Abstract

A safety device for the side edges of every escalator step tread plate and riser is formed of an elastic synthetic material of a very low coefficient of friction. All ribs on the body of the safety device are supported tiltably such that under loading the outermost safety rib touches the handrail base and closes the air gap between the step and the base. The tilting is controlled by a wedge-shaped recess formed in the body. The recess is closed toward the air gap by either an inwardly arched terminating wall or by a flange.

Description

The invention relates to an escalator with a movable step belt guided between two base plates with steps having side safety boundaries, the safety boundaries being made of elastic plastic and having ribs and grooves and a wedge-shaped recess in the direction of travel, on the one hand forming a visible indication of the peripheral zones and on the other hand include a safety rib which adjoins the base plates and forms an air gap, which is movably mounted and closes the air gap between the step and the base plate when loaded.

In order to counter the known latent danger of pulling in clothing and light footwear between the moving steps and the fixed base plates on escalators, various types of safety devices arranged laterally on the steps have become known. The selection of such safety devices ranges from the simple colored marking of the danger zone to the complicated demarcations that can be mechanically inserted on the side of the steps.

No. 4,397,383 discloses such a safety device for escalators, in which a protruding plastic insert is arranged on each side of each step on the step plate. The plastic insert is made of elastic material using the extrusion process and has two rags. The first tab is pressed into the outermost groove of the tread plate for mounting on the tread plate surface, while the second tab protrudes towards the tread side against the tread of the tread plate supported and tiltable against the base plate. In the unloaded state, the projecting tab is directed against the base plate without touching it and forms a clearance between the tab and the base plate, which is approximately the same as the clearance between the outermost fixed rib of the step and the base plate. If the tab is stepped on by a passenger's shoe, it bends against the base plate, the clearance between the base plate and the safety insert being closed. The protruding tab of the safety insert, which has the lowest possible coefficient of friction, slides on the base plate and prevents items of clothing or light footwear of the passenger from being pinched and drawn in between the step plate and the base plate. Any object that is nevertheless drawn in between the plastic insert and the base plate can be relatively easily released from the pinch by the elasticity of the insert with an immediate counterforce if the pinched object is not already gripped by the fixed edge of the step tread plate.

A disadvantage of this design is that the open gap between the outermost tread plate rib and the safety insert, especially the undercut between the projecting tab and the clamped tab of the safety insert, can fill with dirt over time. This at least severely limits the effectiveness of the above flap. This disadvantage primarily affects outdoor systems or systems in underpasses, where the amount of dirt can be extremely large depending on the weather and the season. Another disadvantage is that the holder of the plastic insert in the groove of a cast step with a conically tapered cross-section and because of the desired low coefficient of friction of the insert material can easily be torn out of the groove. Despite this safety device on the Step tread plate still has a latent pinching or Danger of pulling in for light footwear between the step front parts (risers) and the base plate, especially in the upper and lower area of the escalator, where relative movements between two adjacent step bodies are required to form the step heels or the step horizontal runs.

Another protective device for escalator steps has become known from US Pat. No. 4,570,781, in which protective inserts are arranged on the side edges of the step plate and on the risers. The protective insert is made of elastic plastic using the extrusion process and in one embodiment is screwed onto the recessed edge of the step plate or riser from the visible side, or in another embodiment is clamped onto the outermost rib of a conventional step. The protective insert of the first embodiment has three ribs, the outermost rib projecting over all other rib surfaces lying on a common plane. The tread of the outermost rib is chamfered towards the other ribs and the base of this rib has a wedge-shaped notch directed towards the base plate over the entire length, through which the entire rib is moved with relatively slight pressure against the base plate or away from the base plate can. Towards the base side, the superimposed surfaces of the notch serve as an end stop for the movement of the rib, at the same time as the upper edge of the rib touches the base plate. The upper edge of the second rib serves as a stop for the movement of the outermost rib away from the base plate.

A disadvantage of this protective device is that the notch open towards the base plate can also fill with dirt, thereby restricting or preventing the possibility of movement against the base plate. In extreme cases, the outermost rib could even be protrude further from the base plate, so that the clearance between the rib and the base plate increases in a wedge shape and the risk of being drawn in would be greater rather than smaller. The protective device also only responds when the outermost rib is entered or loaded.

The invention has for its object to propose a safety device for the side edges of the steps of an escalator, which responds already when entering or loading a part of this safety device and closes the air gap between the associated step and the base plate, in which the pollution on the steps none Influences their correct operation and in which clothing parts that may have been pulled in between the step and the base plate can be pulled out of this position again without great effort.

This object is achieved by the invention characterized in claim 1.

The advantages achieved by the invention are essentially to be seen in the fact that when entering or loading the danger zone of the step plate or riser, the dangerous air gap between the step and the base plate closes that the movement required for closing the air gap due to the accumulation of dirt cannot be influenced, and that any clothing parts that are pulled in between the base plate and the lateral safety boundary can nevertheless be pulled out of this position with relatively little force due to the shape and the elasticity of the safety boundary. Another advantage of the invention is that the air gap between the step and the base plate is closed only when there is a danger and the lateral safety boundaries are not always on the base plates streak, which would increase the drive power and noise.

