sleeve to be guided with the individual wires to the contact points of the connector.

The contact area is located in the upper segment of the contact sleeve and is provided with a contact aid, i.e. with a surface texture that promotes contact between the contact sleeve and plug connection. This is done by roughening at least part of the outer surface of the sleeve. The contact area preferably surrounds the sleeve at the lower end of the upper segment, but other arrangements are also possible, for example an annular arrangement at the upper end of the upper segment or in the form of vertical strip-shaped elevations which surround the upper segment at regular intervals. To promote contact - as a contact aid - the contact area can be designed as a knurl, cord or grain, so that the raised areas serve as contact points to the housing of the plug connection. It is also possible to equip the entire upper segment with a surface condition which promotes contact with the plug connection, for example with a grit.

The lower segment of the contact sleeve, which makes up about half the height of the entire sleeve body, has a connection area for grounding or shielding. This connection area is tongue-shaped so that the conductor can be attached to it by sliding on a conventional contact terminal or by soldering. The dimensions of the connecting tongue correspond to those of conventional contact terminals.

The connecting tongue is preferably formed by cuts in the lower segment, ie two cuts in the lower segment define the connecting tongue in terms of its width and length.

Alternatively, the entire lower segment of the contact sleeve can be designed as a connection area, i.e. the lower segment consists of a large part of the lower segment ring only from the connecting tongue. For manufacturing reasons, however, this embodiment is less preferred since the production requires more manufacturing steps.

In order to facilitate the fitting of the contact sleeve into the plug connection, the upper segment can be provided with an incision. This incision has a width of 1 to 3 mm, for example, and in one embodiment extends to the contact area. It can be arranged at any point on the contact sleeve. To compensate for tensions, the incision can be rounded at its lower end or open into a circular punched-out area which, for example, has a radius that corresponds to half to an entire incision width. According to a further embodiment, the contact sleeve has a slot or incision extending over the entire length. In this case, however, the slot or incision is not necessarily in the sleeve region which has the connecting tongue, but can be offset from the connecting tongue by 90 to 270 °.

Finally, in order to facilitate the soldering of the shielding or electrical line, the connecting tongue can have a perforation or punched-out section, which is preferably round or elliptical in the longitudinal direction of the tongue.

Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the contact element according to the invention in side elevation. The element, which is preferably made of a copper alloy, consists of a sleeve 1 with an upper segment (11) with the contact area (12) and a lower segment (13) with the connecting tongue (15). To adapt to a conventional round plug connection, the diameter of the lower segment is slightly smaller than that of the upper segment, so that a recess (18) is created. The resulting better fit enables better contact between the circular connector and the contact sleeve. Furthermore, the upper segment (11) is bent inwards at its upper end in order to better insert the element into the plug housing and guide the cable.

At the lower edge of the upper segment is the knurled contact aid (14), the corrugation of which enables better contact between the body of the connector and the contact sleeve.

The connecting tongue (15) is rounded at its lower end, which makes it easier to slide on a conventional contact clamp or contact shoe. The tongue (15) is defined laterally by the incisions (16a and 16b) in the lower segment. The elongated elliptical recess (17) is to facilitate the soldering of the electrical conductor if a soldered connection is desired.

Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment of the contact element according to the invention. According to this embodiment, the lower segment (13) consists only of the tongue (15) with the punched out (17); the cylindrical part of the lower segment shown in FIG. 1 was cut off.

Die Lochung oder Ausstanzung in dieser Ausführungsform ist kreisförmig.FIG. 3 shows a further embodiment, which largely corresponds to that shown in FIG. 1. Differences exist with regard to the shape and length of the tongue (15), which is made wider and less rounded and is therefore designed for a different form of contact clamp or contact shoe. The perforation or punching in this embodiment is circular.

Fig. 4 shows a variant of the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, in which the lower segment (13) is reduced to the tongue-shaped connection area (15).

Fig. 5 shows a circular connector (2) in a partially cut state with inserted contact sleeve (1). The circular connector (2) consists of a body (21) which is provided at its upper end with a union or coupling nut (22) and has an insertion screw connection (23) at its lower end, through which the cable is inserted into the connection and is fixed. The contact sleeve (1) is fitted into the interior of the body (21) with the aid of a socket (24). The socket (24) is screwed into the body (1) and serves as a socket for the insulating support of the contacts of the cable. The contact area (12), which is designed as a knurl (14), is in conductive contact with the metal frame (24) for the insulating support.

The cable to be inserted from below into the circular connector shown is conductively connected to it via the connecting tongue (15) of the sleeve (1); the individual wires of the cable leave the circular connector through the sleeve (1), the socket (24) for the insulating support and the screw connection (22) in order to be led to the individual contact points.

According to FIG. 6, the upper segment (11) is provided with a vertical incision from above, which ends shortly before the contact region (12) is reached. According to FIG. 7, the incision opens into a circular punching out; 8, the incision extends beyond the cutout X in the upper segment (11) and extends over the entire length of the sleeve; the sleeve is thus cut over its entire length.

Es versteht sich, daß sich der Kontaktbereich ringförmig um den gesamten Zylinder erstreckt.1 to 4, Y shows a section of the contact area of the contact element, which is designed as a knurl in all four cases. Alternatively, this contact area can also be designed as a cord or in the form of an irregular grain. It is understood that the contact area extends in a ring around the entire cylinder.

Fig. 9 shows a connector according to the invention in an overall view, the individual parts being shown pulled apart. The connector is assembled in such a way that the individual parts shown in FIG. 9 are pushed or screwed into one another in the order specified.

In Wirklichkeit stößt die Kontakthilfe 14 direkt gegen die Hülse 24.The individual electrically conductive bushings 25 of the connector are connected to electrical leads in a known manner. The connector is assembled so that the union nut 22 is first pushed over the socket 24, where it abuts a stop 24 '. The contact sleeve 1 is then pushed into the socket 24 from below in FIG. 9. The contact area 12 of the sleeve 1 comes into good electrical contact with the socket 24. This good electrical contact is not clearly shown in FIG. 5 in order to be able to distinguish the individual components from one another in the drawing. In reality, the contact aid 14 bumps directly against the sleeve 24.

The body 21 is then pushed over the sleeve 1 and screwed with its internal thread 21 'onto an external thread 24' 'of the sleeve 24. A stop 21 ″ of the body 21 presses the sleeve 1 against an electrically conductive stop (not shown in FIG. 5) of the socket 24, so that the socket 24, the sleeve 1 and the body 21 are in good electrical contact with one another.

Finally, a rubber ring 26 is pushed into the body 21 from below, the rubber ring 26 being covered on both sides by metallic rings 27, 28. A screw connection 23 is screwed from below into an internal thread 21 ″ ″, so that a line with a large number of electrical connectors can be inserted into the connector.
