Description

The invention relates to a fastening of a round shank chisel in a bore of a chisel holder, the round shank chisel consisting of a chisel head and a chisel shank, the chisel shank having a circumferential groove with a longitudinally slotted clamping sleeve which is inserted into the bore of the holder by means of a holding member before the chisel shaft is inserted is held in a clamping position, and the chisel shaft is axially fixed after insertion into the bore of the holder with the tensioning sleeve seated in the bore under tension, but is freely rotatable.

Such a round shank chisel is known from US-A 1 475 136. The clamping sleeve extends over the most important part of the axial dimension of the chisel shank in order to obtain the largest possible support and clamping area for the clamping sleeve in the bore of the chisel holder. Such long clamping sleeves also have the advantage that a sufficiently large holding force is generated between the clamping sleeve and the bore of the bit holder. Since the retaining collar is narrow at the free end of the chisel shank and the clamping sleeve must be compressed with great force when inserting the chisel shank with the clamping sleeve into the bore of the chisel holder, considerable difficulties arise when inserting the round shank chisel of this type into a bore of a chisel holder. Special insertion devices are often provided for this purpose.

Furthermore, it is known from DE-U 82 25 157 to compress a longitudinally slotted clamping sleeve before inserting it into the holder by means of a plier-like device as far as the radial play and the slots of the clamping sleeve allow. In this state, the clamping sleeve is inserted into the bore of the holding body as far as the overall height of the pliers-like device allows. This clamping sleeve also has an annular disk which is arranged coaxially from a material which is softer than that of the cutting bit head, the inside diameter of which is not smaller than the outside diameter of the clamping sleeve in the expanded installation state and which serves to protect the end face of the holding body facing the head of the cutting bit from damage.

Finally, in the magazine "Glückauf", 1976, page A 327, a round chisel with a collar is shown, the task of which is to prevent the loss of the holding member in a type U-44 chisel.

From DE-A 34 39 491 a round shank chisel is known which has an adapter sleeve and a ring surrounding the chisel shank. The ring is made of wear-resistant material and serves only as wear protection for the chisel shaft and the collar of the hole in the chisel holder.

It is an object of the invention to provide a fastening of a round shank chisel of the type mentioned in the introduction, in which, despite the long clamping sleeve with very large clamping forces, the insertion into a bore of a chisel holder is made considerably easier.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that before the insertion of the round shank chisel, the outer diameter of the clamping sleeve is equal to or smaller than the diameter of the bore and that when the chisel shank is inserted with the clamping sleeve into the bore, the holding member in a region not covered by the clamping sleeve the chisel shaft is movable.

In the round shank chisel provided with the holding member, the clamping sleeve is prestressed to such an extent that the chisel shank with the clamping sleeve can also be pushed manually over a large part of the axial dimension into the bore of the chisel holder until, e.g. the holding member rests on the insertion side of the chisel holder. The picks can then be hammered in with a hammer blow until the chisel head stops on the chisel holder. The holding member is pushed down from the clamping sleeve and reaches an area of the chisel shank that is free of the clamping sleeve, so that the clamping sleeve can clamp with its own clamping force in the bore of the chisel holder, the clamping force increasing correspondingly with increasing driving depth.

A particularly simple embodiment is characterized in that the holding member is designed as a holding ring or holding disk which surrounds the clamping sleeve and that the inside diameter of the holding ring or holding disk is equal to or smaller than the diameter of the bore of the bit holder. Such a holding member is a simple, easy and inexpensive to manufacture part.

So that the axial dimension of the chisel shaft can be optimally used for the clamping sleeve, a further embodiment provides that the circumferential groove of the chisel shaft extends to a distance from the chisel head that is equal to or larger than the diameter of the round material used for the retaining ring or the thickness of the washer.

The chisel head of the round shank chisel can be supported on the facing end of the chisel holder if the configuration is such that the bore of the chisel holder on the insertion side has an extension which, when the chisel shank with an adapter sleeve is inserted into the bore, holds the retaining member designed as a retaining ring.

The holding member of the round shank chisel can be used as a protective disk for the end face of the chisel holder in that the holding member designed as a holding washer is arranged on the insertion side of the chisel holder when the chisel shank with clamping sleeve is inserted into the bore of the chisel holder between the bit head and the wall surrounding the bore.

If it is provided that the holding disc is made of wear-resistant material and has an outer diameter that is equal to or larger than the maximum outer diameter of the chisel head, then the holding disc serves in the area protruding beyond the chisel head as wear protection for the chisel holder.

According to a preferred embodiment is before seen that the chisel head facing the chisel shaft ends in a collar, that a hard metal insert is inserted into the chisel tip facing away from the chisel shaft and that the clamping sleeve extends essentially over the entire axial length of the chisel shaft.

