Definitions

  • the present invention relates to watches of the type comprising a box, a dial, hands, as well as means for fixing the dial in the watch.
  • the dial is made of metal and generally has welded feet, engaged in holes in the plate and fixed to the latter by screws or fixing keys.
  • the decoration is carried out by means of sconces fixed in the metal.
  • This metal generally brass, can be coated with a layer of varnish, or another noble metal, deposited galvanically. Patterns such as the mark or the minute markers can be printed by pad printing.
  • Dials produced using aluminum foil are also known, with planar and parallel upper and lower faces. These dials, used in particular in watches sold under the SWATCH brand (registered trademark), are coated with a decoration comprising several colors, by serigraphy or decal.
  • Patent application FR-2 212 573 discloses another solution in which several so-called front, median and base dials are stacked to sandwich a photograph or the like formed by the medial dial, while the front dial is transparent and has by printing, cutting or engraving, indications in particular intended to provide time information.
  • This arrangement comprises a dial made of organic material and means for positioning the dial in the watch, these positioning means comprising a first and a second part, the first part which is fixed and positioned axially, radially and angularly in the box being intended to receive the second part which is integral with the dial and associated with its periphery while the first part defines an annular groove which opens towards the axis of the hands.
  • the first part includes plus an angular stop engaged in the annular groove, to ensure the axial positioning of the dial, this angular stop cooperating with at least one angular counter-stop formed on the second part.
  • US Pat. No. 554,511 describes the mounting of a dial on a movement by means of a metal support provided, on the one hand with a peripheral rim holding the dial radially, and on the other hand, feet coming to join directly on the movement.
  • Patent FR-1 338 863 discloses the mounting of a dial on a support of the type of that mentioned above, by means of peripheral notches on the support receiving corresponding tabs of the dial.
  • the present invention aims to allow the use of dials in organic materials, without affecting the reliability of the watch.
  • the subject of the present invention is a watch comprising a box with a crystal, a middle part, a back, a movement, hands, a dial made of organic material and means for positioning the dial in the watch, these positioning means comprising a first and a second part, the first part which is fixed and positioned axially, radially and angularly in the box being intended to receive the second part which is integral with the dial and associated with its periphery, this first part defining a annular groove which opens towards the axis of the needles, said first part comprising at least one angular stop engaged in the annular groove, to ensure the axial positioning of the dial, this angular stop cooperating with at least one angular counter-stop formed on the second part, this watch being characterized in that the first part of its positioning means cooperates with a member, such as directly the crystal or a ring forming, for example flange, to define the groove annular which opens towards the axis of the hands and in which is freely engaged the second part which is
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 we can see a watch with a case 10, a movement 12, a dial 14, as well as hands 15.
  • the box 10 for example made of aluminum alloy, comprises a bottom 16 and a middle part 18 formed in one piece, and a crystal 20 engaged in the middle part and bearing against an annular flat surface 22 of the latter.
  • the dial 14 is mounted on the movement 12 by a dial support 24.
  • the latter is formed from a thin metal plate, for example 0.15 mm thick steel, having folded parts.
  • the support 24 has, in its central part, two tongues 26 extending perpendicular to the plane of the watch, towards the inside of the movement. These tongues 26 are engaged in holes 27 of the movement 12 which in conventional constructions are intended to receive the feet of the dial. In Figures 1 and 2, only a tongue 26 and a hole 27 are visible.
  • the periphery of the support 24 comprises four folds distributed uniformly and extending towards the front of the watch, to form feet 28.
  • the height of the feet 28 is slightly greater than the thickness of the dial 14.
  • the latter comprises cutouts 30 in which the feet 28 are engaged, to ensure the angular positioning of the dial 14.
  • the support 24 is housed in a recess 32 of the middle part, bearing by its periphery against the bottom 33 of the recess 32.
  • the support 24 further comprises a cutout 34, formed in one of the feet 28 and into which penetrates a boss 36 projecting from the side 37 of the recess 32 and integrally formed with the middle part.
  • a ring 38 is interposed between the crystal 20 and the feet 28, and forms a flange.
  • the support 24 is positioned and fixed, radially by the side 37 of the recess 32, axially by the bottom 34 and the ring 38 and angularly by the boss 36, while the dial 14 is positioned axially, with a slight clearance, by the support 24 and the ring 38, which together delimit an annular groove opening towards the axis of the needles.
  • the dial is also angularly positioned with a slight play by the feet 28, this feet therefore not preventing the radial deformation of the dial.
  • the support 24 could be made of soft magnetic material, thus playing the role of magnetic screen.
  • the support 24 thus serves as a means of positioning not only the dial, but also the movement 12 in the box 10. In this way, a casing circle is not necessary.
  • the watch includes a box 40 forming a plate in which different modules, schematically represented at 42, are fixed.
  • This box 40 includes a middle part 44, coming from a part with a bottom 45, as well as a crystal 46.
  • a dial 48 covers the modules 42. The time is displayed by means of hands 49.
  • the glass 46 and the middle part 44 are made of heat-weldable materials and are welded to one another. More specifically, the crystal 46 has a rib 50, engaged in a groove 52 of the middle part. During the welding operation, for example by ultrasound, the annular end portion of the rib 50 and the bottom of the groove 52 heat up and together form a zone 54 ensuring the rigid fixing of the glass 46 to the middle part 44. In this zone 54, the materials forming the crystal 46 and the middle part 44 are mixed with one another by the welding operation.
  • the middle part 44 has an annular recess 56 of depth and diameter slightly greater respectively than the thickness and the diameter of the dial. From the bottom of the recess 56 protrude two bosses 58, of height equal to the depth of the recess 56, and placed at noon and at 3 o'clock.
  • the recess 56 is covered by the glass 46 to thus define an annular groove 57 in which the dial 48 is trapped.
  • the dial 48 has two cutouts 60, each embracing one of the bosses 58 and extending radially inward of the dial. These cutouts 60, in cooperation with the bosses 58, angularly position the dial, but without preventing a radial deformation.
  • the dial 48 housed in the recess 56 is positioned axially by the bottom of the latter and the underside of the crystal 46.
  • the dial 48 can advantageously be fixed to the middle with a point of glue.
  • the middle part may have only a boss 58. This point of glue facilitates the assembly operations of the watch, without preventing radial deformation of the dial.
