Description

The invention relates to a sewing device with a sewing machine, which is adjustably mounted on a base frame in two mutually perpendicular directions.

In a sewing device of the aforementioned type known from DD-PS 53 544, the sewing machine is mounted displaceably on a crossbar to its longitudinal direction. The crossbar is movably supported on its two longitudinal ends on two rails which run perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the crossbar. The sewing machine can thus be moved in the plane spanned by the two directions of movement. At the same time, the sewing machine is pivotally mounted on the cross-beam about an axis running through the needle axis, so that it can always adjust tangentially to the curvature of a seam to be sewn.

A disadvantage of this arrangement is that only the space between the rails is available for the workpiece and the devices holding the workpiece, the distance between the rails being fixed. As a result, the sewing device can essentially only be used for one purpose. Any other task also requires a redesign of the frame supporting the sewing machine. For each new task, therefore, a special production is required, which drives up the price for such sewing devices considerably.

The invention has for its object to provide a sewing device of the type mentioned, which with relatively minor and easy to carry out adaptation measures for different purposes, i.e. can be used for differently shaped workpieces and different seam courses.

This object is achieved in that the sewing machine is arranged at one end of a horizontal support arm which is slidably guided on a vertical column parallel to its longitudinal direction, and that the column is on a carriage which is perpendicular to the direction of displacement of the support arm on the base frame is guided.

The arrangement of the sewing machine according to the invention has the advantage that the sewing machine is completely freely accessible from one side. Workpiece holders of any shape and size can be installed or inserted between the support arm and the base frame supporting the column. The sewing machine can sew up to a distance measured from the sewing material edge, which is predetermined by the clear opening of the sewing machine housing, with any course and any direction Sew the device by moving the column along the workpiece or adjusting the support arm on the column. The same unit consisting of the base frame, the column, the support arm and the sewing machine can be expanded to different machines by adding different workpiece holders.

The versatility of the sewing device according to the invention can be significantly increased if the sewing machine is rotatably mounted on the support arm about an axis of rotation extending through the needle axis. A rotatable mounting of the sewing machine about an axis running through the needle axis is already known from DD-PS 53 544. However, the sewing machine can only be pivoted there by a limited angle with respect to the crossbar. Swiveling beyond this angle is precluded by the mounting of the sewing machine which enables the movement on the crossbar. Thanks to the arrangement of the sewing machine according to the invention at the free end of the support arm, there is nothing that could hinder the rotatability of the sewing machine, so that it can possibly be rotated through 360 °. As a result, the machine can, for example, always be set so that it moves around all the edges of a workpiece without it having to be moved, provided that the workpiece does not protrude beyond the range of movement of the sewing machine, which is predetermined by the displacement path of the column and the displacement path of the support arm.

According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the sewing machine is provided with a cutting device which has a knife which is arranged directly next to the needle and can be actuated synchronously with it. The fact that the sewing machine is always in the desired direction of sewing can be set, it is now also possible to cut the workpiece parallel to the seam. This not only eliminates the need for a separate trimming process, but also ensures that the seam is precisely spaced from the cut edge.

The sewing device shown in Figure 1 comprises a base frame 10 with an essentially rectangular frame 12 which rests on feet 14. The frame 12 carries two to each other parallel rails 16, on which a carriage 18 is slidably guided by means of suitable bearings, not shown. The carriage is driven by means of a motor 20 fastened to the underside of the carriage, the drive pinion 22 of which meshes with a rack 24 arranged on the frame 12 and directed parallel to the rails 16.

The carriage 18 carries a column 26 consisting of a rectangular profile. At the upper end of the column 26, guide rods 30 are arranged between side flanges 28 and parallel to the column 26, on which a support carriage 34 is guided in a vertically adjustable manner by means of guide bushings 32 (FIG. 2) . The vertical adjustment of the slide 34 takes place with the aid of a working cylinder 36 which is supported on a column 38 fixed to the column.

On the support carriage 34 there is an elongated support arm 40 in the direction of the double arrow B, i.e. guided horizontally displaceably perpendicular to the direction of displacement of the carriage 18, the guidance being able to take place in any suitable manner and is only symbolically indicated in FIG. 2 by a dovetail guide 42. The adjustment of the support arm in the direction of the double arrow B takes place with the aid of a motor 44 fastened to the support slide 34, the drive pinion 46 of which meshes with a rack 48 directed at the support arm 40 and parallel to its longitudinal direction.

The support arm 40 carries at its one free end a sewing machine which is attached to the support arm 40 with its upper side hanging.

A workpiece support 54 is also fastened to the base frame 10 by means of a support 52. The workpiece support 54 contains a slot 56 which is intended for the passage of the needle and corresponds to the course of the seam. This slot serves only for the passage of the needle, not for guiding the sewing machine. However, this carries on the needle plate a projection 58 which faces the needle and engages in the slot 56 during the sewing process in order to prevent the fabric part to be sewn from being pressed into the slot 56 by the needle. In order to bring the sewing machine 50 into the sewing position in the present example, it must first be adjusted in the direction of the workpiece support 54 and then raised slightly so that the projection 58 dips into the slot 56. The movement of the sewing machine 50 along the slot 56 then takes place by a displacement of the carriage 18 on the rails 16 on the one hand and a displacement of the support arm 40 on the column 26 on the other hand. Both movements are controlled by an electronic control device 58 schematically indicated in FIG. 1.

From the previous description it can be seen that the unit consisting of the base frame 10, the column 26, the support arm 40 and the sewing machine 50 can be combined with workpiece holders or workpiece supports of any size and shape. In this way, a basic unit is obtained which can be varied without great effort according to the special customer requirements.

A modified embodiment is shown in FIG. 4, for example, the same parts being provided with the same reference numerals. The embodiment shown in Figure 4 differs from the embodiment 1 in that the sewing machine 50 is rotatably mounted on the free end of the support arm 40 about an axis extending through the needle axis. The stub shaft 60, which carries the sewing machine 50 and is supported in the support arm 40, is fastened to the top of the sewing machine housing and carries at its free end a gear wheel 62 which meshes with the drive pinion 64 of an electric motor 66, which in turn is connected to the support arm 40 via a holder 68 is attached. The sewing machine 50 can thus be rotated through 360 ° if necessary. This makes it possible, for example, to first sew on a workpiece by moving the carriage 18 parallel to an edge of the workpiece and then, after rotation of the sewing machine 50 about its axis, by sewing the support arm 40 to sew along another edge of the workpiece.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, the sewing machine 50 also carries a cutting device 70, indicated only schematically, with a knife 72, which can be moved up and down synchronously with the needle 76 of the sewing machine via a parallelogram linkage 74 and thus cuts through the workpiece to be sewn parallel to the sewn seam . When the sewing machine rotates, the knife 72 is raised so that it does not hinder the rotation of the sewing machine about the needle axis. This ensures a parallel cut at a defined distance from the seam without any further work.

The workpiece carrier 78 can also have more than the two workpiece support surfaces 80 shown contain. This arrangement not only makes it possible to avoid the idle times required by placing, aligning and clamping the workpieces, but also under certain circumstances allows the workpieces to be fed and removed automatically, since space is now also available to set up appropriate feed or discharge devices who do not hinder the sewing device itself.
