Abstract

The cutter is a hand tool with interchangeable blade having a cutter handle (1) comprising a front section (2) and a rear section (3) which constitute a housing (4) of basically U-shaped cross-section, and a clamping piece (5) which fits into the front section (2) in the U-shaped housing (4). The clamping piece (5) is designed as a pivoting lever and has an L-shaped bearing journal (9) on its upper and its lower longitudinal sides, each bearing journal being lodged in a hinge-like manner in a mating recess (11) in the clamping piece (5) in the housing (4). An operating screw (13) which can be moved perpendicular to the swivelling axis of the lever is lodged in the housing (4) and abuts on the longer lever arm (12a) of the clamping piece (5). A blade (7) can be inserted and withdrawn through a guiding slit (6) in the housing (4) between the flat inner side of the housing (4) and the clamping piece (5). The shorter lever arm in front of the bearing journal clamps the blade (7) firmly in the guiding slit (6) when the longer lever arm of the clamping piece (5) is swivelled slightly outwards by the operating screw (13). The advantage of the cutter is that any type of blade can be used and can be extended and firmly clamped to any desired length through the guiding slit.

Description

The invention relates to a knife with a guide slot at the front end of a knife handle for guiding a retractable with respect to the guide slot and clampable in the use position blade and with an angled relative to the knife handle front housing section with a substantially U-shaped cross section and one in the U -shaped housing section fitted clamping piece, which together with the housing section limits the guide slot for the blade. A knife of this type is known from US-A-4,068,375.

Knives of this type are used as tools, in particular for work that requires a very sharp cutting edge on the blade, such as for cutting carpets or for similar jobs that make the cutting edge blunt relatively quickly, so that the blade then has to be replaced with a new one. When the knife is not in use, the blade must be able to be pushed back completely into the knife handle in order to exclude the risk of injury from the sharp blade.

The problem of changing the blade is solved in known knives of this type in various ways, for example from DE-A-28 27 381 a knife for use with long strip-shaped blades is known, which have pre-punched break lines at equal intervals from one another, in each case unusable to be able to break off the blade end along a break line, so that there is again a sharp blade section at the front end of the blade. The blade contained in this knife in a blade magazine is gradually adjusted by means of a blade pusher which is guided in the knife handle and engages in the locking positions pushed into the use position at the front and clamped in the use position by means of a clamping screw at the front end of the knife handle. The known knife has the disadvantage that the length of the blade extended from the knife handle cannot be varied as desired and only a straight cutting edge is present on the blade that can be divided into individual blade sections due to the existing break lines. However, there are very differently shaped blades for the various craft work, especially for carpet cutting, for example hook-shaped blades with an arcuate cutting edge at both ends, which allows the knife to be pulled through the material to be cut, in particular the carpet and does not have to work with pressure as with a straight cutting edge. The knife for use with breakable blades excludes the use of special types of blades.

Another knife is known from DE-A-30 17 751, which contains a blade magazine in a hollow knife handle, and which also has a blade changer element which can be pushed back and forth in the knife handle relative to the blade magazine and which has various drivers which make it possible to have one Move the used blade out of the guide slot of the knife back into the blade magazine contained in the knife handle and also bring a new blade forward into the guide slot from this blade magazine. With this knife, there is no need to pick up a used blade for a new blade, so there is no risk of injury is switched off because new and unusable blades circulate in the knife handle, in which a supply of blades is contained in the blade magazine. In the guide slot of this knife, the blade is also moved forwards and backwards with the aid of a blade pusher that can be locked in different latching positions and, when in use, is also held in the guide slot in the guide slot that is to be machined very precisely for this reason. There is no possibility of clamping any blade of any other shape in a position of use on the knife handle, and with any length of the extended blade section without limitation by spaced locking positions.

The object underlying the present invention was to provide a knife of the type mentioned, which can be used for very differently designed blades that can be clamped with any length extended in the use position on the knife handle and which also cross independently of the guide slot can be clamped to this arranged, the knife should also be designed in relation to the working technique by applying pressure or by pulling in such a way that it lies better in the hand and the different working techniques can be carried out with less effort.

To solve this problem, the knife has the features according to claim 1 and is equipped in a further expedient embodiment with the features according to the dependent claims.

The knife shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1 has a knife handle 1, which is bent in such a way that a front section 2 and an integral rear section 3 of the knife handle enclose an obtuse angle. This cranked shape of the knife handle enables a cheaper working posture and the knife lies better in the hand than a straight knife. The knife handle 1 has in the front section 2 as well as in 11 a substantially U-shaped housing 4 in cross section. In the front section 2 of the knife handle, a clamping piece 5 is fitted into the cross-sectionally U-shaped housing 4 from the open side thereof, which includes a guide slot 6 for a blade 7 between it and the housing 4. The clamping piece 5 extends from the front knife handle end to the offset in the knife handle 1 between the front knife handle section 2 and the rear knife handle section 3. The front end edge 8 of the section of the knife handle containing the guide slot 6 does not run at right angles to the guide slot 6, but at an acute angle to this guide slot. The clamping piece 5 is designed as an elongated lever. The clamping piece 5 shown separately in FIG. 7 has an angled bearing journal 9 on the upper and lower longitudinal edge. The two pivot pins 9, which are arranged offset from one another, lie on a straight line running approximately parallel to the end edge 8 of the housing 4, which forms a pivot axis 10 for the clamping piece 5 designed as a lever (FIG. 3), as best shown in FIGS emerges, the housing 4 has continuous recesses 11 near the front end, at a mutual distance from one another which corresponds to the distance between the two bearing pins 9 from one another. These recesses 11 extend in a step-like manner through the housing 4, so that they form a bearing receptacle for the two bearing pins 9 of the clamping piece 5, as can be seen most clearly from FIG. 6. The continuous recesses 11 are also visible in FIGS. 3 and 4. The clamping piece 5 designed as a lever has a longer lever end 12a and a shorter lever end 12b.

