Description

The invention relates to a time clock with a dial, an object casting a shadow with this in connection with the display and a variable light source above the dial, by means of which this object can be illuminated from different directions, so that its shadow on the dial indicates the respective time, wherein the variable light source consists of the type of individual elements that can be controlled by a circuit arrangement, that at each point in time a light cone is thrown from the shadow-casting object onto the clock face for hourly indication, and the first circle above and concentric to a second circle with the time segments the dial.

In a known such clock (US-A-4 034 549), the variable light source above the dial consists of twelve individual lights arranged on a first circle, which are connected to the dial by means of arms. The shadow object is a flag that rotates around an axis that protrudes vertically from the center of the dial. Simultaneously with this rotation, the individual lights are gradually switched on for one hour at a time. As a result, there is a shadow cast on the dial which allows the hours and also subdivisions of these hours to be read from the time markings arranged on the second circle on the dial (US Pat. No. 4,034,549). The disadvantage is that the clock face of this clock, even if it were large enough - which it is not - is not accessible. The arms between the dial and the individual lights, but also the rotating axis with the flag in the center, do not allow the dial to be walked on. In addition, an exact display of the minutes cannot be achieved with this timer.

In contrast, the present invention has for its object to improve a clock of the type specified so that the dial is accessible and that it is also possible to read the minutes more accurately than before.

This object is achieved by the features characterized in the independent claims 1 and 2.

The first embodiment according to claim 1 is characterized in that a free passage is provided between the first circle with the individual elements and the second circle with the time segments, that in addition a second light cone is thrown by the individual lights for minute indication, and that the shadow-casting object is arranged in alignment with a location in the center of the clock face regardless of the circuit arrangement.

Special embodiments of this timer can be found in claims 3 to 8.

It is essential that the individual parts of the time clock can be installed in rooms or outside of rooms in such a way that many new unexpected ways of displaying time are opened up. In addition to a pen, a stick or a figure, an interchangeable figure, in particular a person, can also be used as the shadow-casting object. Such a form of training is suitable, for example, for halls or passageways. A person can stand up at a conspicuously marked point in the ground and thus serve as a shadow-casting object for displaying the time. In the simplest case, it can produce an hour display.

In another embodiment, the shadowing objects are suitable, e.g. the person also for marking both an hour and a minute.

Another embodiment of the invention is characterized in claims 2 and 9. This embodiment is also suitable for installation outside of rooms and is able to mark the time during the dark. The lights do not need to be constantly on. It is entirely within the scope of the invention in both exemplary embodiments if the lights are switched on when necessary.

Both exemplary embodiments work together with a circuit arrangement which includes at least one shift register which switches at the clock rate and to whose outputs the individual lights are connected.

In a further development of the invention, the circuit arrangement can include both a minute shift register and an hour shift register, which depend on each other in terms of circuitry in a known electronic manner.

Driver circuits for the individual lights are generally provided between the individual lights and the outputs of the shift registers. The circuit arrangement can be designed in such a way that individual lamps are used both for the minute display and for the hour display and for corresponding shadows on the clock face.

In order to avoid, above all, a large number of individual lights designed as spotlights and a correspondingly complex circuit arrangement, a spotlight can also be used in each case which is directed towards the object casting shadows. In the simplest case, this spotlight luminaire sits on an annular arrangement which is moved in time and which throws the spotlight luminaire around the shadow Object around. The shadow falls again on the time displays on the clock face.

In a modification of this exemplary embodiment, an hour lamp can be arranged on a second circle, for example according to claim 16, which is switched on at certain time intervals, so that this results in a shadow cast which indicates the respective hour.

The movement of the hour or minute spot lights along an hour or minute circle can be done in a simple manner using a clockwork by which the holders for the spot lights are moved along the corresponding hour or minute circles.

A further design possibility arises in accordance with claims 17 and 18. Here, at least one spot lamp is pivotally arranged in the center of a first circle and directed at mirrors which are arranged along the first circle. The pivoting of this spotlight again takes place with the participation of a clockwork. The mirrors are directed at the object casting a shadow, for example at the bottom of an arm, so that the shadow marking moves along the clock display along a time display arranged on a clock face.

