Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a bullet for reduced-fire ammunition made of plastic material and its manufacturing process.
  • the field of application of the invention relates more particularly to small caliber reduced shooting (5.56 for example), for instruction or close combat, taking into account the range limitation required for the ball.
  • the patent FR-A-1 283 766 describes a shell type projectile consisting of a plastic material envelope provided with a ring playing the role of belt. This ring does not play any role on the ballistic parameters of the projectile which moreover is not a bullet.
  • Patent DE-A-2,025,163 describes a bullet equipped with a destructible belt at the exit of the barrel because of its very nature. This belt has no influence on the ballistic parameters of the ball.
  • BALPLAST Some, marketed under the name BALPLAST, are based on plastic material of the polyamide type with a density close to 1, overmolded on a metal belt made, for example, of copper, brass or tombac.
  • This metal belt has a double function.
  • this belt has the role of ballasting the ball in order to make it more stable on its trajectory.
  • this metal belt is capable of coming off the plastic material, as a result of a connection defect, in particular in rotation, which can cause destabilization of the trajectory of the ball. Fragmentation can also be caused when firing due to the heterogeneity of the bullet.
  • the accuracy of the shot can be affected by the lack of concentricity of the belt and the body of the bullet.
  • the belt must be previously produced with precision, and its positioning in the mold before injection molding must also be precise, these operations requiring numerous manipulations.
  • Another disadvantage is that its cost remains high due to the exclusive use of an expensive charged plastic material.
  • the object of the invention is to propose bullets made of plastic material intended for reduced shooting or close combat which are of reliable ballistic characteristics and adjustable over a wide range for these types of jobs, and the method of production of which ensures good reproducibility and low production cost.
  • these ballistic characteristics are obtained easily and at low cost by varying the geometry of the ball, its center of gravity, its density and its moments of inertia longitudinal and transverse and consequently the ratio of the latter.
  • the subject of the invention is a bullet for reduced fire ammunition comprising a body of low density plastic material and a guide belt of higher density, characterized in that it consists of a solid body of plastic material equipped with '' a belt made of plastic material loaded with solid particles and containing panicles of a lubricant, the composition of the constituent materials of the body and of the belt as well as the body / belt combination being such that the belt does not break after the shooting of said bullet.
  • the body of the ball is made of plastic material with a density close to 1.
  • the belt made of plastic material loaded with solid particles has a density between 2 and 6 and preferably close to 4.
  • the solid particles are made of metal such as copper or lead, of an alloy such as bronze or of metal oxide such as lead oxide. They are preferably made up of bronze balls with a diameter of between 0.01 and 0.1 mm.
  • the plastic material loaded with the belt also contains a solid lubricant. This is preferably molybdenum disulfide.
  • the parameters influencing the ballistic characteristics of the ball can be adjusted according to the intended use by varying the geometry of the belt (height, thickness, positioning relative to the body of the ball), as well as the nature and composition of the materials. constitutive of the body and the belt.
  • the presence of solid particles in the belt makes it possible to ballast the plastic material and to obtain the desired density for the bale by varying the content of solid particles.
  • This density can vary over a wide range from 1.2 to 5, and preferably from 2 to 3.
  • a perfect bond between the plastic material of the body of the ball and the belt is ensured thanks to the manufacturing process, in particular by reflow on the surface of the belt during the injection of the body and / or by devices making it possible to increase the surfaces in contact (grooves, grooves, for example).
  • the crimping of the sleeve is carried out in a known manner above the belt, while the invention allows crimping on the belt with a range of freedom on its positioning. , and therefore on the dimensions of the socket.
  • the resulting ball is therefore perfectly reproducible and has reliable ballistic characteristics.
  • the balls can have different known shapes, such as conical, ogival, with flats, with shoulder of the ogival part.
  • Figure 1 schematically shows the longitudinal section of a 5.56 caliber bullet whose body 1 with a length of 14.5 mm has a pointed ogival end and whose belt 2 is positioned 3 mm from the base.
  • This frustoconical interior section belt slightly flared upwards with an opening angle of 3 degrees has an average thickness of 1.7 mm and an average height of 6 mm.
  • the body is made of a polyamide with the commercial name RILSAN as defined above.
  • the belt is made of a plastic material identical to that of the body, loaded with bronze balls with a diameter between 0.01 and 0.1 mm and containing a solid lubricant consisting of molybdenum disulfide. Its density and 4.
  • Figure 2 differs from Figure 1 in the geometry of the belt. It is also of frustoconical interior section slightly flared upwards with an opening angle of 3 degrees, with an average thickness of 1.7 mm but its height is 8.5 mm.
  • the density of this ball is 2.68.
  • the balls can have other geometric characteristics and other compositions without departing from the scope of the invention.
  • biinjecting presses are used provided with a multi-cavity rotary mold making it possible to mold, for example, 8 bales simultaneously.
  • the molding of the body is done in masked time, compared to the injection of the belt. Indeed, it is performed while the injection of the belt is not finished. Therefore, the manufacturing time is not the sum of the durations of these two operations, but the duration of the longest of these.
  • the quantity of charged plastic material required is much lower (for example by a third) than that used for the manufacture of the ball forming the object of the above-mentioned patent FR-B-2 528 564.
