Description

The invention relates to a device for powering an electrically heated iron suitable for ironing, even without a connected power cord, which on the one hand has a coupling plug arranged on the iron, and on the other hand has a receptacle device which has a coupling socket and further coupling plug electrically connected to the coupling socket, for storing the iron and finally contains a power cord having a further coupling socket and a mains plug, the further coupling socket being electrically and mechanically detachably connectable either directly to the coupling plugs of the iron or the further coupling plugs of the receiving device, and in the latter case the power supply to the iron in the event of an interruption of ironing without a power cord can be restored by connecting its coupling plug to the coupling socket of the receiving device.

Such a device for powering an electric iron is already known from US Pat. No. 1,606,829. With this device, not only do both coupling plugs protrude from the outside surface, but it can also be too easily damaged the cable connected to the one coupling plug, regardless of whether this coupling plug is connected to the iron or to the receiving device.

In addition, a wireless steam iron is known (brochure W 1730-15-2251 from Philips GmbH, Hamburg), which can be placed on a heating base for the heating process, which is equipped with a coupling socket, so that when the iron is placed on the heating base, the plug of the iron can be inserted into the coupling of the heating base. To make it easier to place the iron on the heating base this is provided with a sliding surface on which the iron slides along until the plug of the iron is inserted into the coupling socket of the heating base. At the lower end of the sliding surface of the heating base there are outlet openings through which the water emerging from the iron can flow off.

In contrast, the invention is based on the object of designing and arranging the electrical device and its receiving device in such a way that the mains cable is not damaged either when the receiving device is turned off or when the iron is turned off.

This object is achieved by the features listed in the characterizing part of claim 1. Due to the advantageous routing of the power cord on the iron or on the holding device, the iron and the holding device can be easily turned off even when the power cord is connected without fear of damage to the power cord. For this purpose, it is advantageous that the coupling socket and also part of the mains cable connected to the coupling socket do not protrude from the surface of the iron or the receiving device in the connected state. For this purpose, the iron or the receiving device is provided with a corresponding recess for receiving the coupling socket or part of the cable.

It is advantageous that the recess for receiving the mains cable has one or more constrictions at least in the region of the outlet of the mains cable from the recess. The constrictions are intended to prevent the power cord from sliding out again easily after the power cord has been inserted into the recess. It is advantageous that the power cable connected to the further coupling socket is bent in the region of the cable guide in such a way that the central axes running through coupling sockets of the further coupling socket of the mains cable run approximately parallel to the central axis of the bent cable guide or the power cable.

In order to accommodate the coupling socket and the connected power cord in the smallest space in the device or in the iron or in the holder, the power cord is bent by approx. 180 o using a cable guide. In the area of the connection point of the cable duct to the coupling socket, a recess is formed between the coupling socket and the cable duct, which serves to receive a guide part. This facilitates the introduction of the coupling part. The guide part provided in the device or in the receiving device also serves to cover the connector pins provided in the device or in the receiving device.

Advantageously, the further coupling socket of the power cord has a rectangular cross-sectional area which is delimited by two parallel side surfaces, the wider side surface in the inserted state lying against the flat guide part, which is approximately as wide as the one side surface the further coupling socket can be. This results in a perfect fit for the coupling socket after inserting the coupling socket into the coupling plug. In this case, the leg that can be brought into contact with the storage surface is designed to be wave-shaped.

In a further embodiment of the invention, it is advantageous that a bracket with an angled leg is adjustably connected to an upright side of the receiving device, the leg extending approximately parallel to the standing surface of the receiving device. The bracket can be clamped to an ironing board by the clip. Since the clip is formed from two legs running approximately at right angles to one another and having a bulge in the area of its kink, the bulge can be pushed completely against the ironing board until the corresponding wire rod of an ironing basket arranged on the ironing board engages in the bulge.

It is advantageous that the receiving device for connecting the electrical device has an inclined support surface which is connected at its lower end to a transverse groove which extends to the two opposite side walls of the receiving device and is open towards the latter. The condensation water that collects in the base can flow outwards through the transverse groove.

In the drawing, 2 denotes an electrical device or an iron, which can also be designed as a steam iron. The iron consists of a heating plate 4 with a housing 6 for receiving a heater, not shown in the drawing, which can be connected to a power source via a power cable 8. A handle 10 with an operating switch 12 connects to the housing 6 of the iron 2.

The mains cable 8 consists of a coupling plug 14 which is firmly connected to a coupling socket 18 via an electrical cable 16. A short part of the electrical cable 16 is surrounded in the area of the coupling socket by a cable guide 20 which prevents the electrical cable from kinking at the coupling socket when the coupling socket is connected.

