These need only be three in number, each containing a respective translucent water-based ink, the colours being respectively scarlet, cobalt blue and yellow (selected from the wide range of different indian ink colours commercially available), and the ink comprising a thin suspension or mixture of pigment in a vehicle in the form of a very fluid water based glue solution.
  • the advantage of these particular three colours is that a very wide range of other colours and shades can be obtained therefrom by appropriate mixing. It is thought that fifteen or sixteen other different colours can thereby be produced. More colours may be supplied if desired.
  • the user applies one or more of these colour washes 30,40,50 over the paint-receiving surface of the board 10, to cover the whole or part or parts of the base layer areas 12 according to how his fancy may take him. It is not essential to confine the wash or washes to specific portions of the base layer 12 and application of the wash or washes over areas of the varnish, which provides a background to the pictorial content, is of no consequence. So soon as the wash dries or the washes dry, it is virtually impossible to detect the edges thereof on the dark grained background. In other words, the appearance of the non-covered varnish so closely matches the dried colour wash, where the latter overlies the varnish, that the transitions therebetween cannot be seen, even if the finished picture is held at an angle to a light source.
  • the indentations forming the grain in the surface of the board serve the function of promoting flow of the translucent colour applied to the adjacent regions of the grained surface, and enable textured, wrinkled, graduated and other effects readily to be achieved, even by very young children. Skill and care is not necessary, and every user can quickly and easily produce a finished coloured painting of pleasing and acceptable appearance in a very little time. Spillage of one or more of the washes onto the paint receiving surface does not spoil the product. Large excesses can, of course, simply be wiped away with a tissue or the like, but small amounts and residues after wiping can simply be brushed to appropriate locations on the paint-receiving surface to colour the base layer or portions thereof as desired.
  • the invention is not confined to the precise details of the foregoing example and variations may be made thereto, as will be evident to those skilled in the art.
  • the invention may, in fact, be carried out using transparent oil-based colours or washes.
  • the varnish surface coating on the board need not be black as long as it is relatively dark in hue e.g. brown, dark blue, dark green, maroon, purple, and the pictorial base layer need not be white as long as it is lighter in colour than the underlying varnish e.g. pink, pale blue, cream etc.
  • the grained appearance of the embossed paint-receiving surface of the support sheet need not resemble leather, but may bear some other suitable pattern, such as cross-hatching or resembling hessian weave or buffalo hide.
  • the support sheet or board may be initially devoid of pictorial content, and screen printing apparatus may be provided as part of the kit to enable the user to select and apply his own base layer picture prior to application of colour washes.

Claims (10)

  1. Tableau comprenant une feuille de support (10) présentant une surface de réception et de retenue de peinture uniforme de couleur sombre et présentant, sur au moins une partie de celui-ci, un contenu d'images constitué par des zones d'une couche de base appliquée (12) d'une couleur qui est plus claire que ladite surface précitée de façon à être visible sur celle-ci, au moins une couche translucide de couleur formant lavis (20, 30, 40) appliquée sur toute ou une partie ou des parties de la surface recevant et retenant la peinture de façon à modifier l'apparence de celle-ci et/ou la couleur des zones de couche de base, caractérisé en ce que la surface recevant et retenant la peinture de couleur sombre est brillante et bosselée pour présenter une apparence granulée.
  2. Tableau selon la revendication 1, dans lequel la surface brillante est un revêtement réalisé par un vernis de couleur sombre.
  3. Tableau selon la revendication 1 ou la revendication 2, dans lequel la surface brillante est noire.
  4. Tableau selon la revendication 1, 2 ou 3, dans lequel le contenu d'images est réalisé par des zones d'une couche de base de couleur claire appliquée sur la surface brillante.
  5. Tableau selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel l'apparence granulée de la surface recevant la peinture de la planche ressemble à du cuir ou à une imitation cuir.
  6. Procédé de réalisation d'un tableau en utilisant une feuille de support (10) présentant une surface recevant et retenant une peinture de couleur sombre, ledit procédé comprenant les étapes consistant à appliquer un contenu d'images à ladite surface par l'application de zones d'une couche de base (12) qui est d'une couleur qui est plus claire que ladite surface de façon à être visible sur celle-ci, et à appliquer ensuite une ou plusieurs couches translucides de couleur formant lavis (20, 30, 40) sur toute ou une partie ou des parties de la surface recevant et retenant la peinture de façon à modifier l'apparence de celle-ci et/ou la couleur des zones de couche de base, caractérisé en ce que la surface recevant et retenant la peinture de couleur sombre est réalisée de façon à être brillante et est bosselée pour avoir une apparence granulée avant l'application de la couche de base (12).
  7. Procédé selon la revendication 6, dans lequel les couches de couleur formant lavis sont appliquées à la brosse.
  8. Procédé selon la revendication 6 ou 7, dans lequel les couches de couleur formant lavis sont choisies et/ou mélangées, comme cela est souhaité, à partir de trois stocks ou réserves de couches formant lavis qui sont constituées de solutions à colle à base d'eau équivalent aux encres de Chine des couleurs écarlate, bleu cobalt et jaune.
  9. Tableau lorsqu'il est produit suivant le procédé revendiqué dans la revendication 6, 7 ou 8.
  10. Kit de peinture conçu pour la mise en oeuvre du procédé tel que revendiqué dans les revendications 6, 7 ou 8 et comprenant une ou plusieurs feuilles de support (10) dont chacune a une surface recevant et retenant une peinture qui est réalisée par une surface brillante de couleur sombre, ladite surface ayant été bosselée pour présenter une apparence granulée et sur laquelle on a appliqué un contenu d'images réalisé par des zones appliquées d'une couche de base (12) d'une couleur qui est plus claire que le revêtement de surface de façon à être visible sur celle-ci en combinaison avec un ou plusieurs récipients contenant chacun un milieu respectif translucide de couleur formant lavis (20, 30, 40), telle qu'une encre ou un milieu de coloration à l'eau, et une ou plusieurs brosses pour permettre l'application du milieu de couleur formant lavis sur l'ensemble ou une partie ou des parties de la surface de réception.
