Diese hydraulische Vortriebsweise in einem offenen Graben mit natürlichem Böschungswinkel hat sich dort bewährt, wo ein genügend breiter Raum für den im Querschnitt V-förmigen Graben zur Verfügung steht. Um einen Vortrieb auch bei schmalen Bauflächenbreiten zu ermöglichen, ist aus der DE-P 33 14 813 bekannt, die Breite des mit lotrechten Verbautafeln ausgerüsteten Grabens gleich oder kleiner als den Außendurchmesser der Betonrohre zu gestalten, wobei die Verbautafeln auf jeder Grabenseite bei einer dem Außendurchmesser entsprechenden Breite des Grabens eine bis zu den Seitenlinien der Betonrohre reichende, oder bei einer geringeren Breite des Grabens eine bis knapp über die Betonrohre reichende Bautiefe erhalten. Bei dieser offenen Bauweise bildet sich vor dem Schneidkopf eine Endböschung, deren Böschungswinkel etwa an der unteren Stelle des Schneidkopfes ansetzt. Beim Vortrieb schneidet der Schneidkopf auch die Endböschung an.
