Abstract

@ Hinge comprising two jaws capable of receiving the edges of the two panels to be joined.
These jaws (1, 2) are articulated around two parallel axes (6, 7) carried by an intermediate piece (5) forming a junction node. Each jaw comprises a movable immobilizing member (15) subjected to the action of springs, and which is arranged opposite a receiving seat (19), provided on the corresponding end of the junction node (5). Thus, the corresponding panels are elastically immobilized in a position situated in the plane of the two axes (6, 7) carried by the junction node, but they can pivot on one side or the other by articulation around the axes (6 and 7).
These hinges can be used for example for connecting the leaves of a protective screen or a partition, or for many other applications.

Description

  • The present invention relates to hinges for the articulation of panels, leaves, or the like. More precisely, it relates to hinges of this kind in which an elastic mechanism is provided ensuring the maintenance of the corresponding panel or leaf in a determined position, while allowing it to pivot, in one direction or the other, by simple push exerted on this one.
  • Such hinges are used in particular for mounting hinged doors in place, or even for mounting mobile shower screens. However, hinges of this kind are designed only to allow the articulation of a movable panel on a fixed support.
  • This is why, the subject of the present invention is a hinge, also provided with an elastic immobilization mechanism, but which is designed to allow the articulation of two panels or the like, relative to one another, and this on either side of their immobilized position in the extension of one another.
  • To this end, this hinge comprises two jaws capable of receiving the edges of the two panels to be joined, and it is characterized in that these jaws are articulated around two parallel axes carried by an intermediate piece forming a junction node and each jaw comprises a movable immobilization member subjected to the action of elastic means, such as one or more springs, and which is arranged opposite a receiving seat, provided on the corresponding end of the junction node, and forming a cam , so that the corresponding panel is elastically immobilized in a determined position, for example in the plane of the two axes carried by the junction node, but that beyond a certain angle, for example ± 20 ° , it there is no longer a restoring force tending to recall this panel in this position.
  • According to another characteristic of the present hinge, the intermediate junction node consists of a part whose section, in a plane perpendicular to the two axes carried by this node, has an oblong outline, the seats for receiving the immobilization members of the two articulated jaws consisting of two grooves of curved profile formed on both ends of this part.
  • However, other features and advantages of the hinge according to the invention will appear during the following description of an exemplary embodiment thereof. This description is given with reference to the attached drawing, for information only, and in which:
    • Figure 1 is a perspective view of such a hinge;
    • Figure 2 is a top plan view;
    • Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view along line III-III of Figure 2;
    • Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view along line IV-IV of Figure 3, the two jaws of this hinge then being in the extension of one another;
    • Figure 5 is a similar view in which the two jaws of the hinge are shown after pivoting of one and the other relative to the intermediate junction node;
    • FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the internal face of one of the plates constituting each of the jaws of this hinge;
    • FIG. 7 represents an alternative embodiment of the intermediate junction node, seen in horizontal section
    • FIG. 8 is a diagram illustrating the use of hinges according to the invention for producing a protective screen around a shower, the leaves of this screen being shown in the position of use
    • Figure 9 is a similar view showing the same screen after folding its leaves against each other;
    • Figures 10 and 11 are diagrams similar to those of Figures 8 and 9, but which illustrate an example of the use of hinges according to the invention for producing a protective screen around a bathtub.
  • The hinge shown in Figures 1 to 5 comprises two jaws 1 and 2 adapted to receive the edges of two panels to be joined, for example the edges of two leaves 3 and 4 forming part of a shower screen or the like. These two jaws are articulated on an intermediate piece 5 forming a junction node, and this around two parallel axes 6 and 7 carried by this piece.
  • Each jaw 1 or 2 is constituted by two metal plates 8 and 9 able to clamp between them the edge of the corresponding leaf 3 or 4. One of the plates of each jaw, in this case the plate 8, has on its internal face a protrusion 10 intended to serve as housing for the various members of an elastic immobilization mechanism provided in the corresponding jaw. The thickness of this protuberance is equal to, or very slightly less than, that of leaves 3 and 4.
  • The two plates 8 and 9 of each jaw are joined together by assembly screws 11 passing through each plate 9 and which are screwed into threaded barrels 12 provided on the internal face of each plate 8. Consequently, the edges of the corresponding leaves 3 and 4 must include a cut-out reserving the location of the assembly screws 11 and of the respective protuberance 10. The outline of these cut-outs is indicated in FIG. 3 by the two lines 13 in dashed lines.
  • As can be seen from the drawings, the junction node 5 is constituted by a part whose section, in a plane perpendicular to the two axes 6 and 7, has an oblong outline. Both ends of this part are engaged in notches 14 formed in the plates of the two jaws 1 and 2.
  • The elastic immobilization mechanism provided in each of these comprises a roller 15 mounted movably inside a housing 16 formed in the protrusion 10 of the corresponding plate 8. This roller carries an axis 17 on the ends of which s 'support two pressure springs 18. This roller 15 is thus kept resiliently engaged inside a groove 19 formed in the corresponding end of the junction node 5, and this when the corresponding jaw is in the plane formed by the two axes 6 and 7 (see Figures 3 and 4).
  • The two immobilization mechanisms provided therefore ensure the immobilization of the two jaws 1 and 2, in the extension of one another, as shown in FIG. 4, and consequently the immobilization of the two leaves 3 and 4 in the same position. However, under the effect of a slight thrust exerted in one direction or the other, on one or other of these leaves, the corresponding leaf can be articulated on the intermediate junction node 5, the roller 15 of the immobilization mechanism provided in the jaw carried by this leaf then being pushed out of the corresponding groove 19 forming a seat for this roller. From the moment it is released from its seat, there is no longer an elastic restoring force tending to return the corresponding leaf to its immobilized position. The profile of the grooves 19 may be such that there is however a return torque for an angle (of approximately ± 20 ° ), on either side of the central immobilization position.
  • Under these conditions, the present hinge allows a very large latitude of pivoting of the two leaves 3 and 4, one relative to the other. Thus, as shown in FIG. 5, these two leaves can be placed parallel to one another in positions 3a and 4a on one of the sides of the junction node 5. However, they can also be placed from the same way in a symmetrically opposite position. Indeed, each of them can rotate 180 ° relative to the junction node 5, which corresponds in a way to a freedom of pivoting of 360 ° of the assembly.
  • This has significant advantages in many use cases. Thus, as shown in the diagrams of FIGS. 8 and 9, it is possible to produce a protective screen around the receiving tank 20 of a shower. Such a screen can then be constituted by three leaves 21, 22 and 23 articulated one after the other, by means of two hinges 24 and 25 according to the invention, the first leaf 21 hinging to the wall by means of a conventional hinge 26. Thus, the leaves of this screen can be arranged, either in their deployed position of use shown in FIG. 8, or in a zigzag folded position against the wall, the latter being shown in the Figure 9. However, it would not be possible to carry out such a zig-zag folding with hinges of the conventional type.
  • Figures 10 and 11 show another embodiment of the hinges according to the invention to form a protective screen around a bath 20a. The corresponding screen consists of four leaves 27, 28, 29 and 30 connected one after the other by three hinges according to the invention 31, 32 and 33. As in the previous case, the first leaf 27 is articulated on the wall by means of a conventional hinge 26. In such a case, the leaves can be folded up in the form shown in FIG. 11, that is to say in an extremely compact form.
  • However, these are only simple examples among the very numerous applications which may be envisaged for the hinge according to the invention. Indeed, it can be used in all cases where it is advisable to articulate one on the other two panels or leaves, while ensuring their elastic immobilization in a determined position. Thus, the hinges according to the invention can be used to join the various leaves of a retractable partition or a screen.
  • Furthermore, the hinge according to the invention is not limited to the single embodiment described above. In this regard, it should be noted that the profile of the seats 19 of the immobilizing rollers 15 can be modified according to the cases and applications.
  • On the other hand, in addition to the two grooves 19 determining an immobilization of the two jaws 1 and 2 in the same XY plane, the intermediate junction node can include other similar grooves determining additional immobilization positions in other orientations . Thus, FIG. 7 represents a variant in which the corresponding junction node 5a comprises two pairs of grooves additional 19a and 19b determining the immobilization positions of the jaws 1 and 2 at 90 ° relative to the plane XY. This variant is therefore particularly advantageous in the case of the examples of use shown in FIGS. 8 and 10 as well as in many other cases.

