Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder insert, in which a piston having a plurality of piston rings is movably arranged, and with a row of lubricating oil bores arranged essentially in a plane lying at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder insert, which are connected to a common lubricating oil supply and which in Lubricate grooves that are located in the outer surface of the cylinder insert adjacent to the piston.
Until now, it was common to make only one row of lubricating oil bores with grooves in the cylinder, either in its upper end area or relatively far down on the cylinder insert. This affected the lubrication in different ways. In the former case, corrosion attacks in the cylinder insert caused by the combustion products are reduced or even prevented, in which case the lubrication in the lower region of the cylinder insert can be insufficient, which means great wear and tear. When the row of lubricating oil bores is arranged in the lower region of the cylinder insert, good lubrication of the lower section of the cylinder insert is ensured, but the protection against corrosion attacks in the upper region of the cylinder insert is unsatisfactory. In both cases, a lubricating oil with a high TBN (total base number) is used for lubrication applied, ie a highly alkaline lubricating oil with additives.
The invention has for its object to improve the lubrication in a reciprocating internal combustion engine of the type mentioned in such a way that both the corrosion attack and wear are drastically reduced.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that a further row of lubricating oil bores is provided in the cylinder insert, essentially arranged in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder insert, which are connected to a common lubricating oil supply and which end in lubricating grooves that adjoin the piston in the one Shell surface of the cylinder insert are attached, that the lubricating oil supply to the further row is independent of the first row and that the first-mentioned row of lubricating oil holes is in an area which - based on the position of the top piston ring in top dead center - is below this position and whose limits are between 5 and 18% of the piston stroke, and the further series of lubricating oil holes is in an area below, whose limits are between 20 and 40% of the piston stroke. This design enables the lubricating oil supply to each lubrication area to be individually adapted to the different operating conditions in these two areas. This can be done by adding the same or different amounts of the same lubricant or the same or different amounts of two different lubricants to the two lubrication areas.
An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail in the following description with reference to the drawing, which shows a longitudinal section through part of a cylinder insert and the view of part of a piston located therein.
According to the drawing, in a
In the upper region of the cylinder insert 1, a series of lubricating
With the arrangement described it is e.g. possible to supply both the row of lubricating
