Abstract

The invention relates to a sanitary unit having an automatic cleansing cycle. The unit comprises a lockable enclosure in which a partition defines a usage zone and a maintenance zone. A bowl is mounted for rotation between a utilization position in which it projects horizontally from the partition in said usage zone and a cleaning position in which it is tipped up into an opening in the partition so as to empty it into the maintenance zone. The upwards opening of the bowl is separated into two sections by a partition wall which extends upwardly to cooperate with the front walls of the bowl to form a rim surrounding the utilization section of the bowl. The bottom of the partition wall stops short of the base of the bowl to define an orifice and the rear section of the bowl forms an evacuation passage from the evacuation orifice rearwards to the maintenance zone when the bowl is tipped up.

Description

The present invention relates to sanitary modules with automatic cleaning, that is to say sanitary modules which can be implemented in public or semi-public places and whose cleaning operations are controlled automatically when the user has left the enclosure of said module. We know in particular sanitary modules whose use is chargeable and which constitute an autonomous construction unit which can be set up in any unprotected place, such as a sidewalk or a public place. These sanitary modules of known type comprise a closed enclosure which comprises a partition defining two zones, a zone of use into which users enter and whose access is generally controlled by a toll gate and a technical zone prohibited to users.

A bowl is disposed along the partition and is rotatably mounted about an axis parallel to said partition so as to pivot between a position of use in which the bowl is substantially horizontal along said partition and a cleaning position in which this bowl is brought vertically into an opening of said partition, so as to be oriented towards the technical area which includes cleaning elements. In these sanitary modules, the bowl does not have any dump opening and the bowl is emptied into a discharge chute and cleaned when it is in the cleaning position, the materials it contains flowing through- above the rear edge of the bezel.

There is a certain reluctance of users to use these sanitary modules known for a number of reasons. First of all, the bowl has an unusual appearance which differs from the known type of toilet, in which the bowl has either a drainage siphon or a lower drainage opening controlled by a folding flap.

The sanitary modules with automatic cleaning which have just been described are generally for public use and there is a distrust of the users with regard to the cleaning carried out after each use taking into account the fact that this cleaning is carried out automatically when the user left the enclosure. The reluctance comes in particular from the fact that the user does not himself order the cleaning and that he does not even see how this cleaning is carried out.

Another problem lies in the fact that the rear upper edge of the bowl constitutes both the weir for the materials contained in the bowl and the rear part of the window; it follows that this rear edge must be carefully cleaned, which is actually done, but given the fact that the user does not know how the cleaning is carried out, this further increases his distrust. This reluctance generally leads the users of such public sanitary modules to use them "Turkish" although they are "English" toilets, the user wanting to avoid contact with the toilet.

The cleaning operations are preceded by a tilting movement of the bowl which presents a danger to a person who would unfortunately be in the enclosure during the cleaning operations; this is why we are led to have complex security devices that can detect the presence of a person in the area of use. These safety devices are expensive and moreover it is difficult to prevent all possible accidents. Therefore, it is desirable to provide a cleaning system whose operation does not present a danger by itself.

The present invention relates to a sanitary module of the type which has just been described which does not have the aforementioned drawbacks.

The sanitary module according to the present invention is particularly remarkable in that the upper opening of the bowl is separated into two sections by a wall substantially parallel to the above-mentioned partition, extending towards the bottom of the bowl, stopping at the above the latter; the upper face of this wall forms the rear part of the telescope so as to provide, on the one hand, a use section, and on the other hand, a discharge section, the opening of which comes into communication with a chute when the bowl is in the cleaning position.

