Definitions
- the invention relates to a deflection wheel for a cartridge feeding device on an automatic multi-tube cannon, with a rotating tube bundle, with an endless conveyor belt, from which the cartridges supplied are passed over the deflection wheel of the cannon with a number of troughs distributed uniformly around the circumference of the deflection wheel for receiving the cartridges.
- the cartridges are also fed by an endless conveyor belt to the multi-tube cannon with a rotating tube bundle.
- a combing-out wheel which pushes the cartridges out of the conveyor belt and feeds them to the weapon.
- the cartridges must be accelerated because the division of the conveyor chain is much smaller than the distance between the individual weapon tubes of the tube bundle. Due to the small division of the conveyor chain, the cartridges move much more slowly than they should move according to the circumferential speed of the gun barrels (see Fig. 2 of the present application).
- the combing wheel accelerates the cartridges to the peripheral speed of the tube bundle.
- the object which is to be achieved with the present invention is to create a deflection wheel which enables a uniform acceleration of the cartridges fed on the conveyor belt.
- the deflection wheel When the conveyor belt is deflected by the deflection wheel, the cartridges located on the conveyor belt move on a much larger circular arc than the conveyor belt itself, as a result of which the cartridges are already accelerated.
- this acceleration alone does not give the cartridge the speed it needs to be inserted into the weapon.
- the individual cartridges should therefore be additionally accelerated.
- the deflection wheel according to the invention is characterized in that the deflection wheel has a number of radially adjustable slides, which form the troughs for receiving the cartridges, and that means are provided which radially shift the slides during the rotation of the deflection wheel.
- the means for radially displacing the slides are preferably formed by a stationary control cam, a roller being fastened to each slider, which is supported on this stationary cam and rolls on this cam when the deflection wheel rotates.
- the control cam preferably has a control groove into which the rollers attached to the slides protrude.
- the endless conveyor belt or an endless conveyor chain could also be designed in such a way that it is on a deflection roller of a ratio moderately small radius is deflected, but the cartridges on the conveyor chain move on a circle of, in comparison to the radius of the roller, very large radius, whereby the cartridges could also be accelerated to the desired speed.
- a star wheel 10 known per se and provided with five teeth 11 rotates in the direction of arrow A about its axis 12.
- This star wheel 10 moves an endless conveyor chain 13 in the direction of the two arrows B. Only one dash-dotted line of this conveyor chain 13 is indicated in FIG.
- the shape of the teeth 11 inevitably results from the requirement that the cartridges have to be redirected from a straight line of motion to a circular path of movement and then in turn have to be redirected to a straight line of motion.
- the transition from the linear to the circular movement path and the transition from the circular to the linear movement path is indicated by the two points 14 and 15.
- the cartridges 12 are fed to a firearm, of which only the six gun barrels 16 are indicated. These six weapon tubes 16 are fastened in a housing, not shown, which rotates in the direction of arrow D about an axis 17.
- the axis of the gun barrel 16a coincides with the axis of the cartridge 12c.
- the deflection wheel 20 has five sliders 21, which can be moved in the radial direction on the deflection wheel 20, as indicated by arrows E.
- This deflection wheel 20 moves an endless conveyor chain 22 in the direction of arrow B when the deflection wheel 20 rotates in the direction of arrow A.
- the cartridges 23 supplied by the conveyor chain 22 enter the troughs 24 of the slide 21.
- the conveyor chain 22 is also only indicated by a dash-dotted line.
- the slides 21 are radially displaceably mounted in a disk 25, which can rotate in the direction of arrow A. In front of this disk 25 is a cam disk 26 which cannot be rotated.
- This cam disc 26 has a control groove or cam 27 project into which rollers 28 which are mounted on bolts 29 which are fastened to the slides 21.
- the control groove 27 on the right half of the cam disk 26 is at a smaller distance from the axis 30 of the deflection wheel than on the left half of the cam disk 26.
- the three slides 21a, b, c are further from the axle 30 removed when the slides 21d and e.
- the slide 21d thus moves radially outward and at the same time the slide 21a moves radially inward when the deflection wheel 20 rotates a fifth of a turn in the direction of arrow A from the position shown.
- the control groove 27, which is only indicated schematically here, can be designed such that the cartridge 12b according to FIG. 2 does not move on a circular path 13, but on a spiral path 18, without the unfavorable play indicated in FIG 19 arises.
- two deflection wheels 20 are arranged on a shaft 31, one deflection wheel 20 of which is located at the rear end of the cartridges to be transported, and the other deflection wheel 20a detects the cartridges in the region of the sleeve mouth.
- the disks 25 and 25a of the two deflection wheels 20 and 20a are wedged on the shaft 31 and rotate with this shaft 31, on which a gearwheel 32 is wedged at the right end, which can be driven by a motor, not shown.
- the shaft 31 is mounted in a housing 34 via two ball bearings 33.
- the cam disc 26a which must not rotate, is fastened to the housing 34 via the sleeve 35, and is thus secured against rotation.
- a bolt 29 or 29a is fastened, on each of which a roller 28, 28a is mounted, which projects into the control groove 27 or 27a.