In this exemplary embodiment, too, two pivotable spotlights can be provided, in order thereby to accomplish both the minutes and the hour display.

In all of the exemplary embodiments, the dials of the time clocks can be walked on and a better minute display is guaranteed than before.

The exemplary embodiments are explained in detail below with reference to the drawing.

A dial 40 is arranged on a floor 54 of a room (not shown), which is shown in plan view in FIG. 2. In the center 45 of this dial 40 there is a location 44 on which there is an object casting a shadow, in the exemplary embodiment shown a figure 33 or an exchangeable figure 34.

A light source, generally designated 10, can be seen in a surface above the floor 54 or in a ceiling 53, which in the exemplary embodiment shown consists of spotlights 12, as shown in FIG. 2, which are arranged along a first circle 13. In the illustrated embodiment, a total of sixty spotlights 12 are arranged, which, as can be seen from the cross section according to FIG. 1, are all directed towards the shadow 50, in this case FIGS. 33 and 34, respectively. A switched on spot lamp 12a generates a light cone 48 and behind the figure 33, 34 a shadow 50.

Depending on the spotlights used and the size of the clock 1, the distance between the ceiling 53 and the floor 54 can also be formed. The spotlights 12 are all aligned so that they illuminate the figures 33, 34 and thereby generate a shadow 50.

The spotlights 12 are switched on in a manner to be explained later, so that the shadow 50 (FIG. 3) jumps by one minute, for example every minute.

Durch den Schattenwurf wird eine Schattenmarkierung 46 ausgebildet, die, wie dieses die Fig. 3 erkennen läßt, entsprechend einem "großen" Zeiger einer Uhr die Minuten anzeigt.FIG. 2 indicates that two individual radiators 12a can also be switched on, so that, according to FIG. 3, a shadow 50 for an hour hand and also a shadow 50 for a minute hand are formed. The shadow cast forms a shadow marking 46 which, as can be seen in FIG. 3, indicates the minutes in accordance with a "large" hand of a clock.

The smaller pointer shown on the right in FIG. 3 serves, analogously to a conventional pointer clock, to display the hours.

Along a so-called second circle 41 on the dial 40, the hour displays 42 and the minute displays 43 are provided analogously to any dial. The markings 46 of the "large" and "small" shadow pointers thus mark the respective time from the hour and minute displays 42 and 43, if by the circuit arrangement explained later the spotlight 12, 12a are switched on in time.

32 angeordnet. The shadow-casting object, for example a pin or a rod 31 or 32, is arranged in the center 45 of the second circle 41.

The figure 33, 34 shown in FIG. 1 can be arranged permanently on the installation site 44. Without changing anything at the core of the invention, however, an interchangeable figure 34 or as such a person can also be used. The switched on spot lights 12a can be used to illuminate the room. However, they can only be switched on if necessary. If, for example, the time clock according to FIG. 1 is arranged in a hall, a bank or in a passageway of a portal, a switch can be switched on in a special embodiment when entering this room, which switches on the spot lights 12a corresponding to the time. If this person, who has switched on these spotlights, then stands on the installation site 44, the corresponding shadow 50 will display the hour or the minute in accordance with FIG. 3.

Without changing anything at the core of the invention, the first circle 30 with the spotlights can also be provided in the floor or in a wall and the figure 33 can be arranged on the ceiling or on the opposite wall in the center of the dial also arranged there. The time can then be read on a wall or ceiling of a room.

In these exemplary embodiments, too, the spot lights 12a can be switched on continuously or can be actuated by a person only when necessary. Standard lamps can be used as spotlights. However, it has been found that ERCO 77221 or STAFF 710307 spotlights are used with advantage.

In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, a total of sixty spotlights are provided along the circumference of the first circle 13. One of these spotlights 12 marks the hour. Additional lights can also be used to mark a quarter and a half hours.

It goes without saying that only one embodiment of a dial is indicated in FIG. 3. There are no limits to the imagination when designing the dial. In particular, the dial 40, when it is used on the floor 54 of a room, can also be surrounded by mosaic ornaments or similar decorative accessories in order to emphasize the dial in an artistically and aesthetically sufficient manner from the surroundings.