In this way, while maintaining a bowl having no lower discharge orifice, two zones are arranged, a zone of use comprising in particular the window, the rear part of which is constituted by the aforementioned wall, and a zone serving the evacuation of the materials contained in the bowl. Furthermore, the fact that the presence of the partition wall, the bowl then has an appearance reminiscent of bowls of known type which are provided with a drain siphon.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the sanitary module includes a cleaning and drying ramp which is arranged in the technical area so as to be in front of the window when the bowl is in the cleaning position; advantageously, a cleaning device is also provided which is movable between two positions, a rest position and a cleaning position in which it passes through said cleaning ramp and enters the section of use of the bowl when the latter is in cleaning position. This cleaning device is for example constituted by blades provided with nozzles and driven in rotation by the pressure of the liquid which is sent to them. This makes it possible to carry out a perfect cleaning of the telescope, in particular due to the drying carried out, as well as of the section of use which is the only visible of the user.

According to yet another characteristic of the invention, all of the mobile elements of the sanitary module are driven from a single motor acting on a kinematic chain; a torque limiter is provided upstream of the kinematic chain so as to limit the forces exerted by the various moving elements to a level such that an accident cannot occur, even if a user is, for example, trapped in the movement of the different moving elements.

According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the cleaning cycle can be triggered by the user from inside the area of use; in addition, the sanitary module compotes a display device which disseminates information on the progress of the cleaning cycle. In this way, one can overcome any distrust of the users as for the effectiveness of the cleaning since one can make it take place in front of one and that the course of this cleaning is exposed by means of the display device which is for example arranged in the partition above the bowl. It is obvious that the possibility of running the cleaning cycle when the user is present in the area of use is made possible by the absolute safety measure that constitutes the aforementioned torque limiter.

La face supérieure 5 de la paroi 3 constitue la partie postérieure de la lunette 6 de la cuvette sur laquelle l'usager s'assoit puisqu'il s'agit d'un module sanitaire dit "à l'anglaise".Figures 1 to 3 show an important element of the invention, namely the bowl which is also seen in section in Figures 4 to 7. It is seen in particular in these figures that the bottom of the bowl 1 does not include 'discharge opening; in fact this bowl is devoid of any discharge orifice. According to the invention, its upper opening 2 is divided into two parts by a partition wall 3 which is perpendicular to the axis of symmetry 4 of the bowl; this partition wall extends from the level of the opening 2 towards the bottom 1 of the bowl, stopping above the latter. The upper face 5 of the wall 3 constitutes the rear part of the bezel 6 of the bowl on which the user sits since it is a sanitary module called "English-style".

As can be seen in particular in Figures 2 to 7, the partition wall 3 defines two sections in the upper opening 2 of the bowl, namely a section of use 7 which is only visible to the user and a discharge section 8 which, as can be seen in FIGS. 4 and 6, opens into the technical zone 9 of the sanitary module when the bowl is in the horizontal position of use and therefore cannot be seen by the users.

As can be seen in Figures 4 to 7, the bowl 11 is arranged in a closed enclosure whose access is controlled by a coin mechanism; this enclosure is divided into two by a partition 12 so as to delimit a zone of use 13 which is only accessible to the user and a technical zone 9 which comprises in particular all of the cleaning elements with their mechanical drives. The bowl 11 is disposed along the partition 12, its axis of symmetry 4 being perpendicular to the latter and, as indicated above, only the use section 7 is located in the use area 13 while the bowl is located horizontally in the use position; the rear part of the bowl 11 which in particular comprises the discharge section 8 is located in an opening in the partition 12 and projects into the technical zone 9.

The bowl 11 is movable in rotation around a horizontal axis of rotation 14 which is parallel to the partition 12. In the first position, the position of use which is shown in Figures 4 and 6, the bowl is arranged horizontally, that is to say that its bezel 6 is horizontal and taking into account the duct 15 which is arranged between the rear part 16 of the bowl and the wall 3 and connecting the discharge section 8 to the free space 17 remaining below the wall 3, l user with the impression that it is a well-known type of bowl comprising a siphon.

The bowl 11 can pivot about a quarter of a turn around the axis 14 to reach its cleaning position which is shown in Figures 5 and 7; in this position, the discharge section 7 is in communication with a funnel-shaped discharge chute 18 which opens into a pipe 19, for example a wastewater pipe. Consequently, in this position, the content of the bowl 11 is discharged into the pipe 19.

