Durch die Erhitzung dieser Pulverlackschicht wird der Härter aktiviert, so daß nach der Verteilung des Pulverlackmaterials dieses aushärtet und trocknet. Anschließend gelangt das Bandblech in eine Kühlstation 17, die ebenfalls als tunnelartige Durchlaufkammer ausgebildet ist. Hier wird das Bandblech mittels Luft, die aus Ausblasedüsen 18 austritt, gekühlt. Claims (13)

  1. Process for coating sheet metal strips wound on to a reel with a powder coating, the sheet metal strip being unwound from the reel and first pretreated and dried, characterised in that a free-flowing plasticised thermoset powder coating is applied directly to the moving sheet metal strip at a temperature below the reaction temperature of the hardener and is pressed on to the sheet metal strip and that the powder coating applied is then brought to a temperature above the reaction temperature of the hardener by the influence of heat and thus is liquefied and distributed in a uniform manner and hardened, after which the sheet metal strip is cooled and wound on to a reel.
  2. Process according to claim 1, characterised in that the powder coating is applied directly to the sheet metal strip by means of an extruder.
  3. Process according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the free-flowing powder coating applied is distributed over and pressed on to the sheet metal strip by rolling.
  4. Process according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the heat for liquefying and hardening the powder coating applied is applied by means of medium-wave infrared radiation.
  5. Process according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that a web of interleaving paper is also wound on when rolling up the coated sheet metal strip.
  6. Apparatus for carrying out the process according to one of claims 1 to 5, comprising a sheet metal strip holding and unwinding station (1), a pretreatment station (5), a drying station (8), a powder coating application station (11), a powder coating distribution and surface smoothing station (13), a cooling station (17) and a sheet metal strip winding station (4), characterised in that the powder coating application station has an extruder (11) for the thermoset powder coating with direct application of the plasticised powder coating to the sheet metal strip (3) by means of one or more nozzles (12), and that a subsequent treatment and hardening station (15) is provided between the powder coating distribution and surface smoothing station (13) and the cooling station (17).
  7. Apparatus according to claim 6, characterised in that squeezing rolls (7) for the removal of surface water are provided between the pretreatment station (5) and the drying station (8).
  8. Apparatus according to claim 6 or claim 7, characterised in that the pretreatment station (5) has a tunnel-type chamber with spray nozzles (6) which can be connected selectively to a source with cleaning or treatment liquid and a source with rinsing liquid.
  9. Apparatus according to one of claims 6 to 8, characterised in that the drying station (8) has a tunnel-type chamber with infrared radiators (9) and air-blowing nozzles (10).
  10. Apparatus according to one of claims 6 to 9, characterised in that the extruder (11) has a flat sheeting nozzle (12) which opens directly above the moving sheet metal strip (3).
  11. Apparatus according to one of claims 6 to 9, characterised in that the extruder (11) has a plurality of nozzles arranged alongside one another and opening directly above the moving sheet metal strip (3).
  12. Apparatus according to one of claims 6 to 11, characterised in that the powder coating distribution and surface smoothing station (13) has at least one pair of rolls (14), in which the rolls are pressed against the sheet metal strip (3) on either side opposite one another.
  13. Apparatus according to one of claims 6 to 12, characterised in that the subsequent treatment and hardening station (15) has a tunnel-type chamber with infrared radiators (16).
