Abstract

A cinch plug for connection to an electrical cable in audio or video systems has a contact pin and surrounding contact bushing each of which are formed of curved circumferentially disposed axially extending contact springs.

Description

The invention relates to a cinch connector for connection to at least one of the two ends of a cable for signal transmission to or from or between individual components (components) of audio / video devices, with a central contact pin, the contact points of which are radially resilient are and a coaxial, also radially resilient contact points having contact socket.

In known cinch plugs of this type (WO-A-86 03 985), the contact pins are solid and slotted by slots placed in two axial planes enclosing a right angle and thus comprise four to a limited extent laterally resilient, ie relatively stiff pin parts. The contact sockets consist of a simple, analog slotted, approximately cylindrical contact material turned part, which despite slotting comprises much stiffer elements. In practice, the fact that the contact resistances are usually too high has proven to be disadvantageous, particularly in cases where more frequent plug-in operations take place, for example for test purposes are that impair the signal transmission or falsify the test result. In addition, when such cinch plugs are inserted into the device-side connection sockets or when the plugs are removed, very high forces often have to be exerted, which has proven to be annoying in the course of device testing work and often in the case of violent handling of such cinch plugs by laypersons to devices or plugs - Damage gives rise.

The invention has for its object to further develop the cinch connector of the type mentioned in a simple inexpensive manner so that it allows a convenient establishment or disconnection of a connector and still ensures a minimal contact resistance.

The cinch plug according to the invention, in which this object is achieved, is characterized in that the contact pin and / or the contact socket comprise a plurality of contact springs which are distributed over the circumference and are formed by contact spring wire sections which are arched towards the mating contact. The invention is thus based on the knowledge that the possibility of using the properties of wire-spring contacts, as they have been known for half a century, is given in cinch plugs and that full compatibility with the parts on the market is ensured, so that they too can easily be used with existing systems.

Particularly favorable plug-in conditions - very low plug-in forces and nevertheless low contact resistance and long service life - are of course guaranteed if both the contact pin and the contact socket are each equipped with a large number of contact springs.

It has been found to be very cheap in terms of production technology for a cinch plug, in which the contact socket comprises a socket carrier which is penetrated centrally by the contact pin, if the socket carrier is cup-shaped and if the socket holder from the free end is one Contact spring having contact ring is inserted and fixed. In a further embodiment, this is the characteristic advantageous, according to which the contact ring comprising the contact springs is fixed by radially crimping the outer edge of the cup-shaped socket carrier.

Finally, a particularly efficient production is very useful if the contact springs of the contact socket are connected to one another in the area of their two ends via a metal strip, which ensures that their mutual spacing is maintained, so that the contact springs of the metal strip contact spring unit come from the common plane of Metal strips are arched out with a reduction in the strip spacing and that the metal strip contact spring unit is converted into the shape of the contact ring by rolling around an axis which is located on the side of the contact spring arch.

With regard to a particularly simple fixation of the central contact pin within the cover, it is advantageous if the central contact pin comprises a support base holding the contact springs, which is mounted in an insulating body, and that the insulating body is fixed in the central bore of the cup-shaped socket carrier . This plug can be made in a known manner from a large number of contact spring wire sections, one end of which is clamped in a copper sleeve by radial rolling in, together with a central projection of a plug pin carrier. A particularly efficient production is possible, however, if the contact springs of the contact pin are connected to a metal strip contact spring unit in a manner similar to that of the contact socket and if this unit is formed by rolling around an axis which is located on the side remote from the contact spring arch the contact pin is transferred.

In the case of the aforementioned metal strip contact spring units, the contact spring wire sections are connected to the metal strips holding them together, for example by soldering. A more rational production is possible in that the contact springs and the metal strips connecting them are manufactured as a unit punched out of the contact spring plate.

For the fixing of the contact pin in the central bore of the pot-shaped socket carrier, the formation of the insulating body from two parts has proven to be very useful, which together limit a cavity adapted to the shape of the support base for receiving the support base and enclose it between them. The separating plane of the insulating body expediently extends transversely to the insulating body axis.

In order to achieve a precise centric alignment and fixing of the contact pin in the cup-shaped socket carrier, it is advantageous if the central bore of the cup-shaped socket carrier has a shoulder on which the insulating body is held in contact with a counter shoulder.

It has turned out to be very favorable if the cup-shaped socket carrier has a sleeve-shaped projection on the side facing away from its free end, the inside diameter of which is adapted to the outside diameter of the insulating body and is dimensioned so long that its free edge is fixed on the insulating body has its connection-side end crimped.

The sleeve-shaped extension of the socket carrier is advantageously provided with an external thread onto which the connector housing can be screwed with an internal thread section.

In a very advantageous embodiment, the connector housing has, at its end facing away from the socket carrier, a section with an internal thread into which a strain relief part can be screwed.