In view of the fact that there is no siphon, a valve 21 is provided which closes the communication between the conduit 19 and the chute 18 when the bowl is in the position of use (figs. 4 and 6) in order to avoid the propagation of odors coming from the pipe 19. A mechanism which will be described later makes it possible to open this valve 21 when the bowl is in the cleaning position as shown in FIGS. 5 and 7.

In the technical zone 9, a washing and drying ramp 22 is provided which is substantially circular, its shape corresponding to the shape of the bezel 6. This cleaning ramp 22 is arranged in the technical zone so that it either facing the bezel 6 when the bowl 11 is found in cleaning position. This ramp is provided with spray nozzles which are intended to spray on the telescope 6 liquid cleaning and disinfection products. This ramp 22 further comprises a device for drying the telescope, this device being able advantageously to use the same nozzles as for cleaning. According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, the drying can be carried out by suction instead of air blowing.

As can be seen in Figures 6 and 7, the partition 12 has an opening 23 which is disposed above the bowl when the latter is in the use position; this opening 23 is used for the passage of the front part 25 of the bowl when the latter pivots to come into the cleaning position and it is normally closed by a flap 24 which disappears during the rotational movement. In the example shown, this flap is movable in translation vertically along the partition 12 to come into the position shown in Figure 7; this translational movement is obtained by a mechanism which will be described below.

As can be seen in FIGS. 6 and 7, a cleaning device 26 is placed in the technical zone 9 when the bowl is in the use position and comes through the ramp 22 to enter the use section 7 of the bowl when it is in the cleaning position. This cleaning device 26 advantageously consists of two blades 27 and 28 mounted for rotation on a support arm 29 and provided with spray nozzles. Blades of this type are used for example in dishwashing machines and their rotation is controlled by the pressure of water sent into the cleaning nozzles. The movement mechanism of the arm 29 will be described below.

As can be seen in Figures 4 and 5, one can advantageously provide a washing ramp 31 which is arranged along the internal wall of the chute 18 and which is intended for cleaning the latter.

The operation of the various devices which have just been described has been shown schematically in the two series of FIGS. 4 and 5 on the one hand and 6 and 7 on the other hand for reasons of clarity. When the bowl 11 is in the use position, the valve 21 closes the communication between the chute 18 and the pipe 19, the flap 24 is in the closed position (fig. 6) and the cleaning device is in the technical area 9 (fig. 6). When the bowl pivots to come into the cleaning position, the flap 24 slides upwards, the valve 21 opens and the cleaning device 26 enters the use section 7 of the bowl 11. The ramps 22 and 31 are put into action as well as the cleaning device 26; a cleaning effect is therefore obtained in the use section 7 on the bezel 6 and in the funnel chute 18. The ramp 22 furthermore performs a drying operation of the bezel 6 and when this is finished, the bowl returns to the position of use.

The user who can then enter the enclosure of the sanitary module finds a perfectly clean and dry bezel and a section of use, which is the only visible for him, clean.

We will now describe in detail the drive mechanisms of the various mobile elements which have just been described with reference to Figures 4 to 8. According to the invention, all mobile elements of the sanitary module are driven from a single motor, for example an electric motor, which acts on a kinematic chain which includes devices for driving the different mobile elements. To prevent the movement of each of the mobile elements from constituting a danger for a user who would be in the area of use during the cleaning phase, a torque limiter is provided which is arranged upstream of the aforementioned kinematic chain of such that when an abnormally high force occurs for one of the movements provided for in the cleaning cycle, the kinematic chain is stopped. By adjusting the threshold of the torque limiter it is possible to obtain that no dangerous force can be exerted by one of the mobile elements of the module on a user in the area of use.

Advantageously, it is also possible to provide safety devices detecting abnormal movements of the flap 24 and controlling the stopping of the drive motor; one can for example provide a microswitch placed behind the shutter 24 and detecting a pushing movement on the latter and spreading a similar detector arranged on the descent path of the shutter 24 and detecting the introduction of an object into the opening 23 during the cleaning cycle.