Claims (5)

1 - Hinge for the connection of articulated panels, or the like, comprising two jaws capable of receiving the edges of the two panels to be joined, and which articulate with respect to each other, characterized in that these jaws (1 , 2) are articulated around two parallel axes (6.7) carried by an intermediate piece (5) forming a junction node and each jaw comprises a movable immobilizing member subjected to the action of elastic means, such as one or several springs, and which is arranged opposite a receiving seat (19), provided on the corresponding end of the junction node, and forming a cam, so that the corresponding panel is resiliently immobilized in a determined position, for example in the plane of two axes carried by the junction node, but that beyond a certain angle, for example ± 20 °, there is no longer any restoring force tending to recall this panel in this position .
2 - Hinge according to claim 1, characterized in that the intermediate junction node is constituted by a part (5) whose section, along a plane perpendicular to the two axes (6,7) carried by this node, has an oblong outline , the seats for receiving the immobilizing members of the two articulated jaws - (1,2) consisting of two grooves (19) of curved profile formed on one and the other ends of this part.
3 -Camière according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the immobilizing member of each articulated jaw (1,2) consists of a roller (15) carrying an axis (17), parallel to the axes of articulation (6,7) provided on the junction node (5), and against the ends of which two pressure springs (18) are supported.
4 -Camière according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each articulated jaw (1,2) is constituted by two plates (8 and 9) joined in a removable manner by assembly screws (11), and of which l 'a door, on its internal face, a protuberance (10) serving as a housing for the immobilizing member of the corresponding jaw and the elastic means acting on this member.
5 -Cutter according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that in addition to two grooves (19) determining an immobilization of the jaws (1, 2) in the plane of the two axes carried by the junction node (5), this node includes other similar grooves determining additional immobilization positions in different orientations, for example two groups of grooves (19a and 19b) determining immobilization positions at right angles to the plane mentioned above.