In the knife handle 1, in the area of the offset between the front section 2 and the rear section 3 of the knife handle, an actuating screw 13 is arranged against the clamping piece 5, namely against its longer lever arm 12a. This includes one with an external threaded bolt 14 in threaded engagement. standing knurled nut 15, the circumferential surface of which protrudes beyond the outside of the knife handle for actuation. The knurled nut 15 is supported on the end face in the housing 4 and the external threaded bolt 14 is held in a rotationally secured manner on a hexagon pin 16 which is fixedly connected to the housing 4, so that when the knurled nut 15 rotates, the external threaded bolt 14 is displaced in the axial direction and the clamping piece 5 is pivoted. A small swiveling movement is sufficient to press the small lever arm 12b of the clamping piece 5 against the blade 7 with a large force in order to clamp it in the guide slot 6 of the knife. The advantage of this type of clamping is that the blade 7 can be clamped out as far as desired if a sufficiently long section of the blade is gripped by the clamping piece 5. In addition, the most varied types of blades, as are shown, for example, in FIGS. 2a-2f, can be clamped in any position extended without difficulty. Finally, with this type of clamp fastening, it is also possible to clamp a blade 7 lying transversely to the guide slot, as shown in FIG. 10, which is not possible with any other knife of this type.

The guide slot 6 for the blade 7, which is enclosed by the housing 4 and the clamping piece 5, is equipped with a groove-shaped recess 20 formed in the housing 4, in which a helical compression spring 21 is accommodated, by means of which the non-clamped blade 7 is pressed out of the guide slot. if it is to be replaced, for example (Fig. 3 and Fig. 4). The spring 21 presses against a flat coupling piece 22 which is guided in a longitudinally movable manner in the guide slot, namely against an angled sheet-metal section 23 against which the spring end abuts. Another on the edge center of the flat coupling piece 22 bent upward sheet metal section 24 forms a mandrel which engages in an edge recess 25 on the blade 7. This coupling piece 22 guides the blade 7 precisely in the guide slot 6 and prevents the cutting edge of the blade from being damaged. 4, the coupled blade 7 is shown.

In order to be able to clamp a blade 7 according to FIG. 10 lying transversely to the guide slot 6 with the clamping piece, a correspondingly long contact surface is required. For this purpose, the housing 4 has rib-like housing widenings 30 in the front section having the guide slot 6 on opposite housing sides. A stepped recess 31 is also formed in this widespread housing end, by which a bearing surface 32 lying in the plane of the guide slot 6 is formed which a blade can be clamped according to FIG. 10. The rib-like housing widening 30 on the underside simultaneously offers protection for the hand of the user of the knife, in order not to fall into the blade when the knife handle slips off. A corresponding projecting housing section 33 to protect the hand of the user is also at the rear end of the knife handle. In these projecting housing parts 30 and 33 there are also transverse bores 34 and, at the rear end of the knife handle, there is also a receiving slot 35 which serve to fasten the knife to a device for mechanical linear guidance, not shown in the drawing. If the knife is not guided by hand, but is fastened in such a device, a precisely vertical cut is achieved, for example, when cutting carpets and can thereby prevent the carpet floor from being cut to the right or left of the cutting line, which is the less precise guiding of the knife is easily passed by hand, so that little careful work can then be identified when the edges of the carpet meet.

In order to always have a sufficient supply of blades for working with the knife, a blade magazine 37 according to FIG. 9, which contains a plurality of blades and is inserted in the rear hollow section 3 of the knife handle 1, is pushed in from the rear narrow side of the knife. The housing 4 has in this rear section 3 on the top a slot 38 for the removal of one blade from the blade magazine. For this purpose, a lockable actuating device 39 is used, which can be pivoted about a pivot axis 40 in the blade magazine and on which one blade is supported at the bottom in order to pivot it upward out of the slot 38.

In order to prevent unintentional movement of the actuating screw 13 for clamping the blade when working with the knife, the knife handle housing 4 A pivotable protective flap 41 is arranged above the actuating screw 13.

The knife has the advantages that, due to the offset of the knife handle, handling when working with the knife is much cheaper, that the most diverse types of blades and, in addition to the blades shown in FIG. 2, saw blades with a width corresponding to the guide slot 6 are used that the hand of the user is protected and the knife can also be attached in an additional device to guide it exactly straight.