Advantageously, the motor directly drives the bowl 11 in rotation and all the other movements are obtained by means of the bowl 11; in this case the torque limiter is placed directly on the motor shaft.

If one refers to FIGS. 4 and 5, one can see at 41 a fixed pulley which is driven directly by the motor with the interposition of the torque limiter; this pulley drives through a belt 42 another pulley 43 which is integral with the bowl 11 and mounted on the axis of rotation 14 of the latter. As can be seen in Figure 5, the rotation of the pulley 41 counterclockwise causes the bowl to tilt from the use position to the washing position.

The latter is movable in translation horizontally and it is actuated by a system of two connecting rods 44 and 45 which are articulated around a fixed axis 46. The free end of the connecting rod 44 is articulated on the valve 21 and the free end of the connecting rod 45 carries an idler roller 47. Furthermore, the rear face of the bowl 11 has a cylindrical part 48 which is centered on the axis of rotation 14 of the bowl and which serves as a raceway for the idler roller 47. A housing 49 is arranged in the cylindrical part 48 so as to receive the roller 47 when the bowl 11 is in the position of use. The whole of this drive device is subjected to a restoring force which tends to rotate the connecting rod 45 anticlockwise, that is to say so as to bring the valve 21 back. closed position. During the rotation of the bowl 11 and, in particular, of its cylindrical part 48, the roller 47 is firstly driven by the housing 49 from which it emerges to come and roll on the cylindrical part 48 which makes it possible to obtain the complete opening of the valve. When the bowl 11 returns to its position of use, the roller first rolls on the surface 48 then it enters the housing 49 under the effect of the return device to return to the position shown in the figure 4.

As explained above, the materials contained in the bowl 11 flow into the chute 18 by passing over the rear part of the bowl 11, that is to say the cylindrical part 48. It may result therefrom either soiled and a washing ramp 51 can be provided which will be used. during the return movement of the bowl 11.

The flap 24 is driven by a lug 52 which hooks into the flap 24 and which is carried by a belt 53 which is wound around an upper pulley 54 and two lower pulleys 55 and 56; This belt 53 is fixed at 57 to the upper edge of the cylindrical wall 48. The pulley 55 is a deflection pulley which is arranged in such a way that the lower part of the belt 53 comes to rest on the cylindrical part 48.

Lorsque la cuvette 11 pivote vers sa position de nettoyage le volet vient dans la position d'ouverture représenté sur la figure 7.As can be seen in the figure, the flap 24 has two walls, an outer wall 58 and an inner wall 59 which descends lower than the outer wall 58. When the bowl is in the position of use as shown above, the drive lug 52 is disposed at a certain distance from the inner wall 59 in which it comes to hang so as to delay the opening of the vertical translation movement of the flap. When the bowl 11 pivots towards its cleaning position, the flap comes into the open position shown in FIG. 7.

L'ensemble de ces différents éléments est représenté schématiquement sur la figure 8.The movement of movement of the cleaning device 26 is also controlled by means of the bowl 11 which for this purpose comprises, as can be seen in particular in FIGS. 2 and 3, a guide groove 61 which is arranged in a side wall from the back of the bowl; this groove is used to guide a roller 62 which is mounted idly on an axis 63 which is fixed to the end of an arm 64, the other end of which is integral with a pulley 65. This pulley 65 is mounted for rotation around a fixed axis 66; this pulley 65 drives a belt 67 which also meshes with a pulley 68 which rotates around a fixed axis 69 and which is secured to an arm 71. The arm 71 carries at its other end an axis 72 on which is mounted with free rotation a pulley 73 which is integral with the support arm 29 supporting the cleaning device 26. The pulley 73 drives a belt 74 which also engages on a fixed pulley 75 which is integral with the axis 69. The assembly of these different elements is shown diagrammatically in FIG. 8.

