Abstract

The heating element is supported by a carrier dish beneath the hob surface via an insulation layer fitted into the base of the carrier dish, with a peripheral edge zone (114) used to define the optical and thermal limits of the cooking zone. The heating element has 2 high power halogen lamps (20) extending parallel to one another across the heating zone and a heating resistance (25) operating at a lower temp. Each halogen lamp (20) projects through an opening (86) in the edge zone (114) and carries a coating (89) at this end for screening the light from being directed outside the defined cooking zone.
