Abstract

A terminal assembly for a quick-connect terminal for connecting electrical conductors to a bus bar of associated electric equipment comprises a conductor frame extending around the bus bar with a thread for a terminal screw surrounded by a U-shaped pressure piece guided in the electrical conductor connecting region by the terminal screw. The terminal assembly is inserted into a longitudinal channel of an insulating cover from the bottom and is snapped into the cover. Two stacked funnels are provided in the cover for insertion of two electrical conductors per terminal assembly. The bus bar of the equipment is inserted into the cover and the terminal assembly transversely to the direction of insertion of the terminal assembly. The cover is secured to the equipment in such a way that it locks the terminal assembly in place within the cover. The insulating cover is so arranged about the electrical conductors and the bus bar of the equipment that the combination is safe from inadvertant human contact with the electrical connections.

Description

The invention relates to a clamp with a latchable cover for connecting electrical conductors to a rail, consisting of a bracket connected to the rail with a thread for the connecting screw, which is surrounded by a U-shaped pressure piece guided in the head region of the connecting screw .

In a known terminal of the above-mentioned type (DE-A-23 52 432), a bracket provided with the pressure screw can be connected to the mounting rail for grounding a mounting rail and can press a connecting conductor against the mounting rail.

In a further known frame clamp (DE-OS 2 161 882), a busbar is provided with an assembly foot for connection to a mounting rail via an insulating body. The frame is fastened to the busbar by means of a spring tongue fastened to the frame which engages in a corresponding latching recess.

The present invention has for its object to provide a box clamp of the type mentioned above, which can be attached in a simple manner and is easily protected against external contact, preferably the so-called finger contact. This is achieved in a simple manner in that the bracket is designed as a closed frame for gripping around the busbar; that the cover has a channel for the unit consisting of frame, connecting screw and pressure piece, which can be inserted and locked into the channel is; that the cover has insertion funnels on one side, for the conductors which can be inserted into the frame through the insertion funnels; and that the cover on the side opposite the insertion funnels is provided with a recess corresponding to the busbar, so that the busbar can be inserted into the frame through the recess transversely to the direction in which the unit can be inserted into the channel. In order to be able to connect several box terminals as a unit to an electrical device, it is advantageous if the cover has a plurality of insertion chambers for the terminals and can be locked as a unit with an electrical device having the busbars as connections. In order to prevent the unit from detaching from the device during operation, it is also advantageous if latching arms are provided for latching the frame in the cover, the return movement of which is blocked for release by latching the cover with the device. A simple embodiment has emerged for this when the latching device for the unit and device is located between two insertion chambers or when the latching device acts transversely to the insertion latching of the terminals and the latching projection of the device housing blocks the release position of the latching arms. Several connecting wires can be easily connected to a box clamp if the frame is provided with an inhibited position in the cover in front of the insertion funnel facing the connecting screw. In order to be able to clamp only one wire, for example in the upper insertion funnel, it is advantageous if the Inhibited position is achieved by widening the web of the U-shaped pressure piece in cooperation with the inner wall of the insertion chamber.

An exemplary embodiment according to the invention is described with reference to the drawing and the mode of operation is explained in more detail.

The box clamp shown in the drawing consists of the frame 1, in which a thread 2 is provided for the connecting screw 3. The pressure piece 4 is U-shaped and is guided with a recess 5 over the head 6 of the connecting screw 3, so that it is carried into the thread 2 when the connecting screw 3 is screwed in. The unit consisting of frame, connecting screw and pressure piece is inserted into a channel 7 in a cover 8. The walls 9 of the channel 7 flanking the frame 1 are partially slotted, so that resilient arms 10 are formed, on which claw-shaped projections 11 are formed, which engage in the insertion area of the frame 1 and thus prevent falling out after insertion of the unit. The cover 8 has two insertion funnels 12, 13 for each box clamp, which are separated from one another by a web 14. Behind the web 14, the busbar 16 connected to the electrical device 15 ends, so that the conductors 17 and 18 indicated in FIG. 2 can be inserted above and below the busbar into the frame through the insertion funnels 12, 13. The pressure piece 4 is guided with the web 19 between two ribs 20 formed in the channels 7. The web 19 is made wider in the central area and the distance between the guide ribs 20 becomes smaller in the upper area, so that the pressure piece after pushing up the box clamp, as can be seen in the middle part of FIG. 1, is clamped in this area, so that the clamp cannot move by itself if it is only open for one conductor. Between the individual chambers, the cover has rectangular recesses 21 into which correspondingly shaped lugs 22 of the device 15 can be inserted. A locking hook 23 integrally formed in the recess, which can engage in a corresponding locking recess 24 of the device 15, serves to hold the cover on the device 15. Because the shoulder 22 abuts the walls 9 and also in the area of the resilient arms 10 fills the cuboid recess 21, springing back of the resilient arms 10 is excluded, so that pressing the frame 1 out of the channel 7 is impossible. The cover 8 is closed on the opposite side of the insertion funnels 12, 13, so that the conductors 17 and 18 can only be inserted up to this wall. A corresponding recess is provided in this wall for the busbar 16. On the opposite side of the channel 7 there is a screwdriver insertion opening 25, so that the screw head 6 is also protected against finger contact.

The design according to the invention thus provides a simple holder for box terminals with corresponding protection against accidental contact, which is simple to manufacture and assemble. The prefabricated unit is locked onto the device and cannot be detached again without tools.