The escalator 1 has a number of steps 2, which are embedded as an endless circumferential band of steps between two base plates 5, each with a balustrade base 6 arranged on both sides. A balustrade 7 is built on each balustrade base 6, on which an endless rubber handrail runs synchronously with the step belt. Each stage 2 has a step plate 3 and a riser 4. On each side of the tread plate 3, 5 safety barriers 9, 12, 13, 14 are provided as a closure against the base plate; similar safety barriers 10 are also arranged on each side of riser 4.

Such a safety delimitation 12 is shown larger in section in FIG. 2. It is placed in a recording recess 2.1 of level 2. The safety delimitation 12 has ribs 12.2 and grooves 12.3 and has a safety rib 12.1 spaced from the base plate 5 by an air gap 11 and having the same height as the other ribs 12.2 and a wedge-shaped recess 12.4 with an axis of rotation 12.5. The axis of rotation 12.5 lies in the apex line belonging to the wedge-shaped recess 12.4, which is arranged between the surface 12.8 of the safety delimitation 12 facing away from the base plate 5 and a parallel plane placed through the central axis 12.9 of the rib 12.2 of the safety delimitation 12 having the greatest distance from the base plate 5 is. An inwardly arched end wall 12.6 closes the wedge-shaped recess 12.4 against the base plate 5. By means of a shoulder 2.4 and a nose 2.3 of the body of stage 2, the safety boundary 12 is clamped on the stage with the aid of a restraint device 12.7. An enlarged air gap which arises between the base plate 5 and the fixed part of the step is designated by the number 19.

Zur Erreichung einer leichteren Biegbarkeit der Sicherheitsabgrenzung 10 werden in die Abschlusswand 10.6 eine Anzahl Schlitze 10.8 angebracht.3, 4 and 5, 10 denotes the safety boundaries, which are arranged on the two side edges of the slightly convex riser 4. These safety boundaries 10 have ribs 10.2 and grooves 10.3, as well as a safety rib 10.1 spaced from the base plate 5 by the air gap 11. The safety delimitation 10 is inserted into a receiving device 2.5 adapted to the curvature of the riser 4 and, similarly to the safety delimitation 12 of the step plate 3, is clamped by means of a restraint device 10.7 by means of a shoulder 2.4 and a nose 2.3 of the body of the step 2. A wedge-shaped recess 10.4 with an axis of rotation 10.5 is provided in the interior of the safety boundary 10. The wedge-shaped recess 10.4 is covered against the base plate by the inwardly curved end wall 10.6. The enlarged air gap 19 is again formed between the base plate 5 and the fixed part of the step. A number of slots 10.8 are made in the end wall 10.6 in order to make the safety boundary 10 easier to bend.

A safety delimitation is designated by 13 in FIG. 6. It has ribs 13.2 and grooves 13.3 and a safety rib 13.1 protruding from the other ribs 13.2 and delimited by an air gap 11 from the base plate 5. A wedge-shaped recess 13.4 provided in the interior of the safety delimitation 13 with an axis of rotation 13.5 is foamed with a foamable plastic 16 in order to increase the spring action of the Increase security delimitation 13. At least one corresponding stabilizing pin 18 can also be inserted into the recess for the axis of rotation 13.5, which fills this recess and keeps a deflection in the region of the axis of rotation small under load. The rear end of the wedge-shaped recess 13.4 forms an inwardly curved end wall 13.6. The safety delimitation 13 is held by means of a restraint device 13.7 through the shoulder 2.4 and the nose 2.3 of the body of stage 2. The enlarged air gap 19 is located between the nose 2.3 of the stage 2 body and the base plate 5.

In Fig. 7, a security delimitation is designated 14. It has ribs 14.2 and grooves 14.3 and a safety rib 14.1 protruding from the other ribs 14.2 and delimited by the air gap 11 from the base plate 5. Leaf springs 17 are inserted into a wedge-shaped recess 14.4 provided in the interior of the safety delimitation 14 with an axis of rotation 14.5 to increase the pretensioning force. The rear end of the wedge-shaped recess 13.4 in turn forms an inwardly curved end wall 14.6. The safety delimitation 14 is held with the aid of a restraint device 14.7 by the shoulder 2.4 and the nose 2.3 of the level 2 body. The air gap formed between the nose 2.3 and the base plate 5 is designated by the number 19.

Ein zwischen dem Abschlusslappen 9.6 und dem Sockelblech 5 gebildeter, vergrösserter Luftspalt wird wiederum mit der Ziffer 19 bezeichnet.8 shows a further safety delimitation 9 in section, with ribs 9.2 and grooves 9.3 and a safety rib 9.1 projecting from the base plate 5 through an air gap 11 and projecting from the other ribs 9.2. The safety delimitation 9 is placed in a receiving recess 2.1 of stage 2 and fastened by screws 15. A wedge-shaped recess 9.4 with an axis of rotation 9.5 is provided inside the safety boundary 9. A restraining device 9.7 lies due to a prestressing force having end flaps 9.6 of the safety boundary 9 on a stop 2.2 of the body of stage 2 and covers the wedge-shaped recess 9.4 against the base plate 5. An enlarged air gap formed between the end flap 9.6 and the base plate 5 is again designated by the number 19.