- Guide rails 37, 38 are fastened in the housing 34 and prevent the cartridges 23 fall out of the slides 21 and 21 '.
- the cam disk 26 is secured against rotation by a cam 39 which is attached to the housing 34.
- a sleeve 36 is located between the cam disk 26 and the disk 25.
- the multi-tube cannon with a rotating tube bundle of six weapon tubes 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 16e and 16f fires 700 cartridges 12 or 23 per minute from each individual weapon tube.
- FIG. 2 is considerably smaller than the circular arc b between the weapon tubes 16c and 16d (Fig.2). According to the difference in length between distance a and arc b , the cartridge must be accelerated to a higher speed. To accelerate the cartridges 12 and 23, they are moved according to FIG. 2 on a spiral path 18, on which they are accelerated approximately to the desired speed. How a cartridge 12, 23 can be moved on a spiral path 18 (FIG. 2) can be seen from FIG.
Abstract
The cartridges are fed straight to a multi-tube cannon with a rotating tube bundle (16) on a cartridge feed device, e.g. an endless conveyor belt (13), and then have to be accelerated to the peripheral speed of the tube bundle (16), since the distances between the individual tubes are much larger are as the distance of one cartridge (23) from the next on the endless conveyor belt (13). A uniform acceleration of the cartridges fed on the conveyor belt to the peripheral speed of the tube bundle (16) of the weapon is achieved according to the invention in that the deflection wheel (20) has a number of radially adjustable slides (21) which have the troughs (24) for receiving the cartridges Form (23) and that means (26, 27) are present which radially shift the slides (21) during the rotation of the deflection wheel (20).
Description
The invention relates to a deflection wheel for a cartridge feeding device on an automatic multi-tube cannon, with a rotating tube bundle, with an endless conveyor belt, from which the cartridges supplied are passed over the deflection wheel of the cannon with a number of troughs distributed uniformly around the circumference of the deflection wheel for receiving the cartridges.
In a known cartridge feeder device of this type (see US Pat. No. 2,993,415), the cartridges are also fed by an endless conveyor belt to the multi-tube cannon with a rotating tube bundle. Instead of feeding the cartridges to the weapon with the aid of a deflection wheel which deflects the conveyor belt, there is a combing-out wheel which pushes the cartridges out of the conveyor belt and feeds them to the weapon. During this combing-out process, the cartridges must be accelerated because the division of the conveyor chain is much smaller than the distance between the individual weapon tubes of the tube bundle. Due to the small division of the conveyor chain, the cartridges move much more slowly than they should move according to the circumferential speed of the gun barrels (see Fig. 2 of the present application). The combing wheel accelerates the cartridges to the peripheral speed of the tube bundle.
In another known cartridge supply device of this type (see US Pat. No. 3,437,005), the cartridges are supplied to the multi-tube cannon by a screw conveyor instead of by an endless conveyor belt. A combing wheel brings the cartridges from the screw conveyor to the individual tubes of the weapon. The disadvantage of this device is that the cartridges have to be accelerated suddenly, since the peripheral speed of the Combing wheel is the same as the circumferential speed of the tube bundle and the cartridges move on the screw conveyor, according to the small distances between the individual cartridges, only relatively slowly.
The object which is to be achieved with the present invention is to create a deflection wheel which enables a uniform acceleration of the cartridges fed on the conveyor belt. When the conveyor belt is deflected by the deflection wheel, the cartridges located on the conveyor belt move on a much larger circular arc than the conveyor belt itself, as a result of which the cartridges are already accelerated. However, this acceleration alone does not give the cartridge the speed it needs to be inserted into the weapon. With the aid of the deflection wheel according to the invention, the individual cartridges should therefore be additionally accelerated.
The deflection wheel according to the invention, with which this object is achieved, is characterized in that the deflection wheel has a number of radially adjustable slides, which form the troughs for receiving the cartridges, and that means are provided which radially shift the slides during the rotation of the deflection wheel. The means for radially displacing the slides are preferably formed by a stationary control cam, a roller being fastened to each slider, which is supported on this stationary cam and rolls on this cam when the deflection wheel rotates. The control cam preferably has a control groove into which the rollers attached to the slides protrude.
Instead of designing the deflection wheel in the manner described, according to the invention, the endless conveyor belt or an endless conveyor chain could also be designed in such a way that it is on a deflection roller of a ratio moderately small radius is deflected, but the cartridges on the conveyor chain move on a circle of, in comparison to the radius of the roller, very large radius, whereby the cartridges could also be accelerated to the desired speed. However, this would lead to an unfavorable construction of the chain.

- Fig.2 das in Fig.1 gezeigte Umlenkrad neben einer Mehrrohrkanone;
- Fig.4 einen Schnitt nach Linie IV-IV in Fig.3.
It shows:
- 1 shows a known deflection wheel, as it has been used for a cartridge feeder;
- 2 shows the deflection wheel shown in Figure 1 next to a multi-tube cannon;
- 3 shows a deflection wheel according to the present invention and
- 4 shows a section along line IV-IV in Fig.3.
According to FIG. 1, a
According to Figure 2, the
According to FIG. 3, the
The operation of the cartridge feeder described is as follows:
The multi-tube cannon with a rotating tube bundle of six
