Description

The present invention relates to a chimney hood for monitoring the draft in a chimney pipe, in particular a chimney, with a deflector which has a central opening and then a downwardly inclined surface, a second, completely closed deflector being provided above the first-mentioned deflector which completely covers at least the central opening of the first deflector.

A chimney hood of the type mentioned at the beginning shows, for example, CH-A-638'288 (Mitchell). This known solution shows between the first and second deflectors a plurality of lamellae which, like the two deflectors, are each provided with a central opening. Between the upper deflector and the uppermost slats, a circular deflector element is arranged, which consists of two conical sheets facing each other, which works according to the Venturi principle and accelerates the wind blowing through, which creates a vacuum in the chimney pipe, which increases the draft of the chimney pipe.

This effect is desirable when the firing system connected to the chimney pipe is put into operation. The Venturi effect is retained, however, when the operating temperature has already been reached and thus a large thermal lift in the chimney. This means that there is a high energy loss during continuous operation.

It is the object of the present invention to improve a chimney hat of the type mentioned in such a way that the venturi effect is retained during the lighting period, but the thermal lift in the chimney pipe is slowed down when a certain operating temperature in the chimney is reached, as a result of which the energy consumption is reduced .

This object is achieved by a chimney hood of the type mentioned at the outset with the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1. A preferred embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing and explained with the aid of the following description.
  • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the chimney hood and
  • Figure 2 shows the chimney mounted on a chimney, partly in section.

The chimney hood shown in the figure mainly comprises two deflectors 1 and 2 mounted one above the other at a certain distance, which are fastened to a chimney 4 by means of fastening and supporting members 3, 30. Both deflectors have a circular outer edge 5, the deflector 1 below having a central, likewise circular opening 6. The diameter of this central opening 6 is preferably in the order of magnitude between 38 and 45% of the outer diameter of the deflector 1. The outer diameter is dimensioned such that it slightly projects beyond the outer parapet edge of the fireplace.

The deflector 2, which is mounted coaxially at a certain distance above the deflector 1, is completely closed, which means that it has no central opening. Otherwise, the surface shape 7 of both deflectors is approximately identical. More precisely, in this special embodiment the surface 7 of both deflectors 1 and 2 is concave in the area of its outer edge 5 and changes into a convex shape in the direction towards the center.

According to the invention, a constriction 8 is provided between the two deflectors 1 and 2, close enough above the central opening 6 of the deflector 1 below, so that the gases rising through the opening 6, as indicated by the arrow 9, accelerate when leaving the Experience opening. In the embodiment shown, this constriction 8 is determined by a guide plate 10 provided centrally under the named second deflector 2, which extends over the central opening 6 and has an approximately spherical side 11 directed towards the opening. Consequently, the baffle in cooperation with the surface 7 of the deflector 1 causes a venturi effect. The guide plate 10 mounted on the underside of the second deflector 2 forms a cavity 12 with the latter. The curved part of the guide plate 10 extends over the central opening 6 of the deflector 1 to its inner edge 13. This results in an under the second deflector 2 annular, dome-like vault 14.

The entire construction of the chimney hood is designed so that it can be fully assembled or disassembled with just a few screws without a weld. The deflectors 1 and 2, as well as the guide plate 10, which have ring-shaped regions running in an approximately horizontal plane, are provided with corresponding through holes arranged one above the other. By means of plastic screws 15, which lead through the above-mentioned through holes, the two parts are firmly screwed together on plastic spacers 16, which are provided with corresponding threads. The spacer bolts 16 stand near the inner edge 13 of the lower deflector 1 thereon and define the desired distance between the two deflectors 1 and 2. Below the lower deflector 1, support members 17 are arranged which run exactly under the spacer bolts 16. The support members 17 are also provided with through bores which correspond to the through bores in the lower deflector 1 in the installed position. Again with plastic screws 18, the support members 17 are screwed together with the deflector 1 to the spacer bolts 16. The support members 3 have the shape of cut from strips Material manufactured support bracket, which have a double bend in the edge region 5 of the lower deflector 1. The support surface 19 of the support bracket 17 can be provided with a pre-pressed bow point so that the support distance between the edge of the chimney and the outer edge 5 of the lower deflector 1 can be adjusted in height. The shaped as a support bracket 17 have an arm 20 which protrude from the inner edge 13 of the central opening of the first deflector 1 in the assembled state down into the chimney. The lower ends of the arms 20, the support members 17 are interconnected by fastening members 30. The fastening members 30 consist of a ring 31 and patinated screws 32 which pass through the ring 31 and one arm 20 of the support members 17. The screws 32 are secured by means of screw sleeves 33 held in the arms 20.

The length of the spacer bolts define the distance between the upper and lower deflectors. Depending on the size of the chimney hood, the length of the spacer bolts 16 must be adjusted. If the distance between the deflectors is too large, the desired effect flattens out; if the distance between the deflectors 1 and 2 is too small, the backflow becomes too large. The length of the spacer bolts 16 should be between 20 and 45% of the size of the diameter of the opening 6. Optimal values were achieved with a length of the spacer bolts of approximately 30% of the diameter of the opening 6.

The mode of operation of the chimney hood according to the invention is briefly described below.

There is hardly any thermal buoyancy in the chimney when heating up. Everyone, even the slightest wind that blows through the chimney hood, is accelerated between the two deflectors 1 and 2 by the guide plate 10, because this causes a Venturi effect. This creates a desired suction in the chimney pipe, which has a positive effect on the furnace. After a certain firing time, the chimney 4 has warmed up and the thermal buoyancy in the chimney increases more and more. Without having achieved the desired heat exchange effect, the heated gases escape to the outside. If the thermal buoyancy is high, the heated gases hit the baffle 10 and rise into the annular dome-like vault 14, where they are bent downwards by the upper deflector 2 and cause turbulence T. The turbulence T thus prevents the entry of wind and thus stops the venturi effect. In this way, the escape of the heated gases from the chimney 4 is delayed and thus unnecessary heat loss is slowed down. The existing thermals in the chimney mean that enough gases can still rise from the chimney. The stopped suction effect, however, reduces the fire in the furnace, which can save heating energy.