As shown in FIG. 5 shows, the power cord 8 is connected to the iron 2. For this purpose, the iron 2 has coupling plugs 21 which are accommodated at their rear end in a housing part 22 which can be detachably connected to the housing 6.

The coupling socket 18 of the power cable 8 consists of a coupling housing 24 with a rectangular cross section, in which three coupling sleeves 26 are provided which are arranged next to one another and are provided on one level, into which the coupling plug 21 of the iron can be inserted.

As shown in FIG. 2 and 3 can be seen, the clutch housing is the coupling socket o angled 24 18 relative to the cable guide 20 to 180, so that the coupling socket can be accommodated 18 having connected thereto cable guide 20 in a very small space in a recess provided in the housing part 22 recess 30th

A recess 30 for receiving the coupling plug 21 adjoins the recess 30 for receiving the cable guide 20, the two recesses 30 and 32 being separated from one another by a guide part 34. The guide part 34 also serves as a cover for the coupling plugs 21 provided in the cutout 32 and furthermore also facilitates the insertion of the coupling housing 24 into the cutout 32 for connection to the coupling plugs 21. As shown in FIG. 5 shows, the recess 30 and the recess 32 is formed so that the electrical cable 16 and the coupling socket 18 are completely received by the two recesses 30 and 32, without parts on the back or the outer surface 36 and the bottom 38th of the housing part 22 protrude. In this way, the iron 2 can be easily placed on the outer surface 36 without the electrical cable 16 or the coupling socket 18 being damaged. Advantageously, one or more constrictions, which are not shown in the drawing, are provided in the upper region of the recess 32, which prevent the electrical cable 16 or the cable guide 20 inserted into the recess 30 from sliding out of the recess 30.

If the electric iron is not to be connected to the power cord 6, then only the coupling socket 18 of the coupling plugs 21 of the iron 2 are removed and at the same time the cable guide 20 is removed from the recess 30. The iron 2 can now also be used as a wireless iron. For the heating process, this is placed on a receiving device or on a heating base 40 after a certain period of time. The in FIG. 1 and 4 shown heating base consists of an upstanding wall portion 42 with a contact surface or system stud 44 against which the heating plate 4 of the iron comes to rest when the iron is placed on the heating base 40. At a right angle to the upright wall part 42 there is a base 46, in the center of which a socket 47 is arranged, which serves for connection to the coupling plug 21 of the iron 2.

Approximately parallel to the outer surface of the socket 47 runs an inclined support surface 48, which is delimited by two parallel side walls 50 and a transverse rear wall 52 connecting the two side walls 50 to one another. At the lower end of the bearing surface 48 there is a transverse groove 56 which is open to the outside, so that the condensation water which accumulates in the base 46 can flow outwards. On the underside of the base 46 there is also a cutout 60 for receiving the cable guide 20 of the power cord 8. The cutout 60 is followed by a further cutout 62 which is part of a coupling plug 64 for receiving the coupling socket 18 of the power cord 8. If, for example, the mains cable 8 is connected to the coupling plug 64, the cable guide 20 is completely accommodated in the recess 60. Then needs only the coupling plug 14 to be connected to a corresponding coupling socket of a line network. After connecting the base 40 to the mains, the iron can be placed on the support surface 48 and pushed onto the coupling socket 47 until the coupling plug 21 of the iron is inserted into the coupling socket 47. The advantageous arrangement of the sliding surface 48 and the two wall parts 50 running parallel to one another make it very easy to connect the iron 2 to the base 46. Each time the iron 2 is placed on the heating base 40, the iron 2 is heated again. After a short heating process, the iron can easily be removed from the heating base 40 and used for ironing. However, if the operator wishes to continuously heat the iron 2, then only the coupling socket 18 of the mains cable 8 needs to be removed from the coupling plug 64 and connected to the coupling plug 21.

As shown in FIG. 1, a clamp 72 is connected to the upright wall part 42 by means of a screw 70, which is formed from a leg 74 fastened to the wall part and a leg 76 connected to it at right angles, which is wave-shaped and has a recess or area in the area of its kink 78 has an arc portion 80. The clamp 72 can be adjusted after loosening the screw 70 so that a space is formed between the underside of the base 46 and the legs 76, so that the clamp 72 then from below onto an ironing board made of wire rods and attached to the ironing board can be pushed on until the recess 80 abuts against a corresponding rod of the bracket basket. Thereafter, the clamp 72 is adjusted upwards so that it lies firmly against the underside of the wire rods of the bracket basket. In this way, the heating base 40 is secured to an ironing board in a simple manner.
