Description

There are several types of requirements that a quality table tennis table must meet. It must first offer a flat upper surface. The dimensions of such a tray are of the order of 140 x 150 cm, which implies using a material sufficiently rigid in itself so that it does not warp under its own weight when it rests on its feet, or to equip the underside of the tray with a stiffening frame or finally, as is most often the case, to achieve a compromise between the two.

The plate must also allow a good rebound of the ball. This rebound depends on many factors which are due in particular to the surface condition of the table top (more or less tender nature of the coating, its roughness, etc.) and also to the mass presented by the portion of the table concerned by the impact. In fact, the denser a plateau, the better the rebound for a given ball.

Other requirements arise from the use for which the table is intended. So, if the table is transportable, it should be as light as possible. Furthermore, if it is intended for outdoor use, it must be able to withstand, without temporary or permanent deformation, variations in the humidity of the air or its temperature.

Also the most difficult table tennis table to build, since it must meet all of the requirements set out above, is a mobile table that can stay outdoors for a long time.

None of the known solutions gives full satisfaction. For the record, we will only mention the concrete outdoor tables, since they are permanently fixed to the ground, although they have a table that is non-deformable and offer excellent rebound qualities to the ball. The other tables include those with wooden trays or synthetic products (agglomerated) from wood which are relatively heavy and are very sensitive to the humidity of the atmosphere, which generates undesirable deformations. There are also metal tables in which the tray is constituted by a composite flat product comprising a plastic material sandwiched between two aluminum sheets and the stiffness of which is ensured by a backward folding of the edges of the sheet on at least three sides. . Although the plate is not subject to deformation because the expansions of the two metal sheets are substantially identical, the intermediate plastic material transmitting heat well, this plate does not have the qualities of density and stiffness on the surface required to ensure an acceptable rebound of the ball. Another metal table is also known in which an upper sheet forming a playing surface is associated with a lower sheet which has stamped shapes in the form of cups intended to stiffen it. The upper sheet is linked to the outside face of the cup bottoms by an agent sandwiched between them, this agent being a poor conductor of heat and sensitive to humidity. The dimensional stability of such a table is not satisfactory and, moreover, it has heterogeneities in its thickness such that the qualities of the rebound are very variable depending on the location of the impact of the ball. In addition, the price of this table places it at the top of the range of outdoor tables, which are already more expensive than indoor tables.

The present invention intends to propose a table tennis table which optimally meets the requirements required for a good quality mobile table which can remain without any particular precautions outside.

To this end, the subject of the invention is therefore a tray for a table tennis table, intended to be associated with a base and constituted by a thin panel and by a rigid metallic structure in the form of a frame at least. partial and fixed to one of the faces of the panel along at least three of its sides by means of a flexible adhesive material.

A thin panel, that is to say less than 15 millimeters has the advantage of being light compared to known panels. It involves associating it with a stiffening structure on the one hand to make it flat, because in the dimensions considered, its flatness cannot be guaranteed to be produced, and on the other hand to keep it flat. To take into account the differences in the expansion coefficient of the panel and the reinforcement, the use of a flexible adhesive as a fixing means allows the two elements to play relative to each other without creating deformation, despite the small thickness of the panel.

Preferably, the structure is a complete frame whose cross member located under the edge of the panel forming the middle part of the standing table, is of reduced thickness.

  • la figure 1 est une représentation d'un coin de plateau, vu de dessous, conforme à l'invention;
  • la figure 2 illustre par une même vue une variante de réalisation;
The invention will be better understood from the description given below of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • Figure 1 is a representation of a tray corner, seen from below, according to the invention;
  • Figure 2 illustrates in a single view an alternative embodiment;
  • Figures 3 and 4 are two sections along planes III-III and IV-IV of Figure 2.

In Figure 1, there is shown a corner of the panel 1 according to the invention and more specifically the corner that forms one of the side edges 2 of the table with the edge 3 of the panel which, the table assembled, is in the middle zone of this table, substantially under the net. The corner of the panel is shown turned over so that we can see its association with the frame 4 which, in its entirety, forms a frame associated with the panel by being glued to its underside 5 by means of a double adhesive tape. side 6 inserted between the frame 4 and the face 5.

The panel 1 is made of a material known in itself which consists of a core comprising a plurality of superimposed sheets of kraft paper impregnated with a phenolic resin and two sheets of cover of kraft paper, also dyed in the mass and impregnated with a melamine resin, the whole being hardened or polymerized under pressure to form a laminated panel. This product has many properties, some of which are interesting for its use as a table tennis table. First of all it is a dense and stiff product which has a sufficiently polished surface to give a ball a good quality rebound even under a small thickness (of the order of 6 millimeters). The quality of the rebound will be all the better as the thickness is increased. It is therefore possible to have, in small thicknesses, a light panel providing an acceptable rebound.