Above the center, for example in a ceiling 53, two pivotable spot lights, namely a pivotable minute spot light 15 and an equally pivotable hour spot light 16 are provided, which generate 25 light cones 48 via the mirrors arranged along the first circle 13, which cast the shadow 50 Object are directed. The pivotable spotlights 15, 16 are pivoted, for example controlled by a clockwork, every minute. The respectively illuminated mirror 25, of which sixty are likewise arranged along the first circle 13, reflects the light as a light cone 48 in the direction of the shadow-casting object 31, 32 and generates a shadow 50, through which the markings 46 according to FIG. 3 are used to indicate of time.

In a further exemplary embodiment of a time clock shown in FIG. 5, an hour lamp 19 and a minute lamp 20 can be guided along an hourly circular path 18 or a minute circular path 17. The switched on spotlights are directed to a figure 33 and throw on the only indicated dial 40 light markings 46 for time indication.

In Fig. 7 und in den Draufsichten gemäß Fig. 8 und 9 ist das Ausführungsbeispiel nach Anspruch 2, nämlich die Zeituhr 3, dargestellt.7 and in the top views according to FIGS. 8 and 9, the embodiment according to claim 2, namely the time clock 3, is shown.

A wall 35, which is illuminated by spotlights 12, is used as the object casting shadows. The spotlight 12a according to FIG. 7 generates a shadow 50, which is also indicated in FIG. 9. This shadow cast creates a marking 46 shown in FIG. 9, which indicates the hour 6, for example.

In a preferred embodiment, at least twelve individual lights 12 are used as light source 10. They are arranged in a plane 65 standing vertically on a linear dial 61 and staggered in a row. Under certain circumstances, individual spotlights 12 can also sit on a slightly curved holder 64.

Hour indications 62 and possibly minute indications 63 are arranged on the linear dial 61.

The spot lights 12 are actuated by the circuit arrangement explained in detail below in a manner analogous to the spot lights 12, 12a in the previously described exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 1 to 5. In the top view according to FIG. 8, it is indicated that the beam of a switched-on spot lamp 12a can also generate a light cone 48, which contributes to illuminating the room in which the timer 3 is set up.

Zur Beleuchtung des Raumes dient der Lichtkegel 48.9, the shadow cast 50 is more like a drop shadow. The light cone 48 serves to illuminate the room.

Hiermit wird das Minutenschieberegister 70 gesteuert.FIG. 6 schematically shows a circuit arrangement 68 with which the spotlights 12, 12a can be switched in time. The circuit arrangement includes an hour register 69 and a minute register 70. The minute shift register 70 is connected to a second frequency divider 76 via a first switch 80, whereas the hour shift register 69 is connected to a frequency divider 75 via a second switch 81. Both frequency dividers 75 and 76 are operated by an oscillator 74. In one embodiment, oscillator 74 is a crystal controlled oscillator with a frequency of 4.194302 MHz. This frequency is reduced in the first frequency divider 75 to a frequency of 2 Hz. The second frequency divider 76 then further reduces the frequency in a 1:60 ratio. This controls the minute shift register 70.

The lamp lights 12 are connected to the outputs 71 and 72 of the shift registers 69 and 70 via driver circuits 73. The slide registers and the frequency dividers 75 and 76 and the oscillator 74 are operated via a mains connection 77 and a start logic 78. An indicator lamp 79 indicates that the circuit arrangement 68 is in operation. It is advantageous if the driver circuits 73 are connected both to the outputs 71 of the hour shift register 69 and also to the outputs 72 of the minute shift register 70. By means of an AND / OR circuit 82 which is connected to the outputs 6, 18, 30, 42 and 54 of the minute shift register 70, the second changeover switch 81 can be actuated in such a way that in accordance with the minute markings for the minutes 6, 18, 30, 42 and 54 the spotlights representing the hour markers are switched on.

The spotlights 12, 12a in the time clock according to the exemplary embodiment according to claim 2 according to FIGS. 7, 8 and 9 can also be switched in an analogous manner.
