Abstract

The invention relates to a coupling for connecting a brush head or the like to a shaft, consisting of a journal connectable to the brush head and having a catching design and of a support which is connectable to the shaft and receives the journal and which has a lock actuable from outside counter to a spring effect. Such a coupling, which can easily be actuated and which is distinguished by an especially secure and positive connection of the coupling halves, is characterised in that the catch is designed as a catch projection which is arranged at the free end of the journal on one longitudinal side, in that on the opposite longitudinal side the journal has a recess which reduces the height of the latter and extends over the width of the journal and the length of which is smaller than the insertion length of the journal in the sleeve, and in that the sleeve has an inner cross-section which is matched to the largest journal cross-section and which has, on one side, a catch recess for the catch projection and, on the opposite side, a longitudinally extending groove for a tongue guided in it and projecting into the inner cross-section of the sleeve, the tongue being supported on an axial spring, being connected to a slide arranged on the outside of the sleeve and, in the locking state, engaging under the journal on the side opposite the catch projection. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a coupling for connecting a broom or the like to a handle, consisting of a pin which can be connected to the broom and which has a latching configuration, and a sleeve which can be connected to the handle for receiving the pin and which has a lock which can be actuated from the outside against spring action having.

In practice, broom handles are known which have a threaded part at one end which is screwed into an associated threaded hole in the broom. The durability of such a coupling depends on how tightly the threaded part is screwed into the associated threaded hole. Since the loads in the clutch area are very high, it is often observed that the clutch still comes loose. Couplings known from practice, of the type described at the outset, which are also referred to as plug-in couplings and in which the two coupling halves are connected to one another in that the pin is pushed into the sleeve until it engages (see, for example, the publication) are therefore more advantageous EP-A-0057916) On the outside of the sleeve or on the stem there is a push button which holds the latching lock.

The spring of the push button is also responsible for the force with which the latching formations are held in mutual positive engagement. The greater the security of the positive connection, the stronger the spring must be and the more force is required to assemble or to release the coupling halves.

The object of the invention is to provide a coupling of the type described above, which is easy to operate and which is characterized by a particularly secure, positive connection of the coupling halves.

This object is achieved in that the catch is designed as a locking projection which is arranged on the free end of the pin on one long side, that the pin on the opposite long side has a recess reducing the height of the pin, which extends across the width of the pin and the length of which is less than the insertion length of the pin in the sleeve, and that the sleeve has an inner cross section which is adapted to the largest pin cross section and which has on one side a latching recess for the latching projection and on the opposite side a longitudinally extending groove for a slot therein Tongue which extends into the inner cross section of the sleeve, the tongue being supported on an axial spring and being connected to a slide arranged on the outside of the sleeve and, in the locked state, gripping the pin on the longitudinal side opposite the latching projection.

With this coupling, the security of the positive connection no longer depends on the strength of the spring. To connect the two coupling halves to each other, the pin is pushed into the sleeve until the front, free end meets the front of the tongue. The locking projection slides on an associated inside of the sleeve. Accordingly, the longitudinal axis of the pin can be tilted somewhat with respect to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. When the free end face of the pin meets the tongue, the tongue is moved against the action of its axial spring until the latching projection can snap into the associated latching recess in the inner cross section of the sleeve. Now, under the action of its axial spring, the tongue is pushed back into its starting position, underpinning the longitudinal side of the pin opposite the latching projection, which is thereby held in a form-fitting manner in the sleeve. To release the two coupling halves, the tongue is pulled back against the action of its axial spring with the aid of the outer slide until the pin is freely movable again and can be pulled out of the sleeve or falls out of the sleeve.

To support the functional sequence described, the locking projection and / or the tongue can have associated bevels which prevent the tongue and the pin from tilting or blocking one another when the pin is inserted into the sleeve.

