Die Salzvorratskammer ist neben dem Ionenaustauscher in der Maschine unterhalb des Speicherbehälters angeordnet, so daß bei über das Programmschaltwerk geöffnetem Absperrventil die Salzvorratskammer ausschließlich mit bevorratetem Wasser unter Schwerkraftwirkung aus dem Speicherbehälter gespeist wird. Zur Anpassung der zum Regenerieren der lonenaustauschermasse erforderlichen Solemenge an die Härte des Frischwassers am Aufstellort der Geschirrspülmaschine ist dem mehrkammrigen Speicherbehälter ein Wasserhärteschalter (DE-OS 33 02 566) zugeordnet.
