Um den Verlauf einer Erdbohrung oder eines in das Erdreich vordringenden Rohres während des Vortriebs kontrollieren zu können, ist es bekannt, Meßvorrichtungen am vorderen Ende eines Rammbohrgerätes oder des in das Erdreich einzutreibenden Rohres anzuordnen. Etwaige Rich­tungsabweichungen lassen sich von der Meßvorrichtung re­gistrieren und über elektrische Anschlußleitungen zu einem Schaltpult übertragen. Bei Rammbohrgeräten mit einer steu­erbaren Schlagspitze kann die Bedienungsperson bei von ei­ner linearen Vortriebsrichtung abweichendem Verlauf entspre­chende Richtungs-Korrekturen vom Schaltpult aus veranlas­sen, beispielsweise über hydraulische oder pneumatische, von einer Druckmittelquelle außerhalb des Erdkanals zur Schlagspitze geführte Leitungen. Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß durch zumindest einen mantelfesten Längskanal gelöst. Vorzugsweise kann der Längs­kanal aus einer im Mantel angeordneten Bohrung bestehen. Der Längskanal kann auch in einem Mantelwulst verlaufen. In dem Längskanal lassen sich entweder die zum Kopfende führen­den Versorgungsanschlüsse nach außen geschützt unterbringen oder es läßt sich der Längskanal selbst als Druckmittellei­tung verwenden. Letzteres bietet sich insbesondere für steuerbare Rammbohrgeräte an, bei denen sich vom rückwärti­gen Ende bis zur Schlagspitze bzw. den im Gerätegehäuse angeordneten Steuerelementen führende Bohrungen durch das Gehäuse erstrecken können. Es ist jedoch gleich, ob der Längskanal bzw. die Längsbohrung selbst als Druckmittellei­tung verwendet oder Kabel und Leitungen hindurchgeführt werden; auf jeden Fall liegen keine Leitungen, Kabel etc. ungeschützt außerhalb des Geräts bzw. des Vortriebsrohrs. Die Längskanäle bieten allerdings auch noch andere Einsatz­möglichkeiten; beispielsweise kann eine Emulsion zur Ver­ringerung der Mantelreibung oder zur Stabilisierung der Erdbohrung hindurch gepumpt werden.
