Description

The present invention relates to a flat fuse used as a circuit breaker and, more particularly, a circuit breaker comprising an insulating support body in which is mounted a conductive element constituted by two pluggable connection tabs joined by a fuse part.

More and more are used such flat fuses, pluggable in corresponding receptacles of service plates and interconnection box, for reasons of space, qualities of protection and convenience of plugging.

A fuse of the type recalled above is described in French patent No. 82 13 847 and comprises a support body open on one of the large lateral faces, a fuse part connecting the upper ends of the connection tabs, and pins. hooking for said connection tabs, the free ends of the hooking pins being located in a plane different from the plane containing said connection tabs.

Although such a fuse has been satisfactory, it has been found that it is preferable to close the open face so as to avoid projections out of the support body of small pieces of fuse part when the latter blows when an electrical overload.

N° 3 909 761.Flat fuses with a completely closed housing exist, the most commonly used being described in U.S. Patent No. 3,909,761.

However, the housing is made in one-piece form with translucent material and the conductive element is also made in one-piece form, the establishment and fixing of the conductive element being carried out by introducing the conductive element through a passage. formed at the lower end of the housing, then by hot deforming parts of the housing so as to introduce a certain quantity of material into orifices formed in the connection tabs of the conductive element. It is easily understood that it is necessary to use a very specific tool to carry out the introduction of the one-piece conductive element into the also one-piece case, then another very specific tool for the partial melting of the material constituting the case is made to the right of the holes of the connection tabs, failing which the fuse thus obtained could not function correctly.

Furthermore, such a type of fuse is practically impossible to produce from separate strips. In fact, even if the monoblock boxes can be manufactured in a strip or even in the form of a chain of boxes, it is difficult to carry out an individual introduction of each of the conductive elements of the chain into one of the boxes of the other chain.

The present invention relates to a flat fuse of the type described in French patent No. 82 13 487 but which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks.

An object of the present invention is a flat fuse which is very easy to produce and has a low cost price, and above all capable of being manufactured from separate strips, to facilitate the automation of its insertion into interconnection boxes, and as a continuous strip.

The present invention relates to a flat fuse of the type comprising a support body open on one of the large lateral faces; a conductive element constituted by two separate flat connection tongues, situated in the same plane and pluggable by the lower ends, and by a fusible part connecting the upper ends of said tongues; a cover capable of closing said open face of the support body; latching pins provided on the other closed lateral face of the support body and each inserting into an orifice provided in each connection tab, said latching pins having crimped free ends situated in a plane different from the plane of the tabs connection, and it is characterized in that the cover comprises: an internal bearing surface coming into contact on a bearing edge formed in the support body; an outer rim formed on the face opposite to that comprising the bearing surface, and orifices for the passage of the crimping pins provided on the cover of the support body.

An advantage of the present invention lies in the fact that the cover is kept at a certain distance from the internal ends of the connection tabs and from the calibrating part to allow better air circulation in said body-support, allowing the cooling of the connection tabs when they are crossed by electric current. In addition, the external rim allows correct holding of the fuse body, in particular by means of an extraction pliers, the connection of the cover to said support being ensured by the crimping pins.

Another characteristic is that the crimping pins pass through the connection tabs which reinforces the fixing of said connection tabs to the support body.

Other advantages and characteristics will appear in the claims and the description which is given by way of nonlimiting example of a preferred embodiment of the invention, as well as of the drawings in which:
  • Figure 1 is a plan view of the flat fuse closed by a cover according to the present invention.
  • Figures 2 and 3 are sectional views of the cover alone without the support body along lines II-II and III-III indicated in Figure 1.
  • Figure 4 is an enlarged plan view of the support body, the cover being removed.
  • FIGS. 5 and 6 are section views on a larger scale of the support body respectively along VV and VI-VI of FIG. 4.
  • Figures 7 to 9 are plan views of the fuse part and part of the connection tabs of the conductive element.

The flat fuse, shown in Figure 1, comprises a support body (1), a cover (2) and a conductive element of which only the plug-in lower ends (3) of the connection tabs (4) appear in Figure 1.

The cover (2) is produced according to a part molded in a strip with not shown fittings, each located at the bottom and top, in the axis of the connection tabs 4. Thus, during assembly, the strip of covers arrives perpendicular to the strip of support body which are joined together by a connector (50) located at the upper part of said support body, below the gripping means (5) of the hose. An enlarged opening (5a) is provided in the support body so as to ensure visibility of the state of the fusible part of the conductive element, the indication of the size being carried on the gripping means (5) in one appropriate place. The cover (2) comprises, in FIG. 2, a bearing surface (6) formed on the internal face (7) and an external rim (8) formed on the external face (9) of the cover, along the upper edge ( 10) so that when the cover (2) is embedded in the support body (1) as shown in FIG. 1, continuity is obtained between the gripping means (5) and the external rim (8), c that is to say that the outer face (11) of the flange (8) is located in the same plane as the outer face (12) of the gripping means (5). The shape of the cover (2) is complementary to that of the support body (1) and the external rim (8) is used to hold said fuse body using an extraction pliers.

