- A cartridge case, particularly for a smoothbore gun, of the type comprising three elements made of mouldable or injectable plastics material, i.e. a tubular member (2), a cap (3) and a base portion (4), characterised in that the tubular member (2) has an assembly end (2a) which is constricted in a truncated conical configuration, the cap (3) having a truncated-conical bore (3b) with the same angle at the peak (A) as the constricted end (2a) of the tubular member (2) for which it is intended to serve as a housing, and the base portion (4) has a truncated conical external profile with the same angle at the peak (A)_ as the constricted end (2a) of the tubular member (2), and in that the bore (3b) of the cap (3), the respective dimensions of the bore (3b) of the cap (3) and of the base portion (4) are such that, after assembly, the annular space separating them is of a width slightly less than the thickness of the constricted end (2a) of the tubular member (2), means being provided to permit assembly, by latching, of the cap (3) and of the base portion (4).
- A case according to Claim 1, characterised in that the base (3c) of the cap (3) has a central circular opening (5), and the base portion (4) has a central cylindrical boss (7) of the same diameter as the opening (5) in the base (3c) of the cap (3), capable of being lodged in this opening and of being retained there, by the aforementioned means of assembly by latching, this boss (7) having a housing (11) for the detonator device intended for this case.
- A case according to Claim 2, characterised in that the means of assembly by latching of the cap (3) and of the base portion (4) are composed of an annular rib (6) and throat (8) of the same cross-section, one (8) fitted on the cylindrical wall of the boss (7) of the base portion (4), and the other (6) on that of the opening (5) in the cap (3) and disposed in such a way as to be engaged elastically one upon the other when these two pieces (3, 4) are presented to one another in the assembly position.
- A case according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the base portion (4) has, projecting on its truncated conical wall, annular striations or teeth (4b).
- A case according to Claim 4, characterised in that the annular striations or teeth (4b) of the base portion (4) have a triangular cross-section and are oriented towards its small-diameter end (4c).
- A case according to any one of the foregoing Claims, characterised in that the tubular member (2) is made of a semi-rigid plastics material such as high-density polyethylene.
- A case according to any one of the foregoing Claims, characterised in that the cap (3) is made of an extremely rigid plastics material such as polyoxymethylene.
- A case according to any one of the foregoing Claims, characterised in that the base portion (4) is made of a slightly flexible and resilient plastics material, such as a polyethylene, a polyamide or a polypropylene.
- A case according to Claim 8, characterised in that the base portion (4) has an annular lip (12) surrounding the internal end of the well (11) intended to serve as a housing for the detonator.