The pin advantageously has a rectangular to square cross section. To ensure that the pin is always inserted into the sleeve so that its locking projection can reach into the associated locking recess, the inner cross section of the sleeve should have at least one longitudinally extending guide groove for a guide projection of the pin. It is easiest if a guide pin is inserted in the pin, which is arranged outside the central plane of the pin. With appropriate Arrangement of the guide grooves, the pin can only be inserted into the sleeve in the correct position.

The tongue can connect to a slide part guided in the sleeve, which is supported on the bottom of the sleeve via the axial spring, the slide part being connected to the outer slide part.

If the locking projection has a triangular to trapezoidal cross section and that the free end of the sleeve forms a stop for an abutment arranged on the pin, it is possible to prevent any axial play between the coupling halves in the coupled state.

In the following an embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing is explained; show it:
Fig. L
3 shows a longitudinal section through a coupling corresponding to a section in the direction II through the object according to FIG. 2,
Fig. 2
2 shows a section in the direction II-II through the object according to FIG. 1,
Fig. 3
a section in the direction III-III through the object of FIG.

The coupling shown is used to connect a broom or the like, not shown, to a handle l, which consists of a metallic tube in the embodiment shown. In the handle l a sleeve 2 is inserted, the inner cross section of which is adapted to the largest cross section of a pin 3, which is connected to the broom or the like, not shown.

The pin 3 has a rectangular to square cross section; it is designed as a hollow pin in the embodiment shown. In the region of its free end, the pin 3 has a locking projection 5 on a long side 4, which has a triangular cross section. On the opposite longitudinal side 6, part of the pin 3 is cut away, so that a recess 7 is formed which extends across the width of the pin 3 and whose length is slightly less than the insertion length of the pin 3 in the sleeve 2.

The sleeve 2 has a locking recess 8 for the locking projection 5 of the pin 3 inserted into the sleeve 2. The latching recess 8 is opposite a tongue 9 which is guided in an axial groove 10 of the sleeve 2. The tongue 9 adjoins a slide part 11 which is engaged by an axial spring l2 which is supported on a base l3 of the sleeve 2. A pin l5 extends through the slide part 11 and mutually opposite longitudinal slots l4 of the handle l into a slide l6 surrounding the handle l.

The sleeve 2 has guide grooves 17 on the inside, which, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 3, are arranged off-center. The ends of a guide pin l8, which is inserted into the pin 3 in the region of its free end, engage in the guide grooves l7.

To connect the broom to the handle l, the pin 3 is pushed into the sleeve 2, guide grooves l7 and guide pin l8 ensuring that the pin 3 is only in the correct position in the sleeve 2 can be introduced. During insertion, the longitudinal axis of the pin 3 is pivoted somewhat with respect to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve 2 because the locking projection 5 of the pin 3 slides on the associated inside of the sleeve 2. For this reason, the end face of the pin 3 also meets the tongue 9 and takes it along in the insertion direction against the action of its axial spring l2. When the locking projection 5 reaches the area of the locking recess 8, it snaps into it. Now, the tongue 9 is pushed back by its axial spring l2 back into its rest position, whereby it grips the longitudinal side of the pin 3 opposite the locking projection 5 in the region of the recess 7 and thus fixes the pin 3 in the sleeve 2 in a form-fitting manner.

To release the clutch, the outer slide l6 is moved against the action of the axial spring l2 until the tongue 9 releases the end of the pin 3. Then the pin 3 can be pulled out of the sleeve 2 or it falls out of the sleeve 2 automatically in a corresponding position.

As can be seen in particular from FIG. 2, the tongue 9 on the one hand and the free end of the pin 3 on the other hand have associated bevels 19 and 20 which support the interaction of these components when they snap into place. The free end 2l of the sleeve 2 is designed as a stop for an abutment, not shown, arranged on the pin 3. With an appropriate arrangement of the abutment on the pin 3, the conditions can be set so that the insertion length of the pin 3 in the sleeve 2 is limited so that the triangular locking projection 5 only partially engages in the locking recess 8 and thereby prevents any axial play of the coupling half .
