Description

The invention relates to a contact spring formed from a sheet metal strip, in which at one end of the strip a strip section is bent back in a U-shape opposite to the course of the strip and the strip has a cutout in the region of the bend for inserting a contact pin or contact knife.

Such a contact spring is known from US-E 29 513. It is clear that in this known contact spring to achieve a sufficient spring travel, the bent-back section must be dimensioned relatively long and that therefore a contact knife intended for contact with such a contact spring must also have a relatively large length in order to reach the distance from the free end of the contact spring to be able to penetrate the bent portion of the contact surface formed. In addition, one of the two contact surfaces, namely the contact surface, which is located on the side of the unbent part of the strip, is relatively rigid, so that the clamping effect, that is to say the contact force, has to be largely generated by the bent portion. Finally, there is also the fact that, in the case of contact springs, only the actual contact surfaces, i.e. the areas that come into contact with a counter-contact element (e.g. contact knife or contact pin), are now provided with a noble metal layer in order to save costs. In the known contact spring, in the unbent state of the end strip section, the contact surfaces are relatively far apart, so that two locally separated precious metal layer regions are required for each contact spring.

In addition, it is apparent from the earlier patent application EP-A 0 197 047, which is considered the state of the art under Article 54 (3) EPC, to provide the contact surfaces in the vicinity of the U-shaped bend of the contact strip and the contact surface in such a contact spring , which is located on the side of the bent-back strip section, to be made elastically flexible by at least partially free cutting to the U-shaped bend of the strip.

In contrast, it is an object of the present invention to design a contact spring of the type mentioned in such a way that both contact surfaces of the contact spring, between which a contact knife or a contact pin can be inserted, are resilient.

According to the invention this object is achieved by a design of the contact spring corresponding to the characterizing features of claim 1.

In this way, both contact surfaces are components of resilient webs, so that the contact surfaces can lie with an optimal spring action against a contact pin inserted between these surfaces or a contact knife inserted between these surfaces.

A further embodiment of the invention results from the features of the subclaim.

Embodiments of the contact spring according to the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to four figures.

Each shows in an oblique view and enlarged,
  • Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 shows a first embodiment of the contact spring in the unbent state (Fig. 1) and in the finished state (Fig. 2) and
  • Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 shows a second embodiment of the contact spring, in particular Fig. 3 shows that the spring sheet metal strips used to produce the contact spring can advantageously be transverse webs of a spring sheet metal strip.

In detail, it can be seen from the figures that the contact spring is made from a spring sheet metal strip 1, which is formed at one end by a punching process and any subsequent bending to form a pin-shaped or knife-shaped connecting element 2.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the sheet metal strip 1 is divided at its other end into two webs 3, 4 which are arranged next to one another and parallel in the direction of the strip 1. The longer of the two webs 3 has at its free end 5 an arm 6 provided transversely to the direction of the strip 1. This, at its free end 7 widened arm 6 is dimensioned such that it is arranged with its widening 8 in the unbent state of the strip 1 separated by an air gap 9 from the web 4 in extension of the shorter web 4.

The shorter web 4 is provided with a curvature at its free end and forms a contact surface 10 of the contact spring in the region of this curvature.

Die Verbreiterung 8 des Armes 6 bildet mit der Fläche, die der Kontaktfläche 10 des kürzeren Steges 4 gegenüberliegt, eine weitere Kontaktfläche 11.A U-shaped bend of the longer web 3, as shown in FIG. 2, contrasts the arm 6 with its widening 8 to the contact surface 10 of the shorter web 4. The widening 8 of the arm 6 forms a further contact surface 11 with the surface that lies opposite the contact surface 10 of the shorter web 4.

The air gap 9 lying in the unbent state of the longer web 3 between the contact surfaces 10 and 11 forms an insertion opening in the bent state of the web 3, through which a contact pin or a contact knife can be inserted between the contact surfaces 10 and 11. From the figures it can be seen that both contact surfaces 10, 11 of the bend 18 of the longer web 3 are provided immediately adjacent to one end of the contact spring, so that a contact pin or a contact knife does not require a great length to pass between the contact surfaces 10, 11 reach.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3 and according to FIG. 4, the strip 1 is divided into three mutually parallel webs 12, 13, 14 at the end of the strip which faces away from the connecting element 2. The two outer webs 12, 14 are connected to one another at their free end by the arm 6, and the arm 6 has the widening 8 in its center, which is thereby an extension of the shorter web 13, which is separated by an air gap 9 from the Widening 8 in the direction of the strip 1 is separated when the two outer webs 12, 14 are in the unbent state.

The widening 8 of the arm 6 is compared to the free end of the shorter web 13 by a U-shaped back bend 18 of the outer webs 12, 14. The mutually opposing surfaces of the widening 8 of the arm 6 and the free end of the web 13 are designed as contact surfaces 10, 11, between which a contact pin or a contact knife can be inserted, which or is passed through a window 16, which through the curved areas 17 of the longer webs 12, 14 is limited.

From Fig. 3 it can be seen that the individual sheet metal strips 1 can be worked out as rungs of a ladder-shaped sheet metal strip from the sheet metal strip, the contact surfaces 10, 11 being located on the same side of the sheet metal strip due to the special design of the contact spring and also on each strip concentrate a narrow area 19, which favors the coating of the areas of the strips 1, which are provided for forming the contact surfaces 10, 11, with precious metal.
