Abstract

PCT No. PCT/CH87/00037 Sec. 371 Date Dec. 9, 1987 Sec. 102(e) Date Dec. 9, 1987 PCT Filed Mar. 27, 1987 PCT Pub. No. WO87/06276 PCT Pub. Date Oct. 22, 1987.A device for treating fibers includes a cylindrical support having an axis of rotation. The support has a circular outer peripheral surface and carries a set of combs which extend parallel to the rotational axis of the support. The combs are mounted on the support in such a way that the spine of each comb is held by the support with the teeth located radially outward of the peripheral surface of the support. The spines of the combs all project radially outward of such peripheral surface by the same distance.

Description

The present invention relates to an opening roller according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such an opening roller is described in GB-PS 2 556 090. The comb strips of the opening combs, which are predominantly circular in cross section, are rotatably supported about their longitudinal axis in corresponding grooves in the cylindrical roller part and are held in a certain pivot position by exchangeable, removable plates of a certain shape. Instead of having several opening rollers with different needle inclinations for different fiber materials in stock, it is sufficient with this older device to have different plates for different needle inclinations in stock. However, this known opening roller is so complex to manufacture that it is less expensive to keep a suitable opening roller in stock for each fiber material. The advantage of this is that if defective needles occur, the roller does not have to be thrown away, but that the opening combs can be replaced individually without the roller having to be re-balanced.

Andere Öffnerwalzen dieser Art sind beispielsweise in DE-A 2 045 863, DE-A 2 159 230, DE-A 2 520 706, EP-A 178 614, CS-A 161 414, CS-A 161 415, JP-A 46-24661, JP-A 51-53297, JP-A 57-74987 und JP-A 61-59676 beschrieben. Other opening rolls of this type are, for example, in DE-A 2 045 863, DE-A 2 159 230, DE-A 2 520 706, EP-A 178 614, CS-A 161 414, CS-A 161 415, JP-A 46 -24661, JP-A 51-53297, JP-A 57-74987 and JP-A 61-59676. In order to improve the opening of the fibers and thus to reduce the number of defects in the subsequently spun yarn, various means have been proposed to support the detachment of the fibers from the opening roller and the feeding to the spinning rotor. To this end, for example, CS-A 161 414 shows toothed ejector elements arranged between the opening combs. Through this Measure should also reduce the friction between the fibers and the comb strips, for which purpose the strips in the toothed ejector elements protrude further in the radial direction over the lateral surface of the cylindrical part of the roller than the comb strips in the opener combs. In the opening roller according to CS-A 161 415, the following opening combs have an increasing radial extension over the lateral surface of the cylindrical part, as a result of which the fibers are forced outwards and are therefore more easily separated from the opening roller. Radial holes are also known in the lateral surface of the cylindrical part (for example FR-A 1 295 871) in order to separate the fibers from the opening roller with a radial air flow.

However, all the suggestions contained in the aforementioned prior art brought only minor improvements to the yarn produced in the open-end spinning process.

The object of the present invention is to improve an opening roller of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that an improvement in quality can be achieved while maintaining the advantage of a simple structure in the case of different yarns produced in the open spinning process.

According to the invention, the object is achieved by the characterizing features of claim 1.

The two- or three-part opening roller in FIG. 1 has a cylindrical part 1, the circumference of which is occupied by needles or teeth 2 in parallel rows. Fixed to this part 1 is an annular disc 3, in the inner circumference of which a bayonet groove 4 is cut. Furthermore, a stub shaft 5 belongs to the opening roller, which is rotatably mounted in a bearing (not shown) and on which a ring disk 6 and a sleeve 7 are arranged in a rotationally fixed manner. The cuff 7 carries 8 bayonet cams at the free end, which can be connected to the bayonet groove 4. When assembling the opening roller, the sleeve 7 is inserted into the ring disk 3 and rotated until the ring disk 6 is held firmly against the side of the cylindrical part 1.