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing. It shows:
  • Fig. 1 shows a round shaft bit with a holding member designed as a holding disc in the insertion position, in which the bit shaft with the clamping sleeve is inserted without bracing into the bore of a bit holder, and
  • Fig. 2 shows a round shank chisel with a holding member designed as a retaining ring in the working position with the clamping sleeve clamped in the bore of the bit holder and freely rotating chisel shaft in the clamping sleeve.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, the round shank chisel 10 adjoins the chisel head 11 of the chisel shank 14. The transition of the chisel head is designed as a collar 13, which forms the largest outer diameter of the chisel head 11. The hard metal insert 12 is inserted into the chisel tip in a known manner. On the chisel shaft 14 sits in the circumferential groove 15, the clamping sleeve 17 provided with the longitudinal slot 8. The clamping sleeve 17 extends over the most essential part of the axial dimension of the chisel shaft 14, so that the collar 16 at the free end of the chisel shaft 14 and that of the clamping sleeve 17 free area up to the chisel head 11 are very narrow. On the clamping sleeve 17, a holding disc 19 is pushed as a holding member, which clamps the clamping sleeve 17 so far that its outer diameter is equal to or smaller than the diameter of the bore 21 in the bit holder 20. The longitudinal slot 18 is so wide that the clamping sleeve 17 so can be widely compressed that its inner wall rests on the groove base of the circumferential groove 15 in the chisel shaft 14. Since the bore 21 of the chisel holder 20 is provided with an insertion extension 23, the round shank chisel 10 can easily be inserted into the bore 21 of the chisel shank 14. This insertion process can be carried out manually until the holding member 19 strikes the end of the bit holder 20. With increased effort, e.g. with a hammer blow, the round shank chisel 10 can be driven into the bore 21 until the collar 13 of the chisel head 11 is supported on the end face of the chisel holder 20 via the holding member 19. The holding member 19, which is designed as a holding disk, is pushed down from the clamping sleeve 17 into the free area of the chisel shaft 14 between the clamping sleeve 17 and the chisel head 11, so that it releases the clamping sleeve 17. The clamping sleeve 17 can now clamp with its own clamping force in the bore 21 of the bit holder 20, since in the relaxed state it would assume an outer diameter that is larger than the diameter of the bore 21 of the bit holder 20. The difference between these two diameter values determines that Clamping force of the clamping sleeve 17 and thus the force with which the round shank chisel 10 is held in the bore 21 of the chisel holder 20.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, the outer diameter of the holding disc corresponds to the maximum outer diameter of the chisel head 11 in the region of the collar 13. The holding disc serves as a protective disc for the chisel holder 20, since it absorbs the impact forces acting on the picks 10. If the outside diameter of the holding disk is increased beyond the maximum outside diameter of the chisel head 11, the entire end face of the chisel holder 20 can be protected against wear if the holding disk is made of wear-resistant material.

The embodiment of FIG. 2 differs only in the design of the holding member 19 from the embodiment of FIG. 1. FIG. 2 shows the round shank 10 in the working position. The collar 13 of the chisel head 11 lies against the end face of the chisel holder 20. The holding member 19 is designed as a retaining ring made of a round material. The bore 21 of the chisel holder 20 has in the front side facing the chisel head 11 the extension 23 which receives the retaining ring pushed down by the clamping sleeve 17. The area of the chisel shaft 14 that is free of the clamping sleeve 17 between the clamping sleeve 17 and the chisel head 11 must therefore have at least a width that corresponds to the diameter of the round material used for the retaining ring. The design of the clamping sleeve 17 and the holding ring in the diameters is carried out analogously to the embodiment according to FIG. 1, so that the clamping sleeve 17 preloaded with the holding ring can easily be inserted manually into the bore 21 of the bit holder 20 and that with the clamping sleeve 17 released by the holding ring a sufficiently large clamping force between the clamping sleeve 17 and the bore 21 of the bit holder 20 is achieved. The chisel shaft 14, on the other hand, remains freely rotatable in the clamping sleeve 17, since in the clamping position the inner diameter of the clamping sleeve 17 is larger than the diameter of the chisel shaft 14 in the region of the circumferential groove 15.

Claims (7)

1. Round-shanked bit (10), which is insertable into the bore (21) provided in a bit holder (20), comprising a bit head (11) and a bit shank (14), wherein the bit shank (14) has a circumferential groove (15) with a longitudinally slotted clamping sleeve (17), mounted therein, and a ring (19) pushed-on so as to be dis- placable on the bit shank, characterised in that the ring is pushed onto the clamping sleeve (17) as a retaining member (19) and retains said sleeve in its clamped state, wherein the external diameter of the clamping sleeve (17) is smaller than the diameter of the bore (21) provided in the bit holder, so that, by inserting the bit shank (14) into the bore (21), the retaining member (19) is stripped from the clamping sleeve (17) and the clamping sleeve (17) is exposed for the securement of the bit (10) in the bit holder (20).
2. Round-shanked bit according to claim 1, characterised in that the bit head (11) extends into a collar (13) facing the bit shank.
3. Round-shanked bit according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterised in that the circumferential groove (15) provided in the bit shank (14) extends towards the bit head (11) and terminates with a spacing therefrom, which spacing is identical to, or greater than, the diameter of the round material, used for the retaining ring, or the thickness of the retaining disc.
4. Round-shanked bit according to one of claims 2 or 3, the bit head of which has a collar, characterised in that the bore (21) provided in the bit holder (20) has, at its inlet end, a widened portion (23) which accomodates the retaining member (19), in the form of a retaining ring, when the bit shank (14) is inserted onto the bore (21) with the clamping sleeve (17).
5. Round-shanked bit according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the retaining member (19), in the form of a retaining disc, is disposed between the bit head (11) and the wall of the bit holder (20), when the bit shank (14) is inserted into the bore (21) provided in the bit holder (20) with the clamping sleeve (17).
6. Round-shanked bit according to claim 5, characterised in that the retaining disc is formed from wear-resistant material and has an external diameter which is identical to, or greater than, the maximum external diameter of the collar of the bit head (11).
