Definitions
- the invention refers to a device for mounting bearings comprising a housing including a cavity for receiving a bearing and a shaft applicable therein as well as means for keeping the bearing positioned in said cavity.
- the housing for the bearing is made of weldable material and comprises a central, hublike part in which the cavity receiving the bearing is located, as well as a cylindrical or otherwise essentially endless wall projecting from the hub, said wall having a marked axial extent in order to locate a free edge, that is distant from the hub part, at a marked distance from an edge of said wall connected to the hub part and in that way preventing the deforming thermal stresses, that are generated when said free edge of the wall is welded, from reaching the hub part and the . bearing located therein.
- the wall part and the hub part are made in one piece and mutually parti ⁇ ally separated by a ringformed or endless groove.
- Fig 1 shows a cross-section, partly in view, of a device according to the invention, the device being shown mounted on a machine part in the form of a metal plate wall.
- Fig 2 a side view showing the same machine part 15 in a reduced scale and
- Fig 3 a perspective view illustrating a fixture for mounting a device according to the invention.
- fig 1 1 generally designates a bearing for a shaft 2 which is rotatable in relation to a machine part that in this case can consist of a simple metal plate wall 3.
- the bearing 1 may consist of any type of roller or slide bearing, for instance a ball bearing.
- a disc 4 is To the shaft 2 a disc 4 is
- associated forming a part of a V-belt transmission which apart from a V-belt 5 also includes additional discs 4' arranged on shafts that like the shaft 2 are journalled in relation to the wall 3 (cf Fig 2).
- This device for mounting the bearing 1 and made in accordance with the invention is in its entirety designated 6.
- This device has the form of a housing in which there is a cavity 7, in this case essentially cylindrical, wherein the bearing 1 can be received with a reasonably good fit. More specifi-
- the cavity is delimited by on one hand a cylindrical surface, and on the other hand a ringformed abutment or shoulder 8.
- the bearing 1 can be kept in place in this cavity in several different ways, for instance by means of a Seeger-typeclamp ring or as illustrated in the drawing, by a suitable cover plate 9.
- the housing in question on one hand includes a central, hublike part 10 wherein the cavity 7 is recessed, and on the other hand a cylindrical or endless wall 11 projecting from this hub part and whose free end 12 is attached to a throughole 13 by means of one or more welds 14.
- This wall 11 has a marked axial extent in order to locate the free end 12 at a marked distance from the edge 15 connected to the hub part 10, all in order to prevent the deforming thermal stresses, that are generated when the wall part 11 is welded to the part 3, from reaching the hub part 10 and the bearing located therein.
- the wall part 11 and the hub part 10 are made in one continuous piece and mutually partially separated by means of a ringformed or endless groove 16.
- the groove 16 is very deep seen in relation to the overall axial extent of the device 6 (i.e. the distance between both opposed end faces 17 and 17'). More specific ⁇ ally, the groove has such a depth that the thickness of the part 18 that connects the hub part 10 with the wall part 11 not markedly exceeds the thickness of the wall part 11 itself.
- the bearing 1 or the bearing cavity 7 is in its entirely located on one side of an imaginary plane through the bottom of the aroundgoing groove 16, namely on the. side of this plane that is facing left in Fig 1.
- the bearing 1 is therefore situated about half-way between the both oppo ⁇ sing faces 17 and 17' of the housing 6.
- the thickness or the radial extent of the housing varies in accordance with the dimensions of the bearing in question.
- the thickness of the housing 6 i.e. the distance between the faces 17,17'
- the wall part 11 has a marked axial extent seen in relation to the dimensions of the bearing 1 that, in combination with the great depth of ' the groove 16, results in that the path is made very long for the heat that is generated when the weld 14 is applied and that is transmitted through the material of the housing 6 from the free end 12 of the wall part 11 to the area of the cavity 7 and the • .bearing located therein.
- the hub part 10 is some ⁇ what sturdier than the wall part 11 insofar that the wall part is at least somewhat thinner than the hub part. In this way any tendency to deformation in the hub part sur- rounding the bearing is further counteracted.
- FIG 3 in a schematic way illustrates how the device according to the invention facili ⁇ tates an accurate mounting of several bearings that are in- eluded in a machine part.
- holes 13' ,13" can be formed in a metal plate 3' that have a rough or very rough fit in relation to two mounting devices 6' ,6" made in accordance with the invention.
- the plate 3' and the two mounting de ⁇ vices 6 ',6" are applied to a fixture 19 having two dowels 20,20' that have been placed at an exact predetermined distance from each other. The dimensions of these dowels correspond with the inner dimensions of the bearing 1 in question.
- the devices can by means of welding be permanently attached to the plate 3' in positions that will remain accurate during a long time since these kinds of welded connections, as contrasted with bolted connections, remain intact even when subject to severe stresses. From this follows that a dimensionally very accurate mounting of the bearing in question is possible in spite of the fact that the requirements for dimensional accuracy are extremely small when the holes 13',13" are made.