The support body (2) which is open on one of the large lateral faces as it appears in FIG. 4, comprises on the closed face (13) opposite the open face a bearing edge (14) on which comes press the support surface (6) of the cover (2) when the latter is embedded in the support body. The support edge (14) is rectangular in shape and there are formed between its sides two cells (15) and (16) separated by a transverse reinforcing rib (17). The cells (15) and (16) make it possible to lighten the support body, the stiffening of which is obtained by means of two reinforcing ribs (18) and (19) arranged substantially in the shape of a V and directed from the edge. support (14) towards the upper part of the support body (1). Local extra thicknesses (20) provided at the upper corners of the support body (1) contribute to the positioning of the calibrating part during its mounting.

Des petits rebords d'appui (21) sont également prévus sur les petites faces latérales (22) du corps-support (1) et constituent des éléments d'appui supplémentaires pour le cache (2) et notamment pour la partie supérieure du cache sur laquelle est prévue le rebord externe (8).Small support flanges (21) are also provided on the small lateral faces (22) of the support body (1) and constitute additional support elements for the cover (2) and in particular for the upper part of the cover on which is provided the outer rim (8).

Two pins (23) for hooking and fixing the connection tabs (4), a dotted part of which is shown in FIG. 4, have come from molding on an extra thickness (24) formed at the lower part of the face ( 13) of the support body (1).

Three crimp pins (25) to (27) arranged in a triangle have also come from molding on the face (13), two of them (25) and (26) being arranged above the attachment studs (23) and on the extra thickness (24), while the third stud (27) is provided on the small upper side of the border support (14). Two small ribs (28) for reinforcing the crimping stud (27) are provided perpendicular to the rib (17) and to the short side (14a) of the bearing edge (14), one of the small ribs (28) being chamfered in (29). The upper faces of the ribs (28) and of the support edge (14) are located in the same plane (30) which is different from the plane (31) containing the free ends of the attachment studs (23), the plane (31) being shown in FIG. 5 by dotted lines. Concretely, the length of the hooking pins (23) is greater than the height of the support edge (14) when looking at FIG. 5. Likewise, the length of the crimping pins (25) to (27) is larger than that of the hooking pins (27), as can be seen in FIG. 6.

The crimp pins (25) and (26) also pass through the connection tabs (4) which ensures better fixing of the latter in the support body (1), as well as orifices (32) formed in the cover ( 2) (FIGS. 1 and 2) so as to allow the crimping zone of said studs to be contained during the fixing of said cover (2) on said support body (1). A blind cell (33) is provided on the external face (9) of the cover (2) to allow the strip of terminated flat fuses to be driven.

On the internal face of the cover (2) are provided a large cell (34) and two small cells (35), the cell (34) being designed to lighten the cover (2) while the cells (35) are intended to receive the crimped ends of the latching pins (Figure 3).

The support body (1) and the cover (2) are made of an opaque plastic material, colored in its mass and loaded with approximately 15% to 30% of glass fiber depending on the sizes, the color being for example linked to the size flat fuse.

The conductive element, the upper part of which is represented in FIGS. 7 to 9 which illustrate different configurations of the fuse part as a function of the current intensities passing through the conductive element.

In all cases, the conductive element is manufactured according to the method described in patent FR No. 82 13 847, from two suitable metal strips partially overlapping and joined along the hatched areas (36).

Thus, the three constituent parts of the flat fuse according to the invention are each produced in the form of strips or chains, a first chain of support body (1), a second chain of covers (2) and a third chain of conductive elements (4). It is easy to see that, depending on the capacity of each mounting station, it is possible to simultaneously set up a certain number of conductive elements (4) in the corresponding support bodies (1) and then, in a second station or in the same but at a later stage, several support bodies (1) are closed simultaneously with the respective covers (2). The finished fuse looks like this of a string placed in rolls comprising a very large number of fuses according to the invention, so as to ensure a continuous supply on an automatic laying station in interconnection boxes.

The fuse part can have various shapes such as for example those shown in Figures 7 to 9 which are given for information. Other forms can be envisaged.

The experiments carried out have shown that to cover the whole range of usual intensities in the automotive activity, the developed length of the fusible part was between 4 and 25 mm, the width being between 0.15 and 3 mm and the thickness between 0 , 05 and 0.50 mm.

The fuse part (40) shown in FIG. (7) and which corresponds in particular to a 2 A rating has a length between connection ends (40 a) and (40 b) of approximately 11.60 mm while the developed length is approximately 17.3 mm. The connections between the flat parts (40 c) are made by means of rounded parts (40 d) so as to avoid sharp angles or points which could be detrimental to the life of the fuse.

The fuse shown in Figure 8 corresponds in particular to the rating (10 A). The fusible part (41) is in the form of an arc of a circle whose length between the ends (41 a) and (41 b) is approximately 9.80 mm with a developed length of approximately 12.7 mm .

Finally, the fuse shown in FIG. 9 corresponds in particular to the 5 A rating. For this rating the developed length of the fuse part (42) is 13.6 mm; The fusible portion (42) only comprises segments in an arc, for example three in number, the two extreme segments (43, 44) having the same radius of curvature with a very small flat segment (45) at the top, while that the central segment (46) has a greater radius of curvature. The three segments 43, 44 and 46 are joined by curved parts for the same reasons indicated above.

In any event, the fuse part (42) is located above a line passing through said connection ends, for example 40 a and 40 b in FIG. 7 or 41 a and 41 b in FIG. 8.
