Definitions
- the invention relates to a knife shaft for a planer according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- the self-locking centrifugal wedge lies in the direction of flight behind the knife directly on the knife.
- the profiling of the knife positively engages in a corresponding profiling of the side wall of the groove.
- This lamellar structure is subject to inaccuracies due to tolerances, which are exacerbated by reduced bending stiffness and recurring unbalance problems. Depending on the type of wood to be processed, they can affect the surface quality of the workpiece. This limits the scope.
- Another disadvantage of the lamella structure is the risk of crevice corrosion. Due to the arrangement of the centrifugal wedge behind the knife, the critical cross-section behind the centrifugal wedge is very narrow and therefore tends to so-called bending or rearing up.
- Wood cutting machines started using cheap disposable knives several years ago to avoid the time-consuming regrinding of the knives. From DE-OS 25 59 406 it is also known to use profiled disposable knives which engage in a form-fitting manner in tongue and groove connection in correspondingly profiled counter surfaces and are more precisely fixable and easier to replace compared to the previously known perforated disposable knives .
- the centrifugal wedge rests with one clamping surface on a side wall of the groove and with the other wedge surface on the retaining strip.
- the centrifugal wedge whose wedge angle is obviously far outside the self-locking range, is pushed outwards by a spring.
- the holding strip is displaceable in the transverse direction relative to the shaft body in order to enable the knife to be changed - in one exemplary embodiment under spring pressure.
- Various auxiliary devices are obviously required to change the knife and to adjust the new knife. Since the position of the knife depends on the exact fit of several interlocking parts, tolerance-related inaccuracies can add up. Such inevitable inaccuracies may be portable in cutting machines for which the knives are intended according to DE-OS 25 59 406. However, planer machines place far higher demands on accuracy.
- DE-OS 34 12 251 relates to a knife holder for the knife shaft of a wood cutting machine, in which axially parallel, narrowing towards the lateral surface grooves with radially inner groove base each a knife clamped by a centrifugal wedge sits. This is connected by screws with two slotted perforated plates and a pressure bar to form an assembly. In the operating state, a clamping strip sits between the pressure strip and the centrifugal wedge, which, together with two clamping strip springs and a clamping strip foot screwed to the base of the groove, forms a second assembly.
- the pressure bar and the clamping bar are provided with interlocking profiles.
- the two clamping bar springs spring up, which opens the play-free connection between the pressure bar and the clamping bar to such an extent that the assembly to which the knife belongs can be removed radially.
- the invention has for its object to provide a knife shaft according to the preamble of claim 1, which is easy to manufacture while maintaining the form-fitting holder of the disposable knife.
- the retaining strip is arranged at such a distance from the side wall of the groove that, when the centrifugal wedge is released, an intermediate knife can be easily pulled out in the longitudinal direction and a new knife can be inserted practically without play.
- the centrifugal wedge When the centrifugal wedge generates the clamping force by rotation, the retaining strip is pressed against the disposable knife by slight elastic deformation, so that it is immovably fixed.
- the disposable knife is in direct contact with the solid shaft body. This ensures a tight fit.
- the back of the knife rests on the groove wall; this makes the critical cross-section behind the knife stiffer against so-called bending or rearing up.
- the feature of claim 5 ensures that the retaining bar remains immovable in the long run.
- the feature of claim 6 prevents the attachment from loosening at a standstill. This eliminates the need for additional tensioning elements, such as springs or the like.
- the feature of claim 7 enables the centrifugal wedge to be pretensioned in the idle state.
- the clamping force can be reduced if necessary.
- the drawing serves to explain the invention on the basis of two simplified exemplary embodiments.
- the performance examples each show a partial cross section of the knife shaft according to the invention.
- a shaft body 1 made of solid material several axially parallel grooves 2 narrowing towards the outer surface are provided at uniform angular intervals.
- One side wall 3 of the groove 2 includes an angle ⁇ of approximately 30 ° with the associated radius.
- the side wall 3 is referred to in the following as “rear side wall” because it lies at the rear, in relation to the direction of flight symbolized by the arrow A.
- the other side wall 4, the "front side wall” is radial or approximately radial.
- the bottom of the groove consists of two strips 5, 6 of approximately equal width which are offset from one another in steps, each of which forms a right angle with the adjacent side wall 3 or 4 of the groove 2.
- the skirting board 7 is immovable on the strip 5 of the groove base lying at right angles to the rear side wall 3 screwed tight.
- the screws 9 are secured by adhesive.
- the baseboard 7 is only as wide as is necessary for the attachment of the screws 9. It is relatively thick; their thickness corresponds to about half the width. It is therefore practically non-deformable.
- the holding strip 8 is plane-parallel to the rear side wall 3 and extends over its full height to the outer surface of the shaft body 1. It is much wider than the baseboard 7 and about half as thick. It is therefore elastically deformable under the action of a strong force, although the bending stiffness is quite high.
- a disposable knife 10 is clamped, which is designed in the usual way as a reversible knife with two cutting edges 11, 12.
- One cutting edge 11 protrudes a little from the cylindrical outer surface of the shaft body 1.
- the disposable knife 10 has a groove 13 on the side which bears against the retaining strip 8.
- the surface of the retaining strip 8 facing the knife is provided with a tongue 14, the width of which corresponds exactly to the groove 13, so that the tongue 14 fits positively into the Groove 13 engages.
- the back of the disposable knife 10 lying directly against the rear side wall 3 is completely flat.
- a centrifugal wedge 15 with the clamping surfaces 16, 17 is suitably seated.
- the clamping surface 16 is wide and therefore lies against the front side wall 4 almost at its entire height.
