Description

The present invention relates to a device for attaching a boot to a cross-country ski.

A cross-country binding includes a stop ensuring the blocking of the front end of the boot on the ski, while leaving the heel free, which allows the skier to take off the heels relative to the skis to achieve the movement of advance of these.

To allow this pivoting of the shoe while benefiting from a good rigidity of the sole thereof, it is known from document EP-A-0167462 to produce a binding comprising a stirrup the central part of which is articulated on a axis transverse to the ski, and the branches of which are shaped to allow the interlocking of a complementary part formed at the front end of the boot. This stirrup is itself equipped with means for immobilizing the boot.

However, the locking device described in this document is relatively impractical to implement, since it requires manual intervention both for closing and for opening the binding.

The present invention aims to provide a fastening device of this type, comprising improved locking means.

To this end, the fastening device that it relates to, of the type comprising a stirrup, the central part of which is articulated on an axis transverse to the ski, and the branches of which are shaped to allow the fitting of a complementary part arranged the front end of the shoe, this stirrup being furthermore equipped with means for immobilizing the front end of the shoe, is characterized in that these means of immobilization consist of:
  • - by a locking lever pivotally mounted on the stirrup about an axis transverse to the ski, between a closed position in which a part of the lever is supported on the upper face of the front end of the boot and a position d '' opening in which the lever leaves free access to the stirrup,
  • - By a trigger pivotally mounted on the locking lever around an axis transverse to the ski, comprising two cams coming into contact with the front edges of the stirrup forming ramps whose profile is such that when the trigger is tilted towards the before the locking lever is in the open position and when the trigger is tilted backwards the locking lever is in the closed position,
  • - And by elastic means connecting the stirrup and the lever and acting on it in a closing direction, in a plane passing substantially through the axis of articulation of the trigger on the lever and on both sides which are the points of contact between the trigger and the stirrup, respectively in the open position and in the closed position.

The movements of opening and closing of the binding are obtained by action on the only trigger, the tilting forwards or backwards causes the lever to tilt to its open position or its closed position respectively. These movements are carried out very easily, without the assembly being able to remain in an intermediate stable state, since when the trigger is actuated in one direction, it automatically continues its movement until the end of the race, under the action of elastic means, as soon as the support points of the trigger on the stirrup have passed to the other side of the action plan of the elastic means, relative to the side on which they were initially.

Advantageously, the trigger is equipped at its lower end with at least one finger turned towards the rear and intended to come to bear under the front end of the part of the shoe which fits into the stirrup.

When the front end of the shoe is fitted into the stirrup, the latter bears on the trigger finger, causing the latter to pivot backwards, and consequently the lever to pivot towards its locking position under the joint action of elastic means. This binding is therefore self-fitting. To unlock the lever, simply rotate the trigger forward by hand or with the tip of a ski pole, movement accompanied by a pivoting of the lever to its position d opening, and an upward movement of the finger secured to the trigger, which lifts the front part of the shoe and facilitates its exit from the stirrup.

According to one embodiment of this device, the locking lever has a general U shape, the branches of which are each articulated on a branch of the stirrup, and the central part of which forms a bearing surface on the upper face of the front part of the shoe.

Preferably, the bearing surface of the lever on the upper face of the front part of the shoe is in the form of a surface section. cylindrical with transverse axis to the ski.

This characteristic ensuring a support of the lever on the shoe according to a generatrix of a cylindrical surface, provides an excellent locking, whatever the inclination of the upper support face of the shoe, all the more that the device ensures a compensation for the thickness of the sole of the shoe by a more or less significant tilting of the lever.

According to another embodiment of this device, it is, conversely, the bearing surface of the front of the boot which has a cylindrical surface section of axis transverse to the ski and cooperates with a lever whose the support surface is flat. This feature will provide the same benefits as described above.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the front end of the lever comprises two wings delimiting with the central part of the lever a yoke used for mounting the hinge pin of the trigger.

In accordance with a first possibility, the elastic means consist of a piece of synthetic material having a general shape of U, the ends of the branches of which are articulated on the wings of the stirrup around an axis transverse to the ski, and of which the central part is supported on the front face of the lever at the trigger hinge pin thereon.

According to another possibility, the elastic means consist of two strips of synthetic material arranged parallel to the axis of the ski, the ends of which are fixed on the one hand to the stirrup and on the other hand to the lever.

According to a preferred embodiment, the trigger comprises a single control finger disposed on the longitudinal axis of the ski and intended to penetrate into a recess provided for this purpose in the underside of the front end of the boot. The choice of the depth of this recess makes it possible to adjust the offsets at the opening and at the closing between the actuation of the trigger and the movement of fitting the shoe.

It results from the structure of this device, and in particular from the substantially horizontal arrangement of the elastic means, a great compactness in particular in the height direction.

  • Figure 1 est une vue en perspective d'un premier dispositif en position ouverte;
  • Figure 2 en est une vue de dessus;
  • Figures 3 et 4 sont deux vues de côté, partiellement en coupe, de ce dispositif, respectivement, en position ouverte et en position de verrouillage d'une chaussure;
In any case, the invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the description which follows with reference to the appended schematic drawing representing, by way of nonlimiting examples, two embodiments of this device for attaching a boot to a cross-country ski:
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first device in the open position;
  • Figure 2 is a top view;
  • Figures 3 and 4 are two side views, partially in section, of this device, respectively, in the open position and in the locking position of a shoe;
  • Figures 5 and 6 are two views in the open position of a variant of this device, respectively, in perspective and from the side.

