Abstract

The invention relates to a method for ramming foundry sand in a moulding box which is placed on a pattern plate provided with a pattern and holes for the passage of air. After the foundry sand has been introduced loosely into the moulding box, it is acted upon briefly by compressed air and then compressed by means of a press. In known methods, it was either impossible or possible only at great expense to compact the foundry sand sufficiently to achieve a good casting surface, particularly at critical points of the pattern to be moulded. According to the invention, air is passed through the sand during the pressing operation. A method according to the invention can be employed in the production of all types of sand moulds.