In addition, this product is completely chemically inert and has very high dimensional stability with regard to variations in humidity and temperature.

However, the disadvantage of this product lies in the fact that one cannot guarantee its flatness at the end of its manufacture. Its use for a tennis table could not be envisaged, without an adaptation or a treatment of the material to give it the required flatness.

According to the invention, the means of making such a panel planar resides in a metal frame-shaped frame. This frame can be obtained by folding sheet metal, or be tubular.

The upright 7 of the frame visible in the figure is in the form of a sheet metal box folded in C. The frame can be complete, that is to say have four sides, or open then comprising only three sides, the side missing being that located to the right of edge 3 of the panel. The classic binding of a reinforcement under a panel implies the implementation of particular means which must not protrude above the playing surface, which imposes a significant thickness of the panel to have a sufficient anchoring length for the screws fixing and consequently increases the weight of the panel. As, moreover, the expansion coefficients of the panel and of the frame are different, a variation in temperature causes warping of the plate rigidly fixed to the frame.

The fixing according to the invention by double-sided adhesive tape 6 made it possible to remove these obstacles. Indeed, the quality of the fixing no longer depends on the thickness of the panel which can be as thin as six millimeters. It is understood that, in this respect, the thinner the panel and the less the efforts to develop to keep it flat. The adhesive attachment therefore makes it possible to lighten the support structure and the weight gain takes place on the two components, panel and structure. In addition, the adhesive tape is a flexible and deformable material which allows a slight relative movement between panel and structure which is favorable to compensate for the effects of expansion or retraction of different amplitudes between structure and panel.

It will be advantageous to provide an armature whose outline is identical, for three sides, to the outline of the panel so that the external lateral flanks such as 8, uprights 7 of the structure are substantially in the plane of the corresponding edges 2 of the panel. The width of the ribbon 6 will be slightly less than the width of the uprights 7 so as not to overflow or touch the plane containing the edges and the sides. This arrangement makes it possible to avoid manipulation of the plate (in particular if it is used in a folding table) by gripping the only panel which could cause excessive stresses on the adhesive.

Note that the frame forming the structure of stiffening of the panel can be closed on its fourth side (to the right of the edge 3) by a cross member 9 of thickness thinner than the thickness of the other uprights. In the drawing, this crosspiece is connected to the panel by an adhesive tape 6 and to the ends of the uprights of the frame (for example by means of rivets 10 coupling it to a wing in return 11 of the upright). The cross member 9 is set back relative to the edge 3 because the lateral uprights such as 7 are shortened to allow the pinching on the edge of the plate of the net support members. The cross member 9 is of reduced thickness so as not to prevent the folding down of some of the feet articulated to the frame so that they extend parallel to the plate in the folded position. The arrangements of articulations of the base to the frame of the tray are known in themselves.

Figures 2 to 4 show an alternative embodiment of Figure 1 in which we find some of the elements already described with the same references.

This return is connected to the end cross member of the frame by a secondary longitudinal upright 13 parallel to the upright 7. Thus, on each side of the plate, two secondary frames are formed, the inner sides 13 of which can serve as a fixing frame and / or articulation for the base of the table. The return 12 as the secondary upright 13 will also be fixed to the panel 1 by a double-sided adhesive tape 6. The cross-member 9 is in this case fixed by riveting to the return 12 and to the panel by an adhesive tape 6.

On voit sur la figure 4 un pied 14 articulé sur le montant secondaire 13 de l'armature rabattu le long de la face interne 5 du panneau 1 et parallèlement à cette dernière grâce à la faible hauteur de la traverse 9.FIG. 4 shows a foot 14 articulated on the secondary upright 13 of the frame folded down along the internal face 5 of the panel 1 and parallel to the latter thanks to the low height of the cross-member 9.

On citera les bétons d'amiante, les résines chargées, les structures stratifiées...The invention is not limited to the materials described in the embodiment described above. In particular, instead of a double-sided adhesive tape, an adhesive can be used which retains a certain flexibility in the final state. They may, for example, be adhesives known commercially under the name of LOCTITE 326 or 380 (cyanoacrylate adhesive) or SILICOMET. Furthermore, the plate can be made of any synthetic material which can be manufactured in a thin, rot-proof plate and having mechanical surface qualities capable of obtaining an acceptable rebound for a table tennis ball. These include asbestos concrete, loaded resins, laminated structures ...