Parallel slots or grooves 9 are provided in the cylindrical part 1. In each of these a comb strip 10 carrying the needles or teeth 2 is shaped, force and / or firmly attached. A comb strip 10 forms an opening comb 14 with the associated teeth 2. The needles or teeth 2 are preferably pointed. The comb strips 10 can consist of plastic or metal and can be held in the slots 9 with a friction fit or glue connection. You can also (Fig. 4 and 5) designed on the foot with a dovetail cross-section and held in a correspondingly shaped groove 9, the comb 10 together with the teeth 2 consists of one piece. In this embodiment, the comb strips 10 - when the ring disk 6 is removed - are pushed out of the slots or grooves 9 laterally and damaged needles or rows of teeth can be replaced in this way without the need to re-balance the opening roller. The height of the teeth 2 is preferably the same. It is at least 1.5 millimeters, preferably 2 to 4 millimeters.

As the drawing shows, the comb strips 10 protrude uniformly over the circumference of the cylindrical part 1, it being possible for at least one opening 11 to be present in this protruding part. The comb strips 10 protrude at least 1 millimeter (reference number 13) from the outer surface of the cylindrical part 1, the openings 11 being always oriented in the direction of rotation, regardless of the inclination of the teeth 2. When a fiber strand is opened, these openings 11 cause an air flow which reduces the friction between fiber and metal and consequently the formation of abrasion dust and the deposition of fiber abrasion on the roller.

The needles or teeth 2 are connected to the comb strip 10 in such a way that after installation in the opening roller they are either at right angles to the direction of rotation (radially oriented) or inclined in the direction of rotation. The design of the needle or tooth trimmings on the drum can of course be selected according to the fiber material to be processed.

As indicated in Fig. 5 with a dashed line and shown in Figs. 3, 6 and 7 with solid lines, the comb strip 10 between the needles or teeth 2 may have a concave curve 12. The fact that the upper edge of the comb strips 10 is raised above the outer surface of the cylindrical part 1 means that the contact area between the opening roller on the one hand and the fiber material on the other hand is very small (since the fiber material does not touch the outer surface of the cylindrical part 1) , which consequently reduces damage to the fibers accordingly.

For teeth 2 according to FIG. 6, an apex angle A of at least 10 ° is preferably selected. The radial distance 13 of the teeth 2 or the upper edge of the comb strip 10 from the lateral surface of the cylindrical part 1 is at least 1 millimeter.

Although the advantageous effect of the openings 11 cannot be conclusively explained physically, it is assumed that they bring about a more favorable air stratification or a better air flow between the outer surface of the cylindrical part 1 on the one hand and the nonwoven fabric on the other hand. The openings 11 presumably reduce the air turbulence behind the rows of teeth and thereby favor the tendency to align the fibers in parallel. It has been shown that the openings 11 bring about an improvement in themselves.

In the known opener rolls, a 40 millimeter fiber touches the peripheral surface at a speed of 7,000 rpm, a roll radius of 30 millimeters and a fleece feed rate of 34 cm / min the opening roller over a length of approximately 110 meters. With the opening roller according to the invention, the frictional contact between the outer surface of the cylindrical part 1 and the fibers is avoided and limited to the upper narrow sides of the comb strips, which reduces the contact length to approximately 35 meters. This reduction in the length of friction creates a significant improvement in the quality of the spun yarn. The improved combing effect of the opening roller according to the invention also allows the speed to be reduced significantly without thereby impairing the opening of the nonwoven fabric. Which shortens the contact length to around 25 meters.

The opening roller described above significantly reduces the number of defects per 100,000 meters of spun yarn in an open-end spinning machine compared to known opening rollers. Fig. 8 shows the speed of the opening roller on the abscissa and the number of defects in the spun yarn on the ordinate. The upper curve shows the number of errors of a known opening roller as a function of its speed, whereas the lower curve shows the number of errors of an opening roller according to the invention. This comparison shows that the number of errors is reduced considerably, especially at lower opening roller operating speeds.