Am Körper der Stufe 2 ist zusätzlich ein Führungsanschlag 2.6 vorgesehen.FIG. 9 shows a safety delimitation 9 similar to that in FIG. 8, which has an end flap 9.8 instead of the upper shoulder (2.4) on the body of stage 2 for easier replacement. A guide stop 2.6 is additionally provided on the body of stage 2.

The devices described above work as follows: The safety barriers 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 arranged laterally on the step tread plates 3 and on the risers 4 are made of elastic plastic by the extrusion process. They are inserted in corresponding recesses 2.1, 2.5 on the body of the steps 2 and either held by shoulders 2.4 and lugs 2.3 or fastened by screws 15. The safety boundaries 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 have a wedge-shaped recess 9.4, 10.4, 12.4, 13.4, 14.4 on the inside, which allows the upper, accessible part or the loadable in the corner between the base plate and the riser To make part of the security delimitation 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 tiltable. Depending on the choice of material, it is possible to achieve the necessary spring action through the material itself, or through inserts in the form of springs 17, foamed plastic 16, etc. The wedge-shaped recess 9.4, 10.4, 12.4, 13.4, 14.4 is either completely closed against the base plate by an end wall 12.6, 13.6, 14.6 or covered by a rag 9.6. This practically eliminates the accumulation of dirt in the recess and does not impair the functionality for the tilting movement. As soon as you enter part of the step 2 on step 3 arranged safety delimitation 9, 12, 13, 14, or when loading part of the safety delimitation 10 arranged on the riser, the entire width of the safety delimitation 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 tilts downwards or backwards, namely by Rotation axis 9.5, 10.5, 12.5, 13.5, 14.5 of the wedge-shaped recess 9.4, 10.4, 12.4, 13.4, 14.4. So that the axis of rotation 9.5, 10.5, 12.5, 13.5 maintains its position as possible when loaded, one or more stabilizing pins can be inserted into the corresponding recess. During the tilting movement, the protruding safety rib 9.1, 10.1, 12.1, 13.1, 14.1 arranged on the edge comes to rest against the base plate 5, the air gap 11 between the base plate 5 and the safety boundary 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 closing. The retraction of a part of a passenger's clothing can thereby be largely prevented. The tipping path of the safety delimitation is limited by an appropriate design of the wedge-shaped recess as soon as the safety rib abuts the base plate and the air gap is closed. This measure, together with the very low coefficient of friction of the material of the safety delimitation, prevents excessive friction and excessive heating between the safety rib and the base plate. The inwardly curved end wall of the wedge-shaped recess enables the safety boundary to be tilted downwards without bulging against the base plate. A tilting movement upwards is prevented by the end wall 12.6, 13.6, 14.6, which firmly connects the step side with the holding side of the safety boundary.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 8 and 9 with an end flap 9.6 as a cover between the wedge-shaped recess 9.4 and the base plate 5, a preload formed by the material of the safety delimitation 9 itself is provided, by means of which the retaining device 9.7 of the end flap 9.6 on the stop 2.2 of the Level 2 body. If necessary, it is easily possible to increase the pretension by inserting a leaf spring 17, as shown in FIG. 7. During the tilting movement, that is to say when one of the ribs 9.2, 9.1 of the safety delimitation 9 is loaded, the end flap 9.6 is pressed downward, leaving the stop 2.2 of the stage 2 body. The safety rib 9.1 closes the air gap 11 to the base plate 5, while the two side flanks of the wedge-shaped recess 9.4 rest on one another and limit the tilting movement downwards. When the load is released, the safety delimitation 9 returns to its starting position until the restraint device 9.7 is again at the stop 2.2.

The air gap 11 between the base plate 5 and the safety delimitation 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 is also always smaller than the air gap 19 between the base plate 5 and the solid body of stage 2. Possibly nevertheless between the base plate 5 and the safety delimitation 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 pulled-in items of clothing or shoes from passengers can be freed from this position with immediate reaction due to the elasticity of the safety boundary 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 without great effort, because further pulling these parts between the base plate and the fixed part of a step is delayed due to the larger air gap 19.

End stops (not shown) prevent the clamped safety barriers from being pushed out in the direction of travel of the steps and at the same time prevent dirt from penetrating into the wedge-shaped recesses from the front face of the safety barriers.

It is conceivable that the necessary through holes for the screw heads are closed with plastic plugs in the safety boundaries, which are fastened with screws, in order to prevent dirt from penetrating into the wedge-shaped recesses.

It is readily possible, instead of the safety delimitations 10 and 12 shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 and described in the preceding text with the same high safety ribs 12.1, 10.1 as the other ribs 12.2, 10.2, to also provide such safety ribs 9.1, 13.1, 14.1 which protrude the remaining ribs 9.2, 10.2, 12.2, 13.2, 14.2 by a certain amount.