In a further very expedient configuration of the cinch plug, the cup-shaped socket carrier is formed in one piece with the plug housing, and the insulating body enclosing the central plug pin is so long that the strain relief part, after screwing into the internally threaded section of the plug housing, rests the insulating body with its shoulder in contact with the counter shoulder central bore holds.

As can be seen from the drawing, the illustrated C inch plug comprises a central contact pin 1 and a coaxial contact socket 2. The contact pin 1 protrudes about 6 to 8 mm above the contact socket 2 in order to ensure an early attachment point. In the illustrated embodiment, both the contact pin 1 and the contact socket 2 each comprise a plurality of circumferentially distributed contact springs 3 and 4. The contact springs 3 are curved in the illustrated manner such that the curvature time is in the front contact pin area, which leads to an early Contagion point contributes.

The contact socket 2 comprises a pot-shaped socket carrier 5 penetrated centrally by the contact pin 1, into which a contact ring 6 having the contact springs 4 can be inserted from the free end. This contact ring 6 is fixed by radially crimping the outer edge 7 of the cup-shaped socket carrier 5. In the embodiments illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the contact ring 6 has a rectangular cross section with two recesses 8 projecting on the outside toward the ring ends, into which the ends of the contact springs 4 facing one another engage.

The assembly of such a contact socket with a contact ring 6 which carries the contact springs 4 relatively loosely is relatively tedious. Instead, it is possible, as indicated schematically in FIG. 3, to connect the contact springs 4 to one another in the region of their two ends via a metal strip 9. This metal strip ensures that a predetermined mutual spacing of the contact springs 4 with respect to one another is maintained. The result is a metal strip contact spring unit. The contact springs 4 of this unit are arched out of the common plane of the metal strips 9 while reducing the strip spacing. The metal strip / contact spring unit is then converted into the shape of the contact ring 6 by rolling about an axis which is located on the side of the contact spring arch. From the schematic representation of FIG. 3 it can be seen that the curved areas of the contact springs 4 when the Metal strip contact spring unit in the shape of the contact ring 6 experience a mutual approach.

Of course, in practice a much larger number of contact springs 4 are selected, which are connected to one another by the metal strips 9, than shown in FIG. 3.

In an analogous manner, the contact springs 3 of the contact pin 1 can also be connected to one another in the region of their two ends via a metal strip, which ensures that their mutual distance is maintained. In this embodiment, too, the contact springs of the metal strip-contact spring unit are provided with a permanent curvature out of the common plane of the two metal strips, which results in a reduction in the strip spacing. The metal strip contact spring unit is then converted into the shape of the contact pin by rolling around an axis located on the side remote from the contact spring arch. In the case of the metal strip contact spring unit for converting it into the shape of a contact socket as well as that for forming the contact pin, the contact springs and the metal strips connecting them can be manufactured as a unit punched out of the contact spring plate. This makes the separate connection of the contact spring ends to the metal strip by soldering or the like unnecessary.

The central contact pin 1 comprises a support base 10 holding the contact springs 3 clamped in. This is formed in an insulating body consisting of two parts 11, 12. The parting plane 13 between the two insulating body parts 11, 12, which preferably consist of PTFE, extends transversely to the insulating body axis. The two insulating body parts 11, 12 together limit one to the shape of the support base 10 matched cavity and enclose the support base 10 between them.

The central bore 14 of the pot-shaped socket carrier 5 has a shoulder 15 on which the insulating body 11, 12 is held in contact with a counter shoulder 16.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, the cup-shaped socket carrier 5 has on the side facing away from its free end a sleeve-shaped extension 17, the inside diameter of which is adapted to the outside diameter of the insulating body 11, 12. This approach 17 is dimensioned so long that its free edge 18 can be crimped to fix the insulating body 11, 12 on its connection-side end. After the flanging, the contact pin 1 is in a fixed position in relation to the cup-shaped socket carrier 5.

The sleeve-shaped extension 17 of the socket carrier 5 is provided with an external thread, onto which the connector housing 19 can be screwed with an internal thread section 20. A corresponding internal thread section 21 at the other end of the plug housing 19 enables the screwing in of a strain relief part 22 which is designed in a known manner, the construction of which is not explained in more detail here. In this strain relief part 22, the outer shielding of a coaxial cable, which is also not illustrated in more detail, can be fixed, so that an electrical connection to the contact socket 2 is established via the plug housing 19 in the screwed-in state. The central conductor of the coaxial cable can be fixed beforehand on the solder cup 23 of the contact pin 1.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2, the cup-shaped socket carrier 5 is formed in one piece with the plug housing 19. The insulating body 11, 12 enclosing the central plug pin 1 is of such a length that the strain relief part 22 holds the insulating body 11, 12 with its counter shoulder 16 in abutment against the shoulder 15 of the central bore 14 after screwing into the internal thread section 21 of the plug housing 19 . In this embodiment too, the central core of the coaxial cable can be connected to the central contact pin 1, for example by soldering in the area of the bore 24.