- the other clamping surface 17 is narrow and only lies directly opposite the disposable knife 10 on the front of the retaining strip 8.
- the shortening of the clamping surface 17 is brought about by two arcuate recesses 18, 19 arranged at a corner.
- the one recess 18, which adjoins the bevelled narrow end face 20 of the retaining strip 8, forms a chip pocket in front of the cutting edge 11.
- the other recess 19 is necessary considering screws 9.
- relatively narrow webs 21 and 22 run.
- the outer web 21 is in tension State almost flush with the lateral surface of the shaft body 1.
- the inner web 22 lies plane-parallel above the strip 6 of the groove base at a short distance.
- the centrifugal wedge 15 can be made of steel, but also of light metal if a reduced clamping force is desired.
- the centrifugal wedge 15 is first released by applying force against the web 21.
- the retaining strip 8 which is slightly deformed in the tensioned state in the direction of the disposable knife 10, returns to its relaxed position.
- centrifugal wedge 15 is designed to be self-locking, it remains in the tensioned state even after the knife shaft has stopped.
- the clamping surface of the centrifugal wedge 25, which faces the front side wall 4 of the groove 2 is provided in the middle with a wide longitudinal groove 26, so that only the edge zones 27, 28 abut.
- the centrifugal wedge 25 there are several radial adjusting screws 29 distributed over the length, which are supported on the bottom of the groove. With the help of the set screws 29, a certain preload can be generated even in the idle state.
- FIG. 2 is the same as the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1 except for minor structural deviations.
- One of these deviations is that the lateral mating surfaces of the tongue and groove connection between the disposable knife and the retaining strip are chamfered.
Description
The invention relates to a knife shaft for a planer according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
According to EP-A1-0 117 991, from which the invention is based, the self-locking centrifugal wedge lies in the direction of flight behind the knife directly on the knife. The profiling of the knife positively engages in a corresponding profiling of the side wall of the groove. With this knife shaft, the knife can be pulled out or pushed into the groove from one end in the longitudinal direction after loosening the centrifugal wedge. The adjustment is carried out automatically by the interlocking of the profiled surfaces. This makes knife changing very easy and can be carried out by untrained personnel in a short time. However, these advantages are paid for by a disadvantage: Unfortunately, the shape of the groove is so complicated that it is not possible to manufacture the shaft body from one piece. The shaft body is therefore made up of stamped metal sheets, which are lined up on an axial tube and clamped between two end plates.
This lamellar structure is subject to inaccuracies due to tolerances, which are exacerbated by reduced bending stiffness and recurring unbalance problems. Depending on the type of wood to be processed, they can affect the surface quality of the workpiece. This limits the scope. Another disadvantage of the lamella structure is the risk of crevice corrosion. Due to the arrangement of the centrifugal wedge behind the knife, the critical cross-section behind the centrifugal wedge is very narrow and therefore tends to so-called bending or rearing up.
Wood cutting machines started using cheap disposable knives several years ago to avoid the time-consuming regrinding of the knives. From DE-OS 25 59 406 it is also known to use profiled disposable knives which engage in a form-fitting manner in tongue and groove connection in correspondingly profiled counter surfaces and are more precisely fixable and easier to replace compared to the previously known perforated disposable knives .
According to the specified DE-OS, the centrifugal wedge rests with one clamping surface on a side wall of the groove and with the other wedge surface on the retaining strip. On the back of the disposable knife there is a clamping strip, which fits positively on the other side wall of the groove. The centrifugal wedge, whose wedge angle is obviously far outside the self-locking range, is pushed outwards by a spring.
The holding strip is displaceable in the transverse direction relative to the shaft body in order to enable the knife to be changed - in one exemplary embodiment under spring pressure. Various auxiliary devices are obviously required to change the knife and to adjust the new knife.
The pressure bar and the clamping bar are provided with interlocking profiles. If one presses the centrifugal wedge radially inwards against a spring assembly, the two clamping bar springs spring up, which opens the play-free connection between the pressure bar and the clamping bar to such an extent that the assembly to which the knife belongs can be removed radially.
The invention has for its object to provide a knife shaft according to the preamble of claim 1, which is easy to manufacture while maintaining the form-fitting holder of the disposable knife.
This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1. The retaining strip is arranged at such a distance from the side wall of the groove that, when the centrifugal wedge is released, an intermediate knife can be easily pulled out in the longitudinal direction and a new knife can be inserted practically without play. When the centrifugal wedge generates the clamping force by rotation, the retaining strip is pressed against the disposable knife by slight elastic deformation, so that it is immovably fixed.

The drawing serves to explain the invention on the basis of two simplified exemplary embodiments. The performance examples each show a partial cross section of the knife shaft according to the invention.
In the cylindrical outer surface of a shaft body 1 made of solid material, several axially
In the
Die andere, in Reserve befindliche Schneide 12 liegt etwa in der Mitte der Halteleiste 8.In the narrow gap between the
The
In the wedge-shaped space between the
To replace the
This loosens the seat of the
Then a new knife is inserted in the longitudinal direction from the front of the knife shaft. As soon as the knife shaft is set into rapid rotation, the centrifugal wedge 15 is tightened by centrifugal force. The disposable knife is now clamped exactly. Since the centrifugal wedge 15 is designed to be self-locking, it remains in the tensioned state even after the knife shaft has stopped.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the clamping surface of the
Otherwise, the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 2 is the same as the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1 except for minor structural deviations. One of these deviations is that the lateral mating surfaces of the tongue and groove connection between the disposable knife and the retaining strip are chamfered.