The operation of this kinematic device is as follows. As can be seen in particular in FIGS. 6 and 7, the guide groove 61 has a circular part 76 which is centered on the axis 14 of rotation of the bowl and which is extended by a rectilinear part 77 which is substantially horizontal when the bowl is in the use position. During the rotational movement of the bowl, as long as the roller 62 circulates in the circular part 76 of the groove 61, there is no movement; on the other hand, when the roller 62 describes the rectilinear part 77, the arm 64 is driven in rotation in an anticlockwise direction, which causes the pulley 65 to rotate and consequently the rotation in the same direction of the pulley 68 so that the arm 71 rotates anti-clockwise to come into the position shown in FIG. 7.

As indicated above, during the rotational movement of the bowl 11 towards its cleaning position, the arm 71 rotates anti-clockwise around the axis 69; he drives in this movement the pulley 74 which, due to the fact that the pulley 75 is fixed, is rotated in a clockwise direction which causes the rotation of the arm 29 in a clockwise direction around the axis 72 and this arm 29 unfolds relative to the arm 71. As we saw above, this movement is delayed by the inactive circular part 76 of the guide groove 61.

Advantageously, the belt 53 can be provided with a stop 78 positioned just above the flap 24 when the bowl is in the use position; this stop serves as security and prevents any manual actuation when the latter is in the closed position.

According to the invention, provision can be made for a washing cycle to be able to be controlled by a user in the sanitary module; this cycle can be a normal cleaning cycle or a shorter cycle. This is possible since, as indicated above, the sanitary module is totally safe due to the presence of the torque limiter. Advantageously, provision is made, for example, in the partition 12 above the bowl 11 for a display device 79 which provides explanations on the operation and progress of the cleaning cycle. This display device may include, for example, colored indications symbolizing the different phases (cleaning, disinfection, drying, etc.).

The technical area is small, it is not possible to plan to access it from outside the enclosure of the sanitary module; therefore a cover is provided in the partition 12 and whose opening allows the maintenance of the various mechanical elements of the module.

According to an alternative embodiment shown in Figures 9 and 10, there is also provided a hinged vertical cover 91 which can be opened to give access to the technical area 9 and access to this technical area which is of reduced size is still facilitated by the fact that the bowl 92 also constitutes a cover covering most of the drive device and this bowl 92 can be removed as shown in FIG. 10 to access the drive devices. It is also possible to provide that the parts 93 and 94 of the partition wall which are arranged on either side of the bowl 92 are mounted so as to be able to open as shown in FIG. 10 in such a way that can access the entire technical area 9.

To simplify maintenance operations, it is advantageous to provide a centralized lubrication system for the various mechanical elements supplied by a cartridge containing a lubrication product and the replacement of which is carried out regularly.

To avoid any projection of liquid into the zone of use during the cleaning cycle, a flexible protective flap 81 can be provided which is disposed around the periphery of the opening in the partition 12 which is closed in the position of use by the flap 24 and whose shape corresponds to the profile of the telescope.

Dans le mode de réalisation de la figure 3, le dispositif mécanique d'entraînement de la cuvette est disposé à l'extérieur de celle-ci.In Figures 2 and 3, there are shown two alternative embodiments of the rear part of the bowl 11; in the embodiment of Figure 2, there are provided on either side of the cylindrical part 48 two housings 82 and 83 which are intended to receive the device for driving the bowl in rotation and which are closed by two walls removable side panels 84 and 85. In this embodiment, the entire mechanism for driving the bowl is therefore hidden by the walls 84 and 85. In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the mechanical device for driving the bowl is arranged outside of it.

It can be seen that the invention makes it possible to produce a sanitary module in which the cleaning operations are carried out in complete safety; in particular, a perfect cleaning and drying of the telescope is carried out so that the user has no reluctance to use it in a normal manner. Furthermore, the possibility of triggering the washing cycle by the user and the explanations provided by the display device make it possible to overcome any reluctance that might exist.

The sanitary module according to the invention is of reduced dimensions and it is more particularly intended for protected public or semi-public places such as station halls, petrol stations, etc. The dimensions of this module are small enough that we can consider its integration into private accommodation.