This device comprises a stirrup 5 comprising a central part parallel to the plane of the ski and two branches 6 which are perpendicular serving thereon, on the one hand for mounting the axis 4 and, on the other hand for fixing the boot. To this end, the branches 6 have, on their opposite faces, two ribs 7 of generally vertical orientation when the stop is at rest, these ribs serving to fit complementary grooves 8 formed at the front end 9 of the sole of a shoe 10.

On the branches 6 of the stirrup 5, are articulated about an axis 12 transverse to the ski, the branches 13 of a lever 14 in the general shape of U whose central part has a bearing surface on the upper face 16 of the front part 9 of the shoe, in the form of a section of cylindrical surface 15.

The front end of the lever 14 comprises two parallel wings 17, facing forwards, used for mounting, transversely to the ski, an axis of rotation 18 of a trigger 19. This trigger 19 comprises two cams 20 facing towards rear, bearing against the front edges 22 of the two branches of the stirrup, which form guide ramps. The length of the cams 20 and the profile of the edges 22 are such that, when the trigger 19 is tilted forward, it drives the lever 14 in the open position and that when the trigger 19 is tilted back, it drives the lever 14 to its closed position.

The trigger is equipped, in its central part and at its lower end, with a finger 23 turned towards the rear. This finger is intended, when attaching the boot to the ski, to come to bear in the bottom of a recess 24 opening into the underside of the front end 9 of the boot.

In the device shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, the elastic means consist of a plastic part 25 in the general shape of a U, the ends of the arms 26 of which are mounted on the arms 6 of the stirrup with the possibility of pivoting around an axis 27 transverse to the ski, and the central part 28 of which bears on the lever 14 at the level of the articulation axis 18 of the trigger 19 on the latter. The axis 27 is arranged so that the plane of action of the elastic means is located between the contact points of the cams 20 on the ramps 22 of the stirrup, respectively, in the open and closed position of the binding.

The operation of this device is as follows.

To secure a boot 10 on the ski, the user need only present his boot above the device which is in the open position as shown in FIG. 3. The boot is then moved up and down. bottom to achieve the engagement of the grooves 8 on the ribs 7 of the stirrup 5, movement during which the front end of the shoe is supported on the finger 23 of the trigger 19. This support causes a rearward tilting of the trigger 19 and, consequently, of the locking lever 14, this movement being favored by the action of the elastic means 25 as soon as the fulcrum of the cams 20 on the ramps 22 has passed on the other side of the plane of action of elastic means. These are the elastic means which maintain the locking position of the device, shown in FIG. 4, this locking being obtained by pressing the cylindrical surface 15 of the lever 14 against the upper face 16 of the front part of the shoe.

To separate the boot from the ski, the user just has to tilt the trigger forward, for example by pressing the tip of a ski pole in a recess 29 made on the trigger 19. The pivoting of the trigger 19 results in the pivoting of the lever 14 towards its open position as well as in a pivoting of the finger 23 upwards, which thus ejects the shoe from the binding. The end of this movement is favored by the passage on the other side of the action plan of the elastic means, which also ensure that the device is kept in the open position.

Les figures 5 et 6 représentent une variante de réalisation de ce dispositif dans laquelle les mêmes éléments sont désignés par les mêmes références que précédemment, la seule différence résidant dans le fait que les moyens élastiques sont constitués non pas par une pièce en forme d'étrier ceinturant la partie avant du levier de verrouillage, mais par deux bandes de matière synthétique 30 disposées parallèlement à l'axe du ski, dont les extrémités sont fixées, d'une part sur les branches 6 de l'étrier 5 et, d'autre part sur les branches 13 du levier 14.Figures 5 and 6 show an alternative embodiment of this device in which the same elements are designated by the same references as above, the only difference residing in the fact that the elastic means are constituted not by a stirrup-shaped part encircling the front part of the locking lever, but by two strips of synthetic material 30 arranged parallel to the axis of the ski, the ends of which are fixed, on the one hand to the arms 6 of the stirrup 5 and, on the other hand to the arms 13 of the lever 14.

The operation of this device is exactly the same as that of the device described above.

As is clear from the above, the invention brings a great improvement to the existing technique by providing a device for attaching a boot to a ski, of simple design, with great compactness and very practical use, since allowing an automatic putting on and an ejection of the shoe during the heaving.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiments of this device, described above by way of examples; on the contrary, it embraces all of its variant embodiments. Thus, in particular, this device could be mounted not on a ski with a longitudinal rib but on a ski of rectangular section, or even that the trigger could comprise not a central control finger, but two lateral control fingers without the 'We therefore go beyond the scope of the invention.

Thus the elastic means 25 could be constituted by a torsion bar playing at the same time the role of axis 12, or by a pin spring acting between the lever 14 and the stirrup 5, or by any other mechanically known means.
