Abstract

A snap hinge closure connects two parts, such as, for example, a lower and an upper part of a closure. Both parts have casing walls which, in the closed position of the hinge, match vertically above one another. On both sides of the film hinge, tension bands are positioned, which, in the closed position, are tensed. The tension bands are held, with their ends, in recesses (11) in the casing walls, and have, over their entire length, an approximately uniform cross section. The outermost surfaces of the tension bands align with the casing external surfaces.

Description

The present invention relates to a one-piece snap hinge closure made of plastic with a lower part and a cap, both parts each having a jacket wall. When the closure is closed, these jacket walls are congruently vertically one above the other. The lower part is connected to the cap by means of at least one film hinge and two tensioning straps arranged on either side of the film hinge, which are stretched when the closure is closed.

Proposed solutions to make the spring elements or hinge parts of a snap hinge as close as possible are known from DE-C 589 647, DE-A 3 026 436. According to US Pat. No. 3,964,609, the spring element is even manufactured separately and inserted into a recess parallel to the outer wall of the container.

A snap hinge closure of the type mentioned at the outset is known, for example, from EP-A 0 147 423. The tensioning straps of the known solution are usually fastened to sprues which are placed on the outer lateral surface and lie in a plane which cuts the plastic closure like a secant. From the point of view of effectiveness, strength and closing force, these closures have proven their worth. The main criticism on the market was the aesthetic appearance and the processability of the closures in the filling stations. The above straps occasionally caused blockages on the conveyor line.

A solution to the second problem is presented in EP-A 056 469. Instead of the tensioning straps, intermediate elements are arranged at the side of the film hinge joint, which are thick-walled per se and are connected to the lower part or the cap via film hinges. The force required for the snap action is not formed here by the longitudinal expansion of the intermediate elements, but by the restoring force of the curved intermediate elements. The tensile forces that occur when opening and closing the closure run through the film hinges, on which the intermediate elements are connected to the cap or the lower part. The film hinge forming the swivel axis is compressed when the closure is opened. While the compression of a film hinge is unproblematic, tensile forces over a film hinge pose a great danger. If the tensile forces run exactly in the direction of the path perpendicular to the axis of the film hinge, the resistance is still relatively large. If the film hinges are inclined, as required by EP-A 056 469, the aforementioned correct force is not guaranteed. The result is that a notch overextension occurs on the sides of the film hinges and the film hinges tear.
  • The material thickness in the area of a film hinge is only 0.1-0.2 mm. This leads to a directional orientation of the macromolecules in the film hinge area during the spraying process. In areas in which the macromolecules are directionally oriented, they only tolerate small forces transversely to the direction of development, as occur in the embodiment according to the above-mentioned invention. In contrast, the material thickness in a strap is approx. 0.5 - 0.8 mm 4 to 5 times larger. A directional orientation of the macromolecules during the spraying process does not take place here. The direction of the forces acting on the tensioning straps is therefore immaterial. The size of the openings in the injection mold through which the material always flows from the lower part into the cap determines the spray cycle time.

The applicant has attained the above knowledge through complex measurements and tests and has therefore set itself the task of creating a plastic hinge of the type mentioned at the beginning, in which problems of the type mentioned above can be avoided.
  • The invention solves this problem by a snap hinge closure made of plastic with the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
  • In the drawings, an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown and explained with reference to the following description.

Unterteiles 1, 2.In the drawing, the lower part of the one-piece snap hinge closure is denoted by 1, the upper part connected to it by 2. The snap hinge is integrated in a lock in the form shown. However, it goes without saying that the snap hinge according to the invention can also be integrated in a packaging which comprises the features of the preamble of patent claim 1. This includes in particular cans and boxes made of plastic, which are formed in one piece. The illustrated embodiment according to the principle of the invention is a closure, in which the lower closure part 1 is attached to a tube T. The upper part 2 is a cap in this case. The two parts 1 and 2 of the closure are connected to one another via a conventional film hinge 3, which protrudes slightly beyond the peripheral jacket wall. The coat wall 4 of the lower part 1 and the outer wall 5 of the cap and the upper part 2 are vertically one above the other. Opposed to the film hinge, an indentation 8 is provided in the upper and lower part, which should facilitate the opening of the closure. Left and right of the film hinge 3, the two tensioning straps 6 are almost only partially recognizable. They are integrated in the lateral surfaces 4 and 5 in such a way that only the lateral boundaries 7 can still be seen. Apart from slight deviations, the outer surfaces of the tensioning straps 6 are aligned with the outer surfaces of the upper and lower parts 1, 2.

FIG. 4 shows the same exemplary embodiment of the snap hinge on the closure according to FIGS. 1-3 in the fully open position on a larger scale. The lower part 1 has a cover surface 9 which rises above the parting plane E of the upper and lower part 1, 2 and has a spout 10 which tapers conically upwards. The tensioning straps 6 are untensioned in this position and form an arc. Since here the tensioning straps are located on the periphery of the curved jacket surfaces, the tensioning straps are curved more strongly in the area closer to the film hinge than the areas further away from the film hinge. Therefore, the tensioning strap is visible in the side view with a double arch. Also in the view according to FIG. 5, which shows a top view of the closure according to FIG. 4, it can be seen that the radius of the tensioning straps 6, in this position of the hinge, closer to the film hinge 3 is smaller and more distant from the film hinge 3. This is shown in detail in FIG. 7, a section along the line CC in FIG. 5.
  • In this illustration according to FIG. 5, in which the upper part or the cap can be seen from below or from the inside and the lower part from above, one can also see the niches 11 in which the tensioning straps are attached. The niches in the cap or the upper part 2 do not break through the jacket wall 5, but leave a minimally required wall thickness, so that in the closed state of the closure the upper part and the lower part rest on one another over the entire circumference of the jacket walls. This is of considerable importance because, as is well known, plastic parts are subject to high static charges. As a result, dust particles are magnetically drawn through possible slits in the event of a closure that does not close completely and lead to visible contamination. The bottom surfaces of the recesses 11 can run parallel or inclined to the parting plane E. Of course, the straps 6 must be the longer they are from the pivot axis, namely the film hinge 3, the longer. Consequently, the niche floors run from the end farther away from the film hinge from below to the upper end closer to the film hinge. In Figure 6, a section through the open closure in the vertical through the film hinge, the niche floors are shown in dotted lines, although of course they are not visible in this view.

An essential difference between the tensioning straps as used in this invention and the intermediate elements according to the prior art is that the tensioning straps 6 from the starting point in the niches 11 have at least approximately the same cross-sectional area over their entire length. The straps can be rounded and thickened at the base in order to avoid a notch effect. However, in the area that leads to the required elastic longitudinal expansion, the cross-sectional area remains the same apart from inaccuracies.
  • The cross-sectional shape of the straps 6 can be designed very differently. This is shown by the examples in FIGS. 8a-d. So the outer surface can be adapted exactly to the contour of the jacket wall, but the inner surface can be straight. (Figure 8a)
  • But in addition to the purely rectangular shape as can be seen in FIG. 6, a convex shape on all sides, for example an ellipse as in FIG. 8b, would also be possible. If the straps are designed in a U-shape as shown in FIG. 8c, the hinge has an increased snap action. The subdivision of the tensioning straps into several sub-straps, as shown in FIG. 8d, allows an even better adaptation of the snap hinge according to the invention to relatively complex shapes of the two parts connected to one another by means of the hinge. If the snap hinge according to the invention is realized on a square or polygonal box or box, several film hinges, all lying on a straight line, can be provided on the straight side. Then the hinge according to the invention can also occur several times.
